Hell is Us officially announced for the Nintendo Switch 2

11 May 2026 at 12:30

Officially released late last year, Hell is Us is a 3rd-person melee focused action-adventure title which arrived to high praise, marking it as one of publisher Nacon’s best-rated games of all time. While Nacon itself is currently going through some issues, the publisher has officially revealed that Hell is Us will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

During the recent Nacon Connect livestream, the game publisher officially announced that Rogue Factor’s much-loved Hell is Us will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the 24th of September – a little over one year from its home console / PC release.

For the uninitiated, Hell is Us is an atmospheric 3rd-person melee focused title which puts a great deal of emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving. Upon its release, the title was met with consistent and high praise from both critics and players alike (sitting at a review score of ‘Very Positive’ on Steam.)

While details on the port remain light so far, the trailer itself showed off 60fps gameplay, suggesting that the Switch 2 release will be relatively on par with its other versions.

For context, Hell is Us on PS5 includes both Quality and Performance modes targeting 30 and 60fps respectively (the latter of which uses FSR2 to upscale to 4K). While not yet confirmed, it is likely that the Switch 2 release will similarly offer two graphics options; possibly using the Switch’s bespoke DLSS for added clarity.

Regardless, Hell is Us is a unique experience worth giving a go. Hopefully all of the game’s atmospheric effects are kept in place. We will have to wait and see.

85% of PS5 game sales are digital as console nears 100 million units

11 May 2026 at 11:45

With each generation we’ve seen console players continue to adopt digital game purchases at an increasing rate. While not quite at the level of PC gaming yet, Sony’s PS5 has managed to shift the pendulum to near-complete digital dominance; with just 15% of recent sales being attributed to physical media.

As part of the company’s most recent fiscal earnings report, Sony revealed – collated by the publication PushSquare – that 85% of all game sales during the past Quarter (ending on the 31st of March 2026) were digital.

Of course, the PS5 represents the first home console from Sony to offer an SKU without a disc-drive, meaning a solid percentage of the total user base are all-in on digital gaming. Even so, 85% is a massive percentage and suggests that the PlayStation 6 will further embrace the digital space come its inevitable arrival.

PS5 Digital

In terms of overall console sales, the PS5 is continuing to truck along, with Sony confirming that it has pushed past 93.7 million units. This puts the console comfortably as the 8th best-selling system of all time – currently sitting behind the Nintendo Wii (101.63 million); the OG PlayStation (102.49 million) and Sony’s last-gen PS4 (currently at 117.2 million).

Given that the PS5 has continued to receive price increases more than half a decade on from its initial launch, it will be interesting to see whether Sony’s latest and greatest manages to surpass the PS4 when all is said and done.

Nintendo Switch 2 nears 20 million consoles sold in its first year

11 May 2026 at 11:00

After years of leaks, rumours and speculation, the Nintendo Switch 2 finally released in June of 2025 to strong sales from the get-go; owing to the console maker ensuring that they had plenty of stock ready for launch. With the ‘next-gen’ system nearing its 1 year anniversary on the market, Nintendo has revealed that Switch 2 is closing in on 20 million units sold.

Sharing updated sales stats as part of the company’s latest fiscal earning report, Nintendo officially confirmed that the Switch 2 has sold a total of 19.86 million units. It is worth noting that these numbers only go up to the 31st of March, and so the system has likely passed the 20 million mark by now.

As of right now, the Switch 2’s lifetime sales are nestled in between the Wii U (13.56 million) and the GameCube (21.74 million) – not bad for less than a year's worth of sales.

Switch 2 20 million

Perhaps more interestingly, Nintendo also shared updated sales figures for the OG Switch, revealing that it has sold a total of 155.92 million units. While a massive achievement in its totality, the Switch 1 only managed to push roughly half a million consoles during the past quarter.

Assuming this trajectory continues, then it is likely that Sony’s PlayStation 2 will remain the best-selling console of all time at 160 million units.

Leaker reveals half a dozen Nintendo Switch 2 titles currently in the works

11 May 2026 at 10:15

In an unexpected announcement last week, Nintendo officially unveiled Star Fox: A remake of the 1997 N64 classic coming to Switch 2 in just over a month’s time. While a surprise to many, the title was technically leaked prior to its official announcement. According to the same insider, half a dozen other secret titles are currently in the works, including a new 3D Mario game scheduled for 2027.

