The Blood of Dawnwalker is already hiring for its sequel

9 September 2026 at 08:45

The Blood of Dawnwalker appears to already be the next big thing in the RPG space, with the non-linear dark fantasy title from ex-CDPR devs at Rebel Wolves arriving to high praise and equally high sales. Less than a week on from the game’s official launch, Rebel Wolves are already hiring for its sequel.

Marking the debut title from new studio Rebel Wolves, The Blood of Dawnwalker has already made its presence well known; with the action-RPG being praised in particular for its narrative and writing while selling over 1 million copies in 48 hours.

Capitalising on the game’s success, The Blood of Dawnwalker’s narrative director Jakub Szamalek took to LinkedIn to announce that work is already underway on a sequel, posting:

“Hey writers! Me again. The Blood of Dawnwalker released to critical acclaim and sold over one million copies in the opening weekend. But! We're not resting on our laurels – no, siree! We're already thinking about (sic) comes next.”

Dawnwalker Sequel

Szamalek continued, “And so! Drum roll please! I'm looking for a Lead Writer to help me and the narrative team craft the next chapter in the Dawnwalker saga. We're looking for someone who, to put it bluntly, writes EXCEPTIONALLY well, has a track record of excellence and experience in team management.”

As mentioned, The Blood of Dawnwalker has been particularly praised for its writing and characters, and so it makes sense that Rebel Wolves would want to ensure that they have the right team at the helm for what will likely be a highly-anticipated sequel.

KitGuru says: What do you think of The Blood of Dawnwalker? Is it as compelling as many have claimed? What would you like to see them focus on with the sequel? Let us know down below.

CAPCOM’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Rebel Wolves’ The Blood of Dawnwalker Have Already Become Million Sellers

7 September 2026 at 09:30

On the left, text reads 'THE BLOOD OF DAWNWALKER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD' over a red and orange mountain scene, while on the right, two characters from 'ONIMUSHA WAY OF THE' are in a dynamic battle pose with vivid colors.

Rebel Wolves and CAPCOM have announced that their latest games, The Blood of Dawnwalker and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, have already surpassed one million units sold across all platforms. The Polish developer shared the news on social media with a celebratory image. The Japanese studio, on the other hand, put out a press release that provided a bit more info; Onimusha: Way of the Sword became a million-seller on its launch day, and its performance was already enough to push the franchise's lifetime sales to over 10 million units. They're great results in both cases. Rebel Wolves is a […]

Rebel Wolves debut RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker sells 1 million copies in 48 hours

7 September 2026 at 12:00

Rebel Wolves has confirmed that its debut RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, has sold over 1 million copies worldwide within its first 48 hours on sale.

Crossing the one‑million mark this quickly is a rare achievement for a brand‑new franchise, even with a simultaneous launch across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rebel Wolves was founded in 2022 by former Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, and very quickly, a team of Witcher 3 veterans were able to put together this dense, high-quality RPG, without spending hundreds of millions of dollars, or taking 6+ years of development time.

Critic reception has been strong across the board. Over on OpenCritic, the game holds an 85 average rating based on more than 100 critic reviews. Meanwhile, the Metacritic score sits at 83 overall, drawn from around 60 published reviews.

Player sentiment is similarly positive. On Steam, The Blood of Dawnwalker currently holds a Very Positive rating based on more than 7,000 user reviews. The top‑rated reviews consistently highlight the game’s quest structure, emphasis on exploration and immersion, and its refusal to rely on heavy hand‑holding, qualities many players feel are missing from modern open‑world RPGs.

KitGuru Says: Hitting one million copies in just two days is a huge win for Rebel Wolves. With the first game being a quick success, hopefully the developers can now start planning for their next game.

Blood of Dawnwalker mod removes the game’s best feature

By: Aftab Ali
5 September 2026 at 11:31

The Blood of Dawnwalker’s best feature is its 30-day countdown, and modders have already gutted it.

The time-passing system is what separates it from RPGs like Cyberpunk 2077, where you’re told your character has weeks to live yet somehow spend months chasing side quests without consequence. Blood of Dawnwalker actually commits to the pressure.

A mod that removes the point of the game

The top mod on Nexus Mods stretches the timer from 30 days to 90 and removes the time cost from levelling up. That means you can do everything the game offers in a single playthrough, no trade-offs, no urgency, no reason to ever choose.

image 4
Screenshot from Nexus Mods

That’s the entire design gone. Big quests are meant to eat your limited time, forcing you to play a different version of Coen each playthrough, one with different priorities and different calls to make on people like Brencis. Strip that away, and you’re left with a generic RPG that plays exactly like everything else on the shelf. You lose the replay value, too.

