Entering into the video games industry is getting harder and more troublesome with each passing year, not only due to the sheer number of lay-offs happening all over the place, but also as a result of financial fears among other roadblocks. In an effort to ‘pay it forward’ industry icons Mark Cerny and Geoff Keighley have announced their new ‘Nova Games Foundation’ initiative.

Taking part in an interview with the publication Game File, PlayStation’s lead architect Mark Cerny and The Game Awards / Summer Game Fest creator Geoff Keighley jointly announced their new ‘philanthropic’ initiative: the Nova Games Foundation.

Described as a “university-affiliated fellowship program” which will offer grants worth at least $100,000 to 20 young game designers a year, the Nova Games Foundation is designed around “no-strings-attached funding along with mentorship from games industry leaders.”

Full details on the foundation and their grants can be found HERE. As of now however, Nova Games have partnered with 13 universities across 8 countries, including Scotland; France; Germany and Australia.

Speaking on this project, Keighley claimed: “I’ve always wanted to give back, but given my role in the industry, I’ve never felt it appropriate to commercially invest in games. I’ve never owned stock in a game company or taken a financial stake in a game. Nova is philanthropy: we aren’t taking equity or looking to recoup the grants. The return we’re hoping for is creative—helping new voices make games and find their footing.”

Cerny offered a similar sentiment, writing: “I’m nearing the end of my career. I’m not done yet, but paying it forward—in the best way possible—is very much on my mind these days.”

As with many industries, getting your foot through the door can be the hardest part. Thus, it is encouraging to see two of the industry’s biggest names trying to do something about it.

At this point, Geoff Keighley has pretty much become the face of video game announcements, with the micro-celebrity hosting 3 of the biggest showcases each and every year: Summer Game Fest, Gamescom Opening Night Live and The Game Awards. Regarding the latter, Keighley has now officially announced this year’s edition of The Game Awards – set to go live on the 10th of December.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Game Awards creator Geoff Keighley wrote: “The countdown is officially on. December 10. Live from Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Four months until @TheGameAwards More details – and tickets – coming this fall.”

While nothing else is known regarding what to expect from the showcase, Keighley will typically offer teasers and additional details in the months leading up to the event, and so expect plenty of more news to come between now and December.

At this point, The Game Awards is easily the biggest annual awards ceremony for the industry. Beginning in 2014, the showcase received a total of just 1.9 million viewers. In the decade since however, The Game Awards has seen continuous growth – with 2025’s show amassing a whopping 171 million viewers.

2026 has been an excellent year for game releases so far, with tons of other major titles still set to arrive over the coming months. It will be interesting to see what this year’s awards show winds up looking like (and whether they will finally put a greater focus on the awards themselves as opposed to game announcements).

After taking somewhat of a break from the video games industry for a solid half decade or so, Konami has slowly but surely earned back many fans with the successful launches of various remasters, remakes and even some original games. Looking forward in the short-term, the publisher has now announced its presence at next month’s Gamescom while confirming its line-up – including a new trailer for the soon-to-be-released Silent Hill: Downfall.

Making the announcement via a press release, Konami confirmed their presence at next month’s Gamescom (kicking off on the 26th of August), writing: “Konami […] announces its return to gamescom 2026 and brings its legendary titles to the world’s largest and leading event for the video games industry.”

As mentioned, Konami is keeping things relatively light this year, with the biggest announcement set to be the brand new trailer for Silent Hill: Townfall – planned to be shown off during Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live presentation.

In terms of games, the only other title being showcased is Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, with attendees being given https://www.konami.com/games/eu/en/topics/19215/the chance to have hands-on with the first new entry in this series in over a decade.

Regardless, both Silent Hill: Townfall and Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be in the hands of all players soon enough, with the former set to launch on the 24th of September, and the latter coming just a few weeks later on the 15th of October.

Summer Game Fest has pretty much become the de facto video game event of the season, with Geoff Keighley’s annual showcase growing every single year – amassing over 50 million viewers during 2025’s presentation. With 2026’s edition almost exactly one month away, Keighley and co. have now confirmed an official premiere date and time for “what’s next in video games.”

Releasing a teaser trailer comprised primarily of games which have released over the course of 2026 so far (while also teasing a number of upcoming titles), Geoff Keighley officially confirmed that this year’s edition of Summer Game Fest will go live on the 5th of June at 9PM GMT.

As mentioned, the trailer mainly focused on games which have already been released. That said, the video did include snippets from a number of upcoming titles, including Lara Croft’s Tomb Raider; 007 First Light; LEGO Batman: Legacy of The Dark Knight; Star Wars: Galactic Racer and more.

Like always, expect Keighley to continue teasing their Summer Game Fest announcements over the coming weeks as we step closer towards the event’s official premiere date. It will be interesting to learn exactly how long this year’s edition will wind up being.