Prior to its official announcement by Nintendo, leaker malo932 shared a list of roughly half a dozen Switch 2 titles which were said to be in the works. One of these games was reportedly a ‘classic’ Star Fox title set to arrive in June.

With Nintendo now officially announcing the remake, it stands to reason that the remainder of the leaks are also true. Of course, the list should still be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, according to the insider Nintendo has at least half a dozen other games in the works:

  • A Star Fox Adventure game (sometime after 2026)
  • The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake (2026)
  • New Switch Sports game (Summer 2026)
  • New 3D Mario game (2027)
  • Wario Land revival (possibly 2027)
  • Super Metroid Remake (said to be “close” to announcement)

Nintendo 2027

A number of these leaked titles were also later shared by known insider NateTheHate, lending further credence to their existence.

Nintendo’s strategy for the Switch 2 so far has been somewhat unusual, with the console maker focusing heavily on releasing Switch 2 Editions of past titles. That said, assuming these leaks to be true, Nintendo could have a pretty big 2027 – especially with a new 3D Mario reportedly on its way.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this leaked line-up? What franchises would you like to see represented? Could a new 3D Mario arrive as early as next year? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Nintendo shares updated sales stats for all its Switch games

11 May 2026 at 09:30

The Nintendo Switch generation has been massive for the console maker, with many of their first-party titles easily selling in excess of 10 million copies. With the Switch 2 closing in on its 1 year anniversary, Nintendo has shared an updated list of its game sales – confirming that multiple titles are nearing major milestones.

As published to its IR Information page, Nintendo shared updated sales stats for all of its Switch generation games (up until the 31st of March 2026).

In terms of Switch 2 exclusives, there are already a number of big successes, with the most notable being Mario Kart World (currently at 14.7 million copies sold). It is worth stressing that World was offered as part of a launch console bundle and so its numbers are somewhat skewed.

The second best-selling Switch 2 exclusive meanwhile is Donkey Kong Bananza, which has so far sold a total of 4.52 million units. In terms of more recent releases, Pokemon Pokopia has managed to sell-through 4 million copies during its first 5 weeks.

Nintendo Switch 2

Of course, Nintendo has also released many different Switch 2 Editions of past games, helping to push these last-gen titles to new heights. Some of the biggest in this regard include:

  • Animal Crossing: New Horizons (49.91 million)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (33.84 million)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom  (22.56 million)
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree (9.96 million)

In case you missed it, Nintendo also shared updated sales stats for its consoles, confirming that the Switch 2 is closing in on 20 million units sold. Full details on the hardware breakdown can be found HERE.

Forza Forums celebrates its 20th anniversary by shutting down the site

11 May 2026 at 08:45

Prior to the rise of Reddit, Discord and the like, video game forums were a popular way for fans of a particular franchise to engage with their community; discussing past, present and future titles. One such site which has persisted for decades now is the ‘Forza Forums’. Unfortunately, while celebrating the platform’s 20th anniversary, the team officially confirmed that the Forza Forums will be shutting down next month.

Taking to the Forza Forums to make the announcement, the franchise’s Community Manager officially confirmed the unfortunate news, writing: “For the past two decades, the Forza Forums have provided a place for official game info, troubleshooting, shared tips between players, contests, and feedback from the Forza Community.”

They continued, “the Forums will continue to remain active through the launch of Forza Horizon 6 in May; on June 30, 2026, the Forums will be taken offline.”

Forza Forums Discord

While a disappointing conclusion, what is perhaps even more unfortunate is the fact that “we do not plan to archive or replace the Forums in their current form” – meaning 20 years of fan discourse will be wiped from the internet.

Of course, there are plenty of other avenues for fans to engage with the community, including the official Forza Discord server, Steam forums and Subreddit.

Still, this latest announcement comes as quite the disappointment, especially with Forza Horizon 6 right around the corner.

RGG Studio’s Stranger Than Heaven officially arrives some time “This Winter”

8 May 2026 at 11:30

First teased back during 2024’s The Game Awards, Ryu Ga Gotoku (RGG) studio – known best for their work on the Like a Dragon (Yakuza) series – unveiled Project Century: a brand new IP from the team. Since revealed to be officially titled ‘Stranger Than Heaven’ the team have now confirmed that this much-anticipated title will arrive some time “This Winter.”

