5 June 2026 at 22:45

A medieval battlefield scene from the game 'Chronicles: Medieval' shows knights on horseback engaging in combat, with a prominent yellow banner in the background.

Exactly one year ago, independent Danish developer Raw Power Games announced its debut game, Chronicles: Medieval, a dynamic medieval sandbox RPG highly reminiscent of the Mount and Blade series. Today, at Summer Game Fest 2026, the studio made of around 100 industry veterans (with credits in The Witcher 3, Assassin’s Creed, Hitman, Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, and Grand Theft Auto) shared a new gameplay trailer and confirmed that PC early access is debuting this year via Steam. Ahead of the news, Wccftech was invited to a remote presentation where Raw Power Games revealed much more about their upcoming […]

Crate Entertainment Opens Up on Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn’s Massive Scope, Long Development, and What Comes Next

4 June 2026 at 19:00

A character holding a spear stands alongside a white wolf with glowing eyes in a snowy mountain landscape, featured in 'Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn'.

Last week, independent developer Crate Entertainment finally set a concrete launch date for Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn (the third and final expansion for the hack-and-slash action RPG): July 23 for PC via Steam, GOG, and Humble Store. The previous expansion, Forgotten Gods, was released in March 2019. In the meantime, the small studio released a fairly successful city builder, Farthest Frontier, and began working on new projects. Even so, they went back to Grim Dawn, a game that sold over 10 million units between the base game and the expansions. In an email interview with Crate Entertainment Production Director […]

29 May 2026 at 16:00

A display at the XP Game Summit featuring a colorful abstract artwork and signage with 'XP 26 GAME SUMMIT' in a room labeled 'KING I' at the Toronto 2026 event.

"The mission of XP Gaming is to connect the video game industry," said Jason Lepine, founder of XP Gaming, in his opening remarks to kick off the conference in Toronto XP Game Summit 2026 on May 21, 2026. The summit celebrates its fifth year running with the 2026 event, seemingly well on its way to achieving its mission with over 700 attendees at this year's Toronto event, but it's not focused on just one annual event in one major city. The Toronto conference is one of four events, as Lepine has a clear vision for what the future of B2B […]

Edge of Memories Soundtrack Interview: Dynamic Combat, Iconic RPG Collaborations, and Why AI Can’t Replace the Soul

29 May 2026 at 12:30

A character in Edge of Memories rides on a large white creature through a lush, colorful landscape in the game Blue Protocol.

Edge of Memories is the second entry in the series by French developer Midgar Studio, which began with Edge of Eternity back in 2018 with its Early Access release. Doing away with turn-based combat, the new entry in the series will be an action RPG heavily inspired by the Mana series, sporting a colorful cast of characters and a setting that seems ripe for adventure. While we wait for the Edge of Memories release date announcement, we sat down with the musical minds behind the game: main composer Cédric Menendez, celebrated arranger and composer Mariam Abounnasr (Xenoblade Chronicles), and legendary […]

Bethesda Explains How Fallout 76: Infestations Will Make the Map Sizzle With Emergent Co-Op Chaos: ‘Appalachia Is Our Biggest Asset’

28 May 2026 at 19:00

Colorful poster for 'Fallout 76: Infestations' featuring a Vault Boy character giving a thumbs-up amidst cartoon-style wasteland creatures and robots.

Ahead of the imminent Fallout 76: Infestations update (currently on the Public Test Server and due for a full launch on Thursday, June 2), Bethesda Game Studios invited press and content creators to a media presentation where they outlined the patch's main features and changes. The titular Infestations is an entirely new dynamic activity designed to make Appalachia feel active again by overrunning locations with faction bosses and their mobs across 40 possible locations across the Toxic Valley, Forest, Ash Heap, Savage Divide, Mire, and Cranberry Bog regions. Unlike other activities, Infestations are organic discoveries, as they are not pre-marked on the […]

Edge of Memories Composer Believes AI Is Useful Tool, But Slams It For Generating Art: “Art Cannot Exist Without Humanity”

27 May 2026 at 14:45

A character from the game 'Edge of Memories' stands in a vibrant landscape with a sword in hand and an armored claw, against a backdrop of colorful skies and flowers.

