The Epic Games Store and Epic Games Launcher is Getting a “Ground-Up Rebuild,” Roadmap Shows Long-Awaited Features on their way

18 June 2026 at 19:47

The image shows the Epic Games Store logo on a black background with diagonal blue lines.

As Epic Games is going through what's coming next from the company in terms of Unreal Engine, it's also revealing what we can expect from its other divisions, like the Epic Games Store. While Epic has admitted it's not going to beat Steam and become the new number one digital storefront on PC, that isn't stopping the company from making the store better than what we have now. Which is why Epic revealed today it has a lot of plans for the future of the EGS and the Epic Games Launcher, which are getting a "ground-up rebuild." Images from Epic's […]

Unreal Engine 6 is still a long way off from release

18 June 2026 at 15:00

A few weeks ago, Epic Games quietly announced that Unreal Engine 6 was on the way, with plans to debut with a major Rocket League update. Now, Epic has made its plans for the new Unreal Engine clear, planning an early access period for developers, which will last up to 18 months.

According to Epic Games, Unreal Engine 6 will become available in ‘early access' starting in late 2027. The full release version of the engine will then arrive “12-18 months later”.

Unreal Engine 6 is built on top of UE5, combining features from later UE5 revisions, along with elements of Epic's own Unreal Editor for Fortnite, into one software platform.

Considering the lengthy timeline for early access, as well as how long it takes to develop new AAA games from scratch, we won't see the first UE6 titles until 2030.

KitGuru Says: For now, all of this news is very developer-centric. Gamers won't have to worry about Unreal Engine 6 for a few more years at least.

Vampire Survivors back-track on Fortnite crossover following Epic’s GenAI controversy.

18 June 2026 at 08:00

There was once a time when crossing over with Fortnite meant that you had pretty much made it in the video games space, with some of the biggest franchises in the world collaborating with Epic Games in one form or another. While the popular indie hit Vampire Survivors was set to find its way into Fortnite, recent GenAI controversies pertaining to Epic Games now has studio Poncle “reviewing” their plans for said crossover.

During the company’s recent State of Unreal presentation, Epic Games announced a boatload of upcoming crossovers planned to be heading to Fortnite throughout the rest of 2026. Totalling over 30 different IPs, some of the games listed included Sonic Racing Crossworlds, Control Resonant; Phantom Blade 0 and Vampire Survivors.

While initially met with some excitement, this quickly dissipated as the company confirmed that they have been using generative AI to help create and design concept art for Fortnite.

Fortnite Vampire Survivors

In the wake of this, Vampire Survivors studio Poncle responded to the revelations, making a stance against the practice while re-evaluating their recently-announced collaboration – taking to the official Vampire Survivors subreddit to write: “Following today's news about gen AI usage by Epic to create all sort of game assets, including Fortnite characters, we're currently ‘reviewing’ our collaboration with Fortnite. We'll let you know if anything moves forward.”

Based on the wording, whether the collab goes through or not seems to depend on how much wiggle room there is with the contract which Poncle likely signed prior to the announcement.

We will have to wait and see, but if nothing else, it is encouraging to see some of Epic’s own partners seemingly trying to put their money where their mouths are.

KitGuru says: Are you surprised by Epic’s recent GenAI revelations? Could Epic Games reverse-course given enough of a backlash? Let us know your thoughts down below.

First-Person rhythm shooter ‘ROBOBEAT’ and ‘Citizen Sleeper’ will be free on the Epic Games Store

12 June 2026 at 11:00

Each week, the Epic Games Store gives away a title to two for free to all those with an Epic Games account. With this week’s free titles now available to claim, next week’s offerings have now been officially revealed – with the first-person rhythm shooter ROBOBEAT and the excellent narrative-focused RPG Citizen Sleeper being given away from the 18th of June.

Available to add to your library from now until the 18th of June, all those with an EGS account can claim the chess rogue-lite ‘The Ouroboros King’ alongside the “adrenaline-fueled” combat racer Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks. Next Thursday however will see two more titles being given away: Citizen Sleeper and ROBOBEAT.

Citizen Sleeper is an excellent dice-based narrative-focused RPG featuring striking visuals and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack. Released back in 2022, the game went on to be nominated for a number of awards, including RPG of the Year (at the DICE Awards) and Game of the Year at the Game Developers Choice Awards.

ROBOBEAT meanwhile is a first-person ‘rhythm shooter’ in which you play as “Ace – a bounty hunter on a mission to capture robot-gone-rogue Frazzer”. Featuring fast-paced gameplay, satisfying movement mechanics and rogue-lite elements, ROBOBEAT is a strong addition to the increasingly growing rhythm-shooter genre.

Both Citizen Sleeper and ROBOBEAT will be free to claim from the 18th of June. In the meantime, don’t forget to claim this week’s offerings.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this week’s offerings? What about next week’s? What’s your favourite rhythm shooter? Let us know down below.