Making the announcement as part of their recent ‘Xbox Presents: A Special Look at Stranger Than Heaven’ showcase, RGG Studio delved into a wide range of topics from the game’s plot to its combat; mini games and more.

Alongside a ton of new details, the team also offered a first proper release date of sorts: confirming that Stranger Than Heaven will officially arrive sometime “This Winter.”

While we unfortunately did not get a concrete date (meaning the title could arrive as late as March 2027), RGG Studio confirmed that when it does arrive it’ll be available day-one on Xbox Game Pass.

As mentioned, the team covered a ton of details including Stranger Than Heaven’s multiple locations; time periods; ties to Like a Dragon and more. The full 30-minute presentation can be found HERE.

The Epic Games Store will give away two ‘Mystery Games’ next week

8 May 2026 at 10:15

Each week, the Epic Games Store gives away a title or two for free as part of the PC Storefront’s free game program. While the past few months of offerings have been somewhat low-key in nature, Epic appears set to give away something more noteworthy – teasing two ‘mysterious games’ arriving next week.

The Epic Games Store has historically upped the ante when it comes to giving away games for free around the time of major gaming / seasonal events. With Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest less than a month away, Epic appears to be ramping up its program.

Right now, all those with an Epic Games account can get their hands on the “role-puzzling adventure” Arranger as well as the shopkeeping simulator ‘Trash Goblin’.

Epic Games Free

Come Thursday the 14th of May however, these titles will be replaced by two ‘mystery game’ offerings. Typically, Epic will advertise the following week’s free games as soon as the current week’s title is available to claim.

Given that Epic has chosen to hide next week’s offerings, it is safe to assume that the titles will be of relative substantiveness. That said, with the sheer number and variety of titles which they have given away over the years, next week’s free title could be pretty much anything. We will have to wait and see.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for next week’s games? What would you like them to offer? Let us know down below.

2XKO gets new game-changing ‘Teamfight’ mechanic next week

8 May 2026 at 09:00

Despite officially launching earlier this year to less-than-stellar player counts, Riot Games have claimed to be committed to supporting their League of Legends fighting game spin-off 2XKO for the foreseeable future. As part of this, the team have now unveiled the game’s next big update; officially arriving in less than a week.

Releasing a video to their YouTube channel, the team at Riot Games officially unveiled the next big update coming to 2XKO. Set to go live on the 12th of May, this new Fuse known as ‘Teamfight’ will allow “you and your partner to beat on the opponent simultaneously for seven seconds.”

Designed to lend further into the Duos side of 2XKO, this new mechanic should offer a ton of new and different strategies which players can engage in and take advantage of. That said, Teamfight can also be activated when playing solo (in which case you will be able to control one or both fighters at the same time.)

This new potentially transformative addition does come with some limitations however. When Teamfight is active, players won’t be able to use team actions such as tag launchers; assists etc…

Full details on the new Teamfight system can be found HERE, and includes various tips and tricks to make the most of the mechanic.

Fighting games are a delicate balance, and so it will be interesting to see whether Teamfight proves to be additive to the experience, or destructive. We won’t have to wait long to find out, with the update officially arriving early next week.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this upcoming update? Is it too big of a switch-up, or is this what 2XKO needs to stand out and stay fresh? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Summer Game Fest 2026 gets official premiere date and time

7 May 2026 at 12:00

Summer Game Fest has pretty much become the de facto video game event of the season, with Geoff Keighley’s annual showcase growing every single year – amassing over 50 million viewers during 2025’s presentation. With 2026’s edition almost exactly one month away, Keighley and co. have now confirmed an official premiere date and time for “what’s next in video games.”

Releasing a teaser trailer comprised primarily of games which have released over the course of 2026 so far (while also teasing a number of upcoming titles), Geoff Keighley officially confirmed that this year’s edition of Summer Game Fest will go live on the 5th of June at 9PM GMT.

As mentioned, the trailer mainly focused on games which have already been released. That said, the video did include snippets from a number of upcoming titles, including Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider; 007 First Light; LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight; Star Wars: Galactic Racer and more.