The widespread adoption of AI is having a massive impact on society, but those bearing the brunt of it are artists whose original works are being replaced by the derivative, average products of generative AI. While most of the industry's attention has focused on how generative AI impacts visual artists, video game composers, and musicians are wrongly overlooked. With the rise of AI bands that are almost indistinguishable from the real thing to an untrained ear, there is a very real possibility that video game soundtracks will become derivative, losing the distinct magic that defines the entire gaming experience. For […]

21 May 2026 at 18:00

Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced stands on a pirate ship, holding two pistols against a backdrop of the ocean and islands.

At the recent Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced hands-on event organized by Ubisoft in San Francisco, California, Wccftech had the opportunity to interview Richard Knight, the Game Director of this highly anticipated remake. Knight, whose Ubisoft Singapore credits include Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Mirage, and Skull and Bones, said the goal was to focus the remake on Edward Kenway’s story and adventure. That meant modern technical upgrades, a more seamless open world, and a handful of new gameplay additions, while trimming elements such as multiplayer and the original game's modern-day stuff. The result, he said, is meant to feel like a […]

15 May 2026 at 19:00

An animated scene features Neverness to Everness characters in a red convertible car in a cityscape, with the text '04/29 Official Launch' and 'Supernatural Urban Open World RPG' prominently displayed.

Hotta Studio, a subsidiary of Perfect World Games previously known for 2022's Tower of Fantasy, has an ambitious roadmap in mind for Neverness to Everness, and the team isn't treating the recent launch on PC, PS5, Android, and iOS as the finish line. Set in the supernatural metropolis of Hethereau, the urban open world RPG powered by Unreal Engine 5 and enhanced with path tracing on PC is built around a simple but unusually broad fantasy: live in the city, explore its anomalies, fight when you need to, and fill the gaps between major story beats with the kind of […]

Mundfish Admits It Would Do Things Differently After Atomic Heart, as Lessons Reshape Atomic Heart 2 and The Cube MMO

1 May 2026 at 16:30

A promotional image for the 'Atomic Heart: Blood on Crystal' DLC#4 shows a character holding a weapon with a robotic figure and a red crystalline creature in the background.

A few weeks ago, Mundfish released Blood and Crystal, the fourth and final DLC for its debut game, the single player first-person shooter Atomic Heart. The game was very successful (it surpassed 10 million users about a year ago) and opened up a whole franchise, with an MMORPG spin-off titled The Cube and a full-fledged sequel with a much bigger world and an expanded RPG layer, as we discovered in our previous interview with Mundfish founder and CEO Robert Bagratuni. Today, we have a fresh Q&A to publish. This time, it's focused on Blood and Crystal, the significance of Atomic […]

Directive 8020 Leans Hard Into The Thing — Supermassive Promises Eyes, Teeth and Bones in Deep Space Body Horror

29 April 2026 at 16:30

The image features a character in a space suit from 'DIRECTIVE 8020 A Dark Pictures Game' with branding from Supermassive Games.

British developer Supermassive Games is about to launch Directive 8020, the fifth mainline game in its The Dark Pictures Anthology horror game series, following Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and The Devil in Me (there was also the PS VR2 exclusive Switchback). Directive 8020 is special within the franchise for at least two reasons: it's the first entry to drop the anthology name "The Dark Pictures" from the title, and it's also the first one to take place in a sci-fi setting. Set in the near future, the game follows the five-person crew of the Cassiopeia, a colony reconnaissance […]

MotoGP 26 Rebuilds Its Core Handling From the Ground Up, Says Dev, Forcing Veterans to Rethink Every Corner

27 April 2026 at 16:00

Three MotoGP riders in racing gear stand with their motorcycles on a track, under the 'MotoGP 26' logo.

