Metro 2039, Alien Isolation 2, Fable and more to be showcased at Gamescom

29 July 2026 at 16:00

Xbox has had an increasingly large presence at Gamescom in recent years and 2026 will be no different, with the company set to showcase first-party titles like Gears of War E‑Day and Fable, as well as major third-party titles like Metro 2039 and even Alien Isolation 2.

As announced via Xbox Wire today, the company is preparing one of its biggest Gamescom showings yet. To mark Xbox’s 25th anniversary, the booth will feature 25 upcoming games and around 140 demo stations, giving attendees hands‑on access to many of the platform’s major upcoming releases.

Of course, there is plenty to look forward to for those not attending the event directly. Microsoft will be making a ton of announcements and showing new gameplay footage for upcoming games like Gears of War E-Day, Fable, Metro 2039, Alien Isolation 2, Minecraft Dungeons 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Microsoft will also be streaming daily content throughout Gamescom, including developer interviews, new trailers and extended gameplay segments for many of the titles listed above. The company is also planning special programming to mark Xbox’s 25th anniversary, all of which will be available to watch on YouTube and Twitch during the event.

KitGuru Says: Alien Isolation 2 making an appearance here is certainly a surprise. The fact that Metro 2039 is being shown also bodes well, as I was a little worried that the game would be delayed until much later in 2027, versus its current February release window.

4A Games and Deep Silver have officially announced Metro 2039, the next game in the popular post-apocalyptic shooter series. The studio calls it the darkest chapter so far, and it brings players back to the underground tunnels of Moscow.

The game continues after Metro Exodus and focuses again on survival in a harsh nuclear world. This time, players will follow a new main character called The Stranger. He is fully voiced and faces life under a strict and powerful leader who controls the Metro. The story looks more serious and emotional, with many dangers both from people and the world itself.

Metro 2039 will return to the tight and scary tunnel setting that fans loved in earlier games. The developers are putting more focus on fear, tension, and mental pressure, not just action. This is a clear shift back to what made the series popular in the first place.

The game is built on 4A Games’ own engine, made specially for their titles. The studio says this helps them create better visuals and a more detailed world. Even though no exact release date has been shared, the game is planned for winter 2026, which likely means late in the year.

A gameplay reveal trailer has also been released, giving a first look at the dark tone and setting. From what is shown, Metro 2039 is aiming to deliver a deeper story and a more intense survival experience.

Metro 2039 Returns the Franchise to Moscow’s Tunnels This Winter with a New Protagonist

The next entry in 4A Games' Metro franchise, Metro 2039, was fully unveiled today by the development team during a dedicated streaming event. It will be released this Winter on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Xbox app). First and foremost, it won't be an open world game, unlike Metro Exodus, which featured semi-open world environments. 4A Games is returning to a handcrafted experience that focuses mainly on Moscow's tunnels. Another significant change is that Artyom, the protagonist of the first three games, has been replaced by the so-called Stranger. This is perhaps not so surprising to those […]

Metro 2039 revealed for PC, PS5 and Xbox

16 April 2026 at 17:15

Just as promised, this evening 4A Games officially revealed the next mainline game in the Metro series. Metro 2039 is scheduled to release ‘this Winter', so any potential delay would likely push the game into 2027.

Metro 2039 is a handcrafted, story-driven shooter campaign in which players take on the role of a new character, The Stranger, who is forced to go back down into the Metro tunnels and face horrors they had hoped to leave in the past.

In Metro 2039, the underground factions are unified under one banner – the Novoreich, led by a new Fuhrer: the legendary Spartan, Hunter. The Fuhrer promises salvation and a new life for the people on the surface but in reality, communities remain trapped deep within the Metro, flooded by propaganda and misinformation, suffering under his authoritarian regime.

As ‘The Stranger', players will be taken on a harrowing journey back into the underground tunnels, facing mutants and human enemies alike. Our new protagonist will also be fully voiced as 4A Games looks to lean more into immersion and storytelling.

Metro 2039 will come to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S when it arrives. There is no exact release date yet but for now, it is expected in Winter 2026.

4A Games will reveal the next mainline Metro game this week

14 April 2026 at 14:45

It has been a good while since Metro Exodus came out, capping off the story of Artyom and taking fans through some of the events of the final book. Now, 4A Games is preparing for its next major game, Metro 2039, and it will be announced later this week.

Following a leak earlier this week, 4A Games has officially confirmed that it will be announcing Metro 2039 later this week. The global reveal for the game will be taking place on April 16th at 5PM UK time.

Metro 2039

Metro 2039 will have been in development for several years already and may have been slowed down a bit by the war in Ukraine, which also disrupted other major games like Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. While the game is being announced this year, it isn't necessarily expected to release until 2027.

As Metro Exodus offered an end to Artyom's arc, it is unclear if the new game will carry on with Artyom as the main character, or if 4A Games will shift their focus to a new character.

KitGuru Says: The Metro games have been a favourite of mine sever since Last Light came out. I'm hoping Metro 2039 can impress with its reveal just as Metro Exodus did back in 2018.

New ‘Metro 2039′ game to be officially unveiled this week

14 April 2026 at 10:00

The Metro series is a rather successful yet-underrated franchise, with the 4A Games developed first-person horror shooters successfully translating the depressing world and atmosphere of Dmitry Glukhovsky’s fictionalised post-apocalyptic Russia into video game form. 7 years on from the last mainline entry, the team are finally ready to show off what they’ve been working on, officially confirming that they will host a Metro 2039 reveal stream this week.

Marking the announcement in partnership with Xbox (meaning it will likely be a day-one Game Pass addition), Microsoft and 4A Games officially confirmed that they will be delving into the next chapter of the Metro universe later this week on the 16th of April at 6PM UK time, writing:

“This Thursday, April 16, we’ll be debuting Xbox First Look: Metro 2039 with 4A Games & Deep Silver – a digital-only broadcast offering a world-premiere look at the next title in the beloved post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series.”

Metro 2039

We unfortunately did not get any further details on what to expect, aside from the game’s name and confirmation that it is a new mainline entry set after the previous 3 titles (though this could already be inferred based on the ‘2039’ name itself).

While all three previous mainline entries follow the tale of Artyom, it is currently unknown whether the character will return for this upcoming offering, especially as the description for the series simply reads as being “the stories of survivors of nuclear devastation living in the Moscow subway tunnels and the world that surrounds them.”

Luckily, all of these questions and more should hopefully be answered very soon, with the official reveal stream set to take place in just two days’ time.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to the announcement? What are your expectations for 2039? Should it be structured more like the first two games, or Exodus? Let us know your thoughts down below.