Like always, expect Keighley to continue teasing their Summer Game Fest announcements over the coming weeks as we step closer towards the event’s official premiere date. It will be interesting to learn exactly how long this year’s edition will wind up being.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VII to get major free ‘Test of Time’ update later this month

7 May 2026 at 11:00

The Civilization series is by far one of the biggest in the strategy game space, with the franchise stretching back as far as 1991. Unfortunately, the arrival of Civ VII last year did not go too smoothly, launching to a mixed reception on Steam. A little over a year on from its initial release, Firaxis Games are set to drop a massive free content drop for Civilization VII – dubbed the ‘Test of Time’ update.

Making the announcement via their blog, the team at Firaxis Games officially unveiled their upcoming ‘Test of Time’ update.

Set to arrive on the 19th of May, this impending patch is designed to “synthesize over a year's worth of listening, iteration, and playtesting into a one massive, free update that exists in tandem with the many smaller-yet-meaningful updates already released since launch.”

The full list of changes and additions can be found HERE, but some of the most notable include:

  • The ability to play as one civ throughout an entire campaign
  • New “completely reworked” Victories system
  • Replacing Legacy Paths with a new Triumphs system
  • A new Fractal Continent map
  • A new Commerce screen
  • A new Advisor Council
  • Updated map generation
  • New Narrative Events
  • Updates to Specialists and Biomes
  • Additional audio and music
  • A new leader

While certainly substantial on paper, it will be interesting to see whether Firaxis have done enough to win back fans who were less-than-pleased during the game’s launch months. We won’t have to wait long to find out, with the Test of Time update officially arriving in under two weeks’ time.

Mina the Hollower officially releases later this month

7 May 2026 at 10:00

Back in 2022, the team at Yacht Club Games officially announced Mina The Hollower, their first new IP since the highly successful Shovel Knight. After years of excitement and waiting, the game was confirmed to be launching last Halloween. Unfortunately, the title would later be delayed, with the team offering no new date at the time. Finally however, the much anticipated classic Zelda-like is officially launching at the ‘tail’ end of this month.

Making the announcement, the team at Yacht Club Games officially confirmed the “TRUE FINAL RELEASE DATE” for Mina the Hollower, revealing that the game will launch on the 29th of May.

Alongside its release date, the team also confirmed the game’s price, with the title setting you back $20. Self-described quite humourously as “one of the greatest top-down adventures ever to be delivered directly to your soul for less than 20 bucks,” Mina the Hollower has been a long time coming.

For the uninitiated, Mina the Hollower is a Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening inspired Game Boy Colour-styled action-adventure title which offers just as much fun and charm as Nintendo’s early efforts – while of course including some more modern quality-of-life design decisions.

6 years on from its initial inception, Mina the Hollower is finally almost here. It will be interesting to see what fans think of the final product when it arrives in a few squeak’s [week’s] time.

Take-Two CEO confirms that Switch 2 is not a ‘primary’ platform for the publisher

7 May 2026 at 09:15

While the game was initially announced to be releasing on Nintendo Switch 2 roughly around the same time as its PC / home console counterparts, Borderlands 4 would later be indefinitely delayed, sparking concerns that the title might not make its way onto Nintendo’s handheld hybrid. According to the CEO of Take-Two, Borderlands 4 is still coming to the system, even though Nintendo is not a “primary console platform” for the publisher.

In a recent interview conducted by the publication GameFile, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked about the ongoing indefinite delay of Borderlands 4 on Switch 2, and whether the port had been cancelled.

According to Zelnick, one of the main reasons for the delay was to allow Gearbox time to fix up the PC version (which famously suffered from a troubled launch), stating: “We've been addressing those challenges, and we want to make sure that we've fully addressed Borderlands 4 from a consumer's point of view before we bring it to more platforms.”

Switch 2 Borderlands

Even so, Zelnick made it clear that Switch 2 will remain a secondary priority for the publisher, adding that “We want to be wherever the consumer is, and we've supported Switch 2. You can tell from what we are doing and what we're not doing that our primary console platforms remain Sony and Microsoft.”

While not directly stated, Zelnick is likely referring to Grand Theft Auto VI, which is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year. Still, hopefully by the time GTA VI is out, Switch 2 owners will be able to finally try out Borderlands 4.