Later this week, MotoGP 26 will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. According to Italian developer Milestone, this year's entry represents the most significant overhaul of the franchise's core in years. The headline change, the new Rider-Based Handling system, flips the fundamental control philosophy on its head: where previous games mapped player input directly to the bike, MotoGP 26 routes it through the rider's body first, shifting weight before the bike responds. It is a subtle but far-reaching change that touches animations, physics feel, and how veterans will need to approach […]

21 April 2026 at 18:30

About midway through the review period for Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred, Blizzard organized a roundtable Q&A with a few key developers from the team: Game Director Zaven Haroutunian, Production Director Barry Morales, Lead System Designer Colin Finer, and Senior Composer Ted Reedy. The team answered questions on various topics, from the narrative and setting to world design and the music score, new gameplay systems like War Plans and the Horadric Cube, and an overall assessment of the game's state ahead of its second expansion's upcoming launch. You can find the full transcript below. As a reminder, Diablo IV: Lord […]

Wolfjaw CEO on Live Service Craze: “Publishers Saw Fortnite, PUBG & LoL and Decided They Needed 50 of Each”

14 April 2026 at 19:00

The image features promotional artwork for 'PUBG Battlegrounds,' 'Fortnite,' and 'League of Legends' with distinct characters and logos, named in an interview by Wolfjaw CEO Mitchell Patterson.

Today's exclusive interview is a bit different from the usual because it is focused on a company called Wolfjaw Studios that is probably unknown to most gamers but still powers many of the most played online games, including the likes of NBA 2K, WWE 2K, Destiny 2, Marathon, Among Us, and Magic: The Gathering Arena. Founded in 2019 by Mitchell Patterson (following a conversation at TwitchCon 2018), Wolfjaw was built from scratch around a single, focused ambition: to establish backend development as a distinct, mission-critical discipline within game development, rather than an afterthought bolted on after the "real" work was […]

Digital Extremes on Warframe Switch 2: DLSS Was “Very Important”, Renders as Low as 540p to Reach 60 FPS

9 April 2026 at 16:00

The image shows a promotional banner for the game Warframe with the text 'Available on Nintendo Switch 2' alongside futuristic characters in action poses against a space backdrop.

In late March, Digital Extremes released a version of Warframe natively optimized for the Nintendo Switch 2 console. The studio hailed it as a major improvement over the Switch version, not to mention a significant milestone: it meant the long-running free-to-play action game is now available on all the major gaming platforms. The Android version had launched in February, and the game was already available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and iOS. Wccftech sent a few questions to Digital Extremes about the development of the Nintendo Switch 2 version and its features, such as […]

Samson Dev: DLSS 5 Needs Full Pipeline Integration & Broad Hardware Support to Be Viable

8 April 2026 at 18:30

A side-by-side NVIDIA DLSS 5 comparison of a character in 'Resident Evil Requiem' with 'DLSS 5 Off' on the left and 'DLSS 5 On' on the right, showing enhanced visual clarity and detail.

Following the controversial reveal of NVIDIA DLSS 5 at GTC 2026, we have heard all sorts of reactions from both sides of the argument. However, in most cases, they were heavily skewed towards one side, either embracing or condemning the technology. Nobody really delved too much into what it would really take to make it viable from a game developer's standpoint. We've continued to reach out to various studios to gather their perspectives on this oft-neglected part of the DLSS 5 discourse. Today, on the release date of their debut game (Samson: A Tyndalston Story, of which you can read […]

WoodRunner Games Looks to Balance Classic and Modern Platforming With Precision Platformer Croak, a.k.a ‘Frog Celeste’

3 April 2026 at 18:30

An illustration of a crowned frog wearing a cape with the title 'CROAK' on a regal, ornate background.

Platformers are one of the oldest genres in video games. If you consider the beginning of the modern age of video games to coincide with the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System and the first Super Mario Bros., then platformers are quite literally where it all began. But even in such an old genre that has been plundered time and again, there are still developers finding new mechanics, frameworks, and packaging to deliver fresh experiences to players, and that's exactly what WoodRunner Games wants to do with Croak. WoodRunner Games is a small indie studio based out of Montreal, Canada, […]