It’s like cutting heroes from Dota 2, or guns from Call of Duty. Technically still a game. Just not the one anyone made.

So why buy it, install a mod that deletes its core system, and then play a worse version of it? If the timer isn’t for you, that’s fine, but removing it isn’t fixing the game. It’s just a different, weaker game wearing the same skin.

Modders quickly remove Blood of Dawnwalker’s built-in time limits

4 September 2026 at 13:00

The Blood of Dawnwalker is out and while most are enjoying their time with it, not everyone is on board with the way time works in that game. Fortunately for those of us on PC, there is a mod that removes it entirely if you'd rather enjoy your playthrough without a doom timer ticking down.

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, you are essentially given 30 in-game days to save your family and complete the main quest. However, most side quests, and even some powerful abilities, will eat up chunks of your time each day, widdling down the time you have left for completing the main quest. The idea behind this system is to force players to be more mindful in what quests they spend time on, and to encourage replayability, as it should be impossible to see everything in a single run.

However, some people prefer to do a completionist run, and don't necessarily enjoy the time-management aspect of the game. On PC, there is a fix for that, as a mod called “better story timer” is already available, allowing players to either adjust the in-game timer to offer more generous time limits, or remove the time limit entirely for the main quest.

The mod also includes the option to remove time costs from certain perks and skills in the game.

As there is no mod support for the game on consoles, those on Xbox and PlayStation will have to play by the game's rules.

KitGuru Says: The time management aspect is crucial to this game, so I'll be playing with it working as intended. Are many of you jumping into The Blood of Dawnwalker this weekend?

The Blood of Dawnwalker stutters hard and caps cutscenes at 30FPS

By: Aftab Ali
3 September 2026 at 05:45

The Blood of Dawnwalker just launched, and it’s already got a technical mess on its hands. Bandai Namco’s new Unreal Engine 5 title suffers from heavy stuttering and, weirdly, locks most of its cutscenes at 30FPS.

Tested on an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000MHz, and an RTX 5090, running Windows 10 with the GeForce 616.64 driver, paints a rough picture for a day-one release.

A 30FPS cap that makes no sense

The Blood of Dawnwalker opens with a cinematic locked to 30FPS. On PC. In 2026. Oddly, cutscenes with player decisions run unlocked, while everything else stays capped, which makes the pacing feel jarring depending on which scene you’re in. A patch could fix this, or we wait for a modder to do the devs’ job for them.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Stutters every time you move the camera

The prologue runs clean, so the first impression is decent. Then the village hits, and the stuttering starts. This isn’t traversal stutter; it’s camera-movement stutter, and since this is a third-person action RPG, that means near-constant frame pacing issues.

On performance, Lumen is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. At native 4K on Ultra, the first village hovers around 45-50FPS. DLSS Quality pushes it above 60FPS consistently. For a UE5 game leaning this hard on Lumen, the visuals aren’t matching the performance cost.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

A lot of people were hyped for this one, so it’s worth flagging: this game needed more time in the oven.

The Blood of Dawnwalker launches to strong reviews

2 September 2026 at 10:22

The Blood of Dawnwalker officially launches today and it will be coming out to strong praise from critics. The game is launching to a wave of high review scores, as early players point out its strong story, unique structure and combat.

Across OpenCritic, The Blood of Dawnwalker currently holds an 85 average critic rating, while on Metacritic it sits at 83 overall, based on around 60 published reviews. Early impressions point toward a strong, story‑driven RPG with a distinctive tone and plenty of ambition.

Critics have praised the game’s world‑building, characters and blend of horror‑tinged fantasy. IGN awarded the game a 9/10, calling it “an impressive, bloody cocktail of interesting ideas and well‑written characters”. PC Gamer scored it 83/100, describing it as a “resolutely miserable horror RPG” with strong concepts, even if not all of them fully land. Eurogamer gave it 4/5, highlighting its bold ideas and noting that the team’s CD Projekt Red heritage is clear throughout.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a unique RPG in that you aren’t supposed to experience everything in a single playthrough. Your character is on the clock, with a set amount of in‑game time to complete quests and save your family. Ignoring the main quest for too long, or choosing to spend too much time on side content, can lead to a painful ending, so players have to balance their time carefully in a way that few other RPGs demand.

KitGuru Says: The Blood of Dawnwalker is off to a strong start, with solid reviews across the board. Are you planning on picking this game up this week?

Blood of Dawnwalker confirms 60 FPS mode before launch

By: Aftab Ali
24 August 2026 at 14:07

Rebel Wolves just walked back one of the more annoying pieces of news to come out of Blood of Dawnwalker’s pre-launch run. After a video last week revealed the game would cap out at 40 FPS on consoles, even on PS5 Pro, the studio has now confirmed a proper 60 FPS Performance Mode will be ready for launch day on September 3.