Xbox shows off new console boot up sequence as part of brand refresh

7 May 2026 at 08:30

In the wake of Asha Sharma’s appointment as the new CEO of Xbox, we’ve seen the console maker rather quickly pivot away from its previous brand identity which it had built over the past couple generations. Following the unveiling of their new logo, Xbox have now shared a look at the new console boot up sequence coming to all systems soon.

Asha Sharma has been rather active online since her appointment as the new Xbox CEO. Alongside responding to fans, Sharma has been sharing various titbits regarding Xbox and its future.

After the recent unveiling of Xbox’s new shiny and translucent logo, Sharma has now taken to Twitter to show off the brand new console boot up sequence, writing: “New boot up coming next Wednesday. Sound on!”

While relatively basic, the new intro is clean and does help to freshen up Xbox’s visual identity (which has trended somewhat towards minimalism and flatness over the years).

The accompanying audio is perhaps more hit-or-miss, with it starting on a bit too much of a strong note – though we will have to wait and see how it both looks and sounds when being booted up on an actual console.

Regardless, while a logo refresh and a new boot up sequence is far from transformative, it does feel as though Microsoft / Xbox under Asha Sharma is trying to win back long-lost fans.

Remedy’s Control officially surpasses 6 million copies sold

6 May 2026 at 12:00

Earlier this year, the team at Remedy Entertainment revealed that their excellent 3rd-person metroidvania-esque shooter Control had officially sold over 5 million copies since its launch back in 2019. With its sequel Control Resonant set to release some time this year however, interest in the first entry has grown significantly, with the original Control having now surpassed 6 million total copies sold.

As part of the company’s latest investor report, Remedy Entertainment offered updates on their current projects, including the Max Payne remake; the aforementioned Control Resonant and a mysterious new project currently in its proof-of-concept stage.

Alongside this, the team also shared updated sales stats for the first Control, revealing that the title has now sold over 6 million copies.

While an impressive achievement in its own right, this marks a notable uptick in sales over the past few months, with the most recent update prior revealing that the game had shifted 5 million copies by February of this year.

Control Million

At the time, the team revealed that 1 million copies were sold in 2025 alone – half a decade on from its initial launch. It appears as though excitement towards its sequel has led to a major influx in sales however, having now pushed a further 1 million units in under 3 months.

Remedy has always struggled somewhat when it comes to turning their unique offerings into financially successful products. That said, it seems Control has managed to break past the glass ceiling. It will be interesting to see how quickly Resonant manages to find success.

Each month, all those with a Humble Choice subscription are able to claim a solid 8 titles for the relatively low price of £11.49. For the month of May, subscribers can look forward to a strong line-up filled with plenty of heavy-hitters, including the likes of Diablo IV, Shin Megami Tensei V, Crysis 3 Remastered and more.

Shin Megami Tensei V is another major inclusion, with the 100+ hour-long RPG from ATLUS offering slick visuals, fresh-yet-familiar gameplay and two different story paths for plenty of replayability.

As always, Humble also currently have a number of different bundles on offer, including a Dead Rising Collection; a Bungie bundle; the Playism publisher bundle and more.

Insider claims Metroid, Zelda and Smash Bros. games are in the works

6 May 2026 at 09:00

Depending on which Nintendo IP you prefer, the first year for the Switch 2 has either been great or disappointing, with notable franchises missing from the console’s launch year line-up. That said, the next 12 or so months could see a number of fan-favourite IPs make their Switch 2 debut, with insiders claiming that a Zelda game is scheduled to release in 2027 – with Smash Bros. coming “in the next year or two.”

As reported by ‘Kiwi Talkz’ (known best for their in-depth game dev interviews), Nintendo is set to have a pretty big 2027/28, taking to Twitter to claim that their “4 favourite game franchises of all time” are set to “have stuff coming either soon or in a year or two.”

Expanding on this, Kiwi Talkz then claimed that 3 of these 4 are Nintendo properties, with “another Metroid game on the near horizon, Smash Bros in the next year or two and another Zelda game & the movie in 2027.”

Zelda Switch 2

It is worth noting that this does not mean that each of these franchises are set to receive major new additions, with the insider clarifying that these titles could be brand new entries; spin-offs; remasters or even something as basic as Nintendo Switch Online additions.

Regardless, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still lacking a number of major first-party IPs, and so it will be interesting to learn what they have planned for the likes of Zelda and Smash Bros.