Combat Racer Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks will be free on the Epic Games Store

5 June 2026 at 14:00

Each week, the Epic Games Store gives away a title or two as part of the platform’s free game program. While the past month or so saw Epic giving away ‘Mystery Titles’ the storefront has since returned to business as usual – announcing that next week’s free offering will be the “adrenaline-fueled” combat racer Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks.

Available to add to your library from the 11th of June up until the 18th, next week’s free game is confirmed to be Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks.

A combat racer in the style of PlayStation’s classic Twisted Metal series – albeit with far greater scope on the racing side of things – Speed Freeks released just over a year ago on PC to ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam with many noting it as an underrated title. The game also recently found its way onto consoles, adding crossplay among other inclusions.

As mentioned, Warhammer 40K: Speed Freeks will be available from next Thursday. In the meantime, Epic Games Store account holders can get their hands on the tactical turn-based Rogue-like ‘Rogue Waters’ alongside ‘Songs of Conquest’ – a visually pleasing turn-based strategy adventure game. Both titles are available to claim from now until the 11th of June.

NVIDIA and Epic Helped Tides of Annihilation Devs Fix ‘Giant Knight’ Frame Drops Ahead of Summer Demo

27 May 2026 at 15:30

A character from the game 'Tides of Annihilation' is portrayed with intricate armor and jewelry next to the game's logo.

Today, Chinese developer Eclipse Glow Games shared a new behind-the-scenes video about their upcoming single player fantasy action/adventure game, Tides of Annihilation. This video has a decidedly technical focus and reveals the studio's "deep technical partnership" with Unreal Engine maker Epic Games and NVIDIA to greatly improve the game's optimization. The previous footage showcased colossal fights, such as against the Giant Knight, where the frame rate clearly dropped significantly. With the help of Epic, the developers of Tides of Annihilation created a new hierarchical mounting solution for the Giant Knight's Nanite mesh. Epic also helped analyze performance issues on both […]

Epic Games announces Unreal Engine 6

25 May 2026 at 14:30

It looks like the era of Unreal Engine 5 is coming to an end. Epic Games has announced plans for Unreal Engine 6, with Rocket League set to be the first game to make use of the new technology.

The announcement of Unreal Engine 6 comes just a year or so after the birth of Unreal Engine 5.6, which introduced some much-needed optimisations to reduce stutter and other issues in massive open world games. CD Projekt Red is credited with having helped create these new optimisation features as part of its effort to develop The Witcher 4.

According to Epic, Unreal Engine 6 will power “the next era of Rocket League”, although we expect that other titles like Fortnite will also get the upgrade to UE6 pretty early on in its life cycle.

Epic has not yet shared further details about Unreal Engine 6, but the new version should include all of the optimisations brought into UE5 late in its life cycle. This would offer a fresh start, as gamers have begun to criticise UE5-based games for their performance flaws.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Rocket League was built on Unreal Engine 3, so this would mark a major overhaul for the game. There is still no word on when Unreal Engine 6 will be made widely available on the market, so it could be years before we see AAA games from third-party studios utilising the technology.

Epic Games Tips Unreal Engine 6 Timeline With Rocket League Reveal, Targeting UE5’s Multithreading Wall

24 May 2026 at 18:30

During the Rocket League Championship Series 2026 in Paris, developer Psyonix and parent company Epic Games revealed that the popular free-to-play vehicular soccer game will be the first game to use the new Unreal Engine 6. That's really all we know right now, as neither Psyonix nor Epic provided any details about the update or the engine. Thus, we have no choice but to fall back on Epic's previous comments on the next generation of its game-making suite. In May 2025, Epic president and majority owner Tim Sweeney said UE6 was “a few years away” and that Epic may seed preview versions […]

Fortnite is Back on the App Store Worldwide as Epic Celebrates “The Beginning of the End of the Apple Tax”

19 May 2026 at 13:41

Characters from 'Fortnite' are standing on a hill and vehicle overlooking a vibrant and expansive landscape with a lake, buildings, and an 'EMINEM' sign visible in the distance.

There's light at the end of the tunnel of the incredibly protracted legal battle between Epic Games and Apple that began six years ago when Epic first introduced its own direct payment system in Fortnite, bypassing Apple's 30% fee on all transactions on iOS. The case has taken several major turns and been the cause of a lot of industry shuffling, but at long last, the popular battle royale is back on iOS devices in almost every region across the globe. The 'almost' stipulation applies to the fact that Fortnite is not back on iOS devices in Australia yet, despite […]

European alternative to Unreal and Unity is in development

11 May 2026 at 13:00

Guerrilla Games co-founder and former Epic Games director Arjan Brussee has announced the development of The Immense Engine, a new graphics rendering platform pitched as a European alternative to Unreal Engine and Unity.