Fair play to them, honestly. That original video landed badly, and 40 FPS in 2026 was never going to go down well with console players who’ve gotten used to having the option.

The Blood of Dawnwalker

Blood of Dawnwalker devs listened to the backlash

A post on X from the official Blood of Dawnwalker account cleared things up. The devs said they’d only shown what they were confident they could deliver at the time, and Performance Mode simply wasn’t finished testing yet, so it got left out of that video entirely.

The Blood of #Dawnwalker will receive a Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X on Day 1 through the launch patch.

On Friday, we answered your questions about console performance with what we knew we could confidently deliver at launch.

Performance… pic.twitter.com/Jy38ZFfgFy

— Dawnwalker (@DawnwalkerGame) August 24, 2026

Once fans made it clear this was a dealbreaker for a lot of people, Rebel Wolves pushed to get Performance Mode through testing in time for release. Credit where it’s due, that’s exactly the kind of response you want to see instead of radio silence.

Blood of Dawnwalker is coming from Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco Entertainment on September 3 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Performance Mode fans can breathe easy.

PS5 Pro gives The Blood of Dawnwalker its best console look, still caps at 40 FPS

By: Aftab Ali
24 August 2026 at 09:52

Bandai Namco and Rebel Wolves just gave us our first real look at The Blood of Dawnwalker running on consoles, and there’s good news and slightly less good news wrapped into one video.

Let’s start with the good bit: the PS5 Pro is going to give you the best console version of this game, no contest. But here’s the catch: 60 FPS is staying a PC exclusive. Even Sony’s beefed-up mid-gen console tops out at 40 FPS. Rough for anyone who was hoping their Pro upgrade would finally deliver buttery-smooth combat.

The Blood of Dawnwalker – Official Console Gameplay Trailer

What are the display modes?

The PS5 Pro gets two options:

  • Quality: Dynamic 4K, targeting 30 FPS
  • Balanced: Dynamic 4K, targeting 40 FPS

From the footage, Quality mode looks properly sharp, so that dynamic resolution scaler is clearly doing a good job staying close to native 4K. We didn’t get a look at Balanced mode in action, but I’d bet the extra frames come at the cost of some visual crispness. That’s usually how it goes.

The base PS5 gets identical modes, though the dynamic resolution is noticeably more aggressive in Quality mode, so expect a softer image than on the Pro. Xbox Series X owners are getting much the same deal, with barely any difference from the PS5 experience. As for Xbox Series S, it’s a no-show in the video entirely, and given it’s the weakest box in the lineup, that silence is a little worrying.

The Blood of Dawnwalker
The Blood of Dawnwalker

Is 40 FPS on PS5 Pro disappointing? Sure, a bit. But it’s not shocking, either. This is Unreal Engine 5 we’re talking about, and Rebel Wolves is a much smaller studio than the ones with the resources to fully optimise for Sony’s hardware, on top of already steep PC requirements. 40 FPS with cleaner visuals than the base consoles is a fair trade-off, and if you’re after the best console experience going, the Pro is still your pick.

PlayStation 5 Pro Delivers The Best The Blood of Dawnwalker Console Experience, Yet Still Tops At 40 FPS

21 August 2026 at 14:53

A character in 'The Blood of Dawnwalker' faces a spectral enemy in a dark and ominous environment, holding a katana ready to strike.

Ahead of its launch on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, Bandai Namco and Rebel Wolves provided the first proper look at The Blood of Dawnwalker on consoles, confirming with this new video that PlayStation 5 Pro players will get to experience the best console version, although it will only be on PC that the game will hit 60 FPS. The new footage confirms all the details on the console version's display modes, starting from the PlayStation 5 Pro modes: Looking at the footage, the game looks quite sharp in Quality mode, so it's very likely […]

The Blood of Dawnwalker gets updated PC system requirements

19 August 2026 at 15:29

Rebel Wolves has released updated PC system requirements for The Blood of Dawnwalker ahead of its launch next month. The new specs are lower than previously announced, but the studio still recommends using upscaling across all tiers, leaving some uncertainty over how demanding the game will be without it.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is a new RPG from former Witcher 3 developers, set in 14th‑century Europe as the Black Death ravages the land and vampires rise from the shadows. You play as Coen, a young man turned into a Dawnwalker, torn between humanity and cursed power as you race to save your family. The game features dual day‑night gameplay loops, branching choices, handcrafted open‑world exploration and a narrative shaped by every action, or inaction, as time relentlessly pushes the story forward.

