No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 launch delayed

2 September 2026 at 11:22

We are just two months removed from the announcement that No Rest for the Wicked would reach V1.0 this year and end its period of early access development. Since then, plans have changed, with the game being delayed another six months.

Despite only just announcing an October launch date in June, Moon Studios has since decided that it needs more time to finish up its new Action RPG. As a result, No Rest for the Wicked will now be launching in March 2027.

In its announcement post, Moon Studios said: “The honest truth is that we're a small team, and we're holding our games to a standard we won't compromise on. We're close, but close isn't good enough for our full 1.0 launch. The extra time will help us improve performance, tighten the class system, and polish the whole game to the standard you all deserve. We'd rather take a few more months than ship something that we know isn’t quite perfect yet.”

Fans won't have to wait until 2027 to get a preview of what's to come though. There will be a big open beta test happening in December, giving anyone interested a chance to try the game out. This delay also means that people have a few more months to pre-order and still obtain Founders pack rewards.

KitGuru Says: I've been waiting on this one to leave early access for a long time now. A few extra months won't hurt, although it is always disappointing to see games delayed within weeks of their release date announcement.

Moon Studios CEO Admits No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Isn’t Ready, Slipping the Early Access Exit into March 2027

1 September 2026 at 16:00

A promotional image for the game 'No Rest for the Wicked' shows the release update text '1.0 is moving to March 2027' with a fiery background and a figure standing on a pile.

Today, Austrian developer Moon Studios announced a delay for the 1.0 launch of No Rest for the Wicked. The game, as you'll recall, was supposed to launch out of early access next month; however, the studio has now pushed it to March 2027. In a video message, Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler explained why: First of all, let me apologize for that. I know a lot of you have already been eagerly waiting to play Wicked in just a couple months from now. The truth is, we have shipped No Rest for the Wicked Together earlier this year, and since […]

Moon Studios head says “Ori 3 rumors are nonsense”

24 August 2026 at 15:30

A rumour circulated over the weekend claiming that Microsoft had quietly greenlit a sequel to Ori and the Will of the Wisps, with development supposedly handed to another studio. However, Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler has now dismissed the speculation, stating that “the Ori 3 rumors are nonsense”.

The rumour originated on Resetera, where a poster suggested that Microsoft was moving ahead with a new Ori title without Moon Studios’ involvement, allegedly partnering with Saber Interactive for development. However, the source of this rumour has little established track record, so it is unclear how the rumour ended up gaining as much traction as it did.

Mahler addressed the rumour directly on X, writing that “the Ori 3 rumors are nonsense” and adding that even Gareth Coker, composer for the first two Ori games, had not heard anything about a sequel being developed. Mahler also replied to a fan, saying Moon Studios would “do it in a heartbeat” if Microsoft gave them the go‑ahead for a third Ori game.

For now, Moon Studios remains focused on No Rest for the Wicked, its action RPG currently in Early Access. The game is scheduled to reach version 1.0 in October on PC and PS5, with other console platforms to follow. During its time in Early Access, No Rest for the Wicked has sold over 2 million copies.

KitGuru Says: I really loved the Ori games, so I think it would be great to see a third one. For now though, it doesn't sound like it will be happening anytime soon.

Moon Studios’ Thomas Mahler Draws a Clear Line on AI: Use It for Repetitive Tasks, But Not for Art/Storytelling

2 July 2026 at 21:30

The image shows two game covers: Ori The Collection featuring an animated character holding a glowing figure in a colorful forest, and No Rest for the Wicked depicting a fiery scene with a sword and an ominous, coiled dragon, both from Moon Studios, whose CEO now spoke about their AI stance.

The debate over AI use in game development has raged across the industry over the past year or so, with some developers swearing they'd never touch it, others openly embracing it, and quite a few placing themselves somewhere in the middle. Epic famously opened the gates to Claude, Gemini, and other LLMs with Unreal Engine 5.8 (and 6)'s MCP server, with a mixed reception from the development community. In our recent exclusive interview with Thomas Mahler, CEO of Moon Studios and Game Director on the Ori games and the upcoming No Rest for the Wicked, we asked him what kind […]

No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Interview: ‘We Ran the Baldur’s Gate 3 Playbook with Early Access’

29 June 2026 at 18:00

A dark, fantasy landscape with dragons flying and a silhouetted figure facing a large, ominous building, featuring the title text 'No Rest for the Wicked 1.0'.

Earlier this month, Ori developer Moon Studios announced the 1.0 launch date of No Rest for the Wicked, its isometric Soulslike fantasy action RPG. The Austrian studio's new project will exit early access in October on PC and PlayStation 5, while Nintendo and Xbox fans will have to wait longer, primarily due to ongoing optimization on the weaker Series S and Switch 2 consoles. Following the release news, we had the opportunity to interview Moon Studios CEO and Creative Director Thomas Mahler. Throughout the conversation, we delved into the aforementioned decision to postpone the game on Nintendo and Xbox consoles, […]

No Rest for the Wicked Won’t Arrive on Xbox Alongside the PS5 Thanks to the Series S “Making That Rough”

4 June 2026 at 14:20

Xbox Series S and Series X consoles alongside a game character with long hair and golden armor in a fantasy setting.

One of the many announcements that came out of PlayStation's State of Play event earlier this week was the reveal that No Rest for the Wicked, the action RPG from Ori developer Moon Studios, would launch out of early access this coming October 2026 and launch on PS5, but not Xbox Series X/S or Nintendo Switch 2. It's not uncommon to see Switch/Switch 2 versions of games arrive later, but what's the holdup for Xbox? Well, according to Moon Studios boss and creative director Thomas Mahler, the responsible party is the Xbox Series S. As spotted by VGC after the […]