Speaking on the Dutch podcast De Technoloog (via VGC), Brussee detailed his new startup's mission to provide a region-hosted solution that complies with European data regulations and reduces reliance on American and Chinese technology.

The Immense Engine is designed with a “modular, agentic AI” architecture rather than a traditional monolithic stack. Brussee argues that established engines were built for manual, menu-driven workflows, whereas his platform will utilise integrated AI agents to handle complex tasks. According to Brussee, a properly implemented framework of AI agents could allow a single developer to handle the workload of 10 to 15 people.

Beyond game development, the engine is targeting 3D simulations for logistics and defence sectors. Brussee emphasised that because the platform will be hosted entirely in Europe, it offers data sovereignty for government and industrial projects that require strict regional compliance. The technology will rely on cloud resources while maintaining a “Europe-first” hosting strategy to differentiate itself from U.S. competitors.

KitGuru says: Can this new Immense Engine bring down the Unreal Engine leadership?

The Epic Games Store will give away two ‘Mystery Games’ next week

8 May 2026 at 10:15

Each week, the Epic Games Store gives away a title or two for free as part of the PC Storefront’s free game program. While the past few months of offerings have been somewhat low-key in nature, Epic appears set to give away something more noteworthy – teasing two ‘mysterious games’ arriving next week.

The Epic Games Store has historically upped the ante when it comes to giving away games for free around the time of major gaming / seasonal events. With Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest less than a month away, Epic appears to be ramping up its program.

Right now, all those with an Epic Games account can get their hands on the “role-puzzling adventure” Arranger as well as the shopkeeping simulator ‘Trash Goblin’.

Epic Games Free

Come Thursday the 14th of May however, these titles will be replaced by two ‘mystery game’ offerings. Typically, Epic will advertise the following week’s free games as soon as the current week’s title is available to claim.

Given that Epic has chosen to hide next week’s offerings, it is safe to assume that the titles will be of relative substantiveness. That said, with the sheer number and variety of titles which they have given away over the years, next week’s free title could be pretty much anything. We will have to wait and see.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for next week’s games? What would you like them to offer? Let us know down below.

Cthulhu The Cosmic Abyss PC Performance Analysis & Tuning Guide – How To Get Best Experience On PC

19 April 2026 at 20:20

An image from the game 'Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss' shows a diver with the number '03' on their suit, surrounded by tentacles and the face of Cthulhu, alongside the text 'Performance Analysis & Tuning Guide' at the top.

With PC games growing increasingly complex nowadays — especially ones built on Epic Games's infamous Unreal Engine 5 — default/maxed-out graphics settings rarely (if at all) strike the optimal balance between visual fidelity and performance that most PC gamers seek, and Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is no exception to this rule. As a demanding UE5 game, it should come as no surprise to many that the game's maxed-out/Epic graphics settings will be very GPU-heavy, and thus should require some tweaking to achieve better performance on most rigs, without hopefully completely sacrificing visual fidelity. This guide should hopefully help you strike […]

Fortnite UEFN Gets AI-Powered NPC Conversations: Epic Taps Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite and ElevenLabs

19 April 2026 at 17:00

Fortnite is getting LLM-powered AI NPCs.

Remember Fortnite's AI-powered Darth Vader that led SAG-AFTRA to file an unfair labor practice charge against Epic Games? Well, the studio has now revealed the latest evolution of the technology. Originally described as a "Persona device", the tech is now simply called "conversations", but the core remains the same: Fortnite developers can use conversations to create AI-powered characters with personalities and voices that can talk, react, respond to player actions, and even influence gameplay. Released with Fortnite's v40.20 update (launched on April 16), it is available in the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and allows island creators to build AI-powered […]

You might recall that just two short years ago in February 2024, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Fortnite maker Epic Games, with grand plans to create a persistent Disney universe within Fortnite based on Disney franchises. We've already seen part of this deal bear fruit with the introduction of Disnyeland in Fortnite, and according to a new report from Bloomberg, we're due to get the next fruit in November 2026. And according to the report, it's an incredibly significant release for Epic, because it is meant to mark the beginning of its comeback tour. Epic Games recently laid of 1,000 […]

“Forever Games, It Turns Out, Aren’t”: Analyst Calls Fortnite Makers Decline “Inevitable” Following Epic’s Latest Mass Layoff

6 April 2026 at 15:36

Characters from 'Fortnite' are standing on a hill and vehicle overlooking a vibrant and expansive landscape with a lake, buildings, and an 'EMINEM' sign visible in the distance.

A few short years ago, and perhaps even more recently than that, it felt like Fortnite would be around as long as video games are available to be played, and nothing would ever be able to truly topple Epic Games while it has the biggest video game on the planet in its portfolio. It's likely that there are a lot of people who still feel that way, but after Epic's recent mass layoff of over 1,000 developers caused by a downturn in Fortnite engagement, among other issues, sentiments that the free-to-play battle royale monster is immortal have taken a turn. […]