Below are the full PC system requirements for the game (all configurations list upscaling set to Balanced):

The Blood of Dawnwalker will launch on the 2nd of September for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

KitGuru Says: The Blood of Dawnwalker is one of my most anticipated games of the year. It has been a long time since we've had a good vampire-focused RPG, so hopefully this one sticks the landing. With the game being made by key members of The Witcher 3 team, I'm pretty confident that it will.

Rebel Wolves Plans a Blood of Dawnwalker Saga Spanning Eras, with Save Imports Few RPGs Since Mass Effect Have dared

Rebel Wolves surprised fans at Summer Game Fest when it aired a teaser trailer showing The Blood of Dawnwalker protagonist Coen in an entirely different setting. The game itself is set in 14th-century Eastern Europe, but this trailer showed a modern-day courier delivering him a sack of blood. The significance was obvious: the Polish studio aims to create a whole saga centered on Coen. In recent interviews, Rebel Wolves have opened up on their roadmap. Speaking to Eurogamer, Game Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz revealed that part of the reason is to keep the creative juices flowing by jumping across ages and […]

Rebel Wolves Shows That The Blood of Dawnwalker Is Much More Than Another Witcher-Influenced Adventure

7 July 2026 at 22:00

Coen from the game The Blood of Dawnwalker holds a dagger against a fiery orange background with mountains and a solar eclipse.

As a new studio founded by ex-Witcher Alumni, Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco allowed us an intimate four hours with the studio’s inaugural title: The Blood of Dawnwalker. While players may have been initially concerned about being rushed with the story’s thirty-day limit, our experience proved that there’s more than enough content here to enjoy the adventure at your own pace. In The Blood of Dawnwalker, players take on the role of Coen, a perfectly normal human male with a single goal: to save his family from the clutches of an ancient vampire lord named Brencis. The Blood of Dawnwalker PC requirements lowered ahead of September launch

24 June 2026 at 10:00

Rebel Wolves has announced an update lowering the PC system requirements for its debut RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker. The adjustments scale down both the minimum and recommended hardware specifications needed to run the upcoming game at 1080p resolution.

The updated minimum configuration shared by the developer on X now requires an Intel i5-11400F or AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU, down from the original requirement of an Intel i7-8700K or Ryzen 7 3700X. Graphics hardware requirements dropped from an Nvidia RTX 3050 or GTX 1070 down to a GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580.

Targeting 60FPS at 1080p on the recommended tier now requires an Intel i7-11700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X CPU, changing from the previously stated Intel i5-13600 or Ryzen 9 7900X. Recommended graphics cards have been reduced to an RTX 4060 or a Radeon RX 7600 XT, replacing the previous requirement of an RTX 5060 or an RX 6800 XT. Rebel Wolves noted that updated requirements for alternative configurations will be shared later.

According to the developer, we can expect more detailed system requirements and presets at a later date, after the final optimisation processes are complete.

KitGuru says: It seems the optimisation efforts were worth it, given the updated system specs. Now many more fans will be able to pick up the new game without feat of it not running.

Remedy, Insomniac, Rebel Wolves and More Are Colliding in September as GTA 6’s November Launch Warps the Entire AAA Calendar

3 June 2026 at 19:30

A collage featuring characters from various video games: a warrior with a sword, Wolverine with claws extended, a fighter with a large sword, a tech-savvy individual with a device, and a warrior with a blade on his arm.

September 2026 was already looking stacked before the State of Play, but yesterday it became veritably tragic for players' wallets. There are at least five (possibly more, depending on your definition of the category) major triple-A releases squeezing in this month, in what's clearly a desperate effort to stay out of the veritable vortex that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 will spin on the industry when it launches on November 19. They're also in fairly similar genres, practically forcing players to choose which to purchase, with inevitable repercussions for their sales. The only silver lining is that Phantom Blade Zero […]

The Blood of Dawnwalker – Everything We Know About the Dark Fantasy Open World ARPG from The Witcher 3 Devs

A character from 'The Blood of Dawnwalker' stands in a battle-ready pose with a glowing sunlit background and text that reads 'The Blood of Dawnwalker'.

With the delay of the Fable reboot to February 2027, The Blood of Dawnwalker is undoubtedly the most anticipated Western-made roleplaying game due in 2026. Despite being a new intellectual property, the debut game from Polish developer Rebel Wolves benefits from a core development team that worked in key roles on CD Projekt RED's masterpiece, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Indeed, the similarities with the award-winning open world RPG are many, but Rebel Wolves also introduced many features and twists that make it arguably even more interesting, at least on paper.
