“It would be difficult” to release a Witcher 4 expansion claims CDPR

1 June 2026 at 11:00

Following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, studio CD Projekt Red offered fans insight into their next decade worth of developments, revealing that they plan to release a Witcher remake, a new Witcher trilogy and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Given their schedule, it makes sense that according to CDPR, there are no plans for The Witcher 4 to receive any expansions in the vein of Hearts of Stone / Blood and Wine.

During the company’s recent earnings call (as transcribed by GamesRadar), the joint CEO for CDPR – Michał Nowakowski – was asked whether future Witcher titles would receive any expansions a-la The Witcher 3, stating:

“Given the very ambitious project pipeline, does the company see room for developing expansions for the new Witcher saga?” to which Nowakowski responded:

“As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious. Specifically, it's to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue.”

CDPR Trilogy

While this does not mean that the games won’t see any post-launch support, don’t expect any major DLCs or expansions moving forward.

That said, given that they hope to release an entire trilogy in the span of 6 years, fans shouldn’t be hurting for more Witcher any time soon – especially with The Witcher 3’s Song of the Past arriving next year.

The Blood of Dawnwalker – Everything We Know About the Dark Fantasy Open World ARPG from The Witcher 3 Devs

31 May 2026 at 13:30

A character from 'The Blood of Dawnwalker' stands in a battle-ready pose with a glowing sunlit background and text that reads 'The Blood of Dawnwalker'.

With the delay of the Fable reboot to February 2027, The Blood of Dawnwalker is undoubtedly the most anticipated Western-made roleplaying game due in 2026. Despite being a new intellectual property, the debut game from Polish developer Rebel Wolves benefits from a core development team that worked in key roles on CD Projekt RED's masterpiece, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Indeed, the similarities with the award-winning open world RPG are many, but Rebel Wolves also introduced many features and twists that make it arguably even more interesting, at least on paper. Release Date, Platforms, Pricing The foundation of Rebel Wolves was announced […]

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Slipped to 2027, but CDPR Says It’ll Rival Blood and Wine’s Sizable Scope

29 May 2026 at 10:30

Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt poised with a sword, alongside the text 'Songs of the Past'.

Following the official reveal of the third expansion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past, Polish developer CD Projekt RED revealed more information during the company's Q1 2026 earnings call. First of all, CDPR boasted that the announcement quickly became the second-most-liked and shared tweet on the saga's official account, only trailing the announcement of The Witcher 4, with 16 million impressions registered within 24 hours of the reveal. With that also comes a lot of responsibility to do it right, which is perhaps part of the reason Songs of the Past got delayed. Investors didn't forget […]

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has officially sold over 65 million copies

29 May 2026 at 10:00

11 years ago The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt released, quickly becoming one of the most celebrated games of all time while catapulting studio CD Projekt Red to new heights. A decade later and the open world RPG continues to be more popular than ever. Following the announcement that the game is set to receive a surprise 3rd expansion next year, CDPR have confirmed that The Witcher 3 has officially sold over 65 million copies.

Making the announcement as part of the studio’s Q1 2026 Earnings report, CDPR officially confirmed that since its release back in 2015, The Witcher 3 has sold over 65 million copies.

This puts it as one of the best selling games of all time, currently sitting between the original Super Mario Bros. (58 million) and Terraria (70 million copies sold) in 8th place.

Witcher 65 million

For context, back in January of this year CDPR confirmed that TW3 had sold a total of 60 million copies, meaning a further 5 million were sold in the past 4 or so months alone.

Given that we’re set to receive a new major expansion over a decade on from Blood and Wine, it will be interesting to see how sales for the title continue to track over the next year in the lead-up to ‘Songs of the Past’s release.

The Witcher 3 Surpasses 65M Copies Sold Ahead of Songs of the Past DLC, as CDPR Focuses More on The Witcher 4

28 May 2026 at 18:08

A character from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt riding a horse through a mountainous landscape.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will officially be getting a new DLC expansion in 2027, developer CD Projekt RED announced just yesterday after months of rumours. Today, embedded within its latest financial report for the first quarter of its 2026 fiscal year, CDPR also revealed that the storied RPG hit yet another massive sales milestone, surpassing 65 million copies sold in its lifetime. The Witcher 3 has been a known success with tens of millions of copies sold in the time since its original launch back in 2015, for years now, which is why it wasn't all too surprising when […]

The Witcher 3 Stuns Players With Songs of The Past DLC, Launching 12 Years After The Base Game Released

27 May 2026 at 09:22

A character from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with two swords stands ready for battle against a dark, wooded background, with text 'Expansion Pack Songs of the Past.'

In the past few months, we heard that a new The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt DLC was in development to bridge the gap with The Witcher 4 (which won't fall into the same development pitfalls as previous games) and kickstart its marketing. The rumors were correct, as a new expansion called Songs of the Past has been announced today. "Medallion's humming... that can only mean one thing! It's time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past," reads the announcement post on social media. "This brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will take […]

CD Projekt Red is hosting a Witcher anniversary livestream tomorrow

27 May 2026 at 14:00

Alongside confirmation of a surprise new expansion for The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has also announced plans to hold an anniversary livestream this week.

The latest edition of the RED Stream will take place tomorrow, May 28th, at 4PM UK time. This is a special anniversary stream for the anniversary of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, hosted by Kacper Niepokólczycki and Magdalena Zych.

Witcher 3 Franchise

CD Projekt Red did also make it clear that originally, it was going to announce the new Witcher 3 expansion tomorrow, during this stream. While earlier rumours about the expansion didn't spook them, they felt like they had to let people know about the expansion early after the company's own games launcher leaked it.

It is unclear if we will get any more information about the expansion during tomorrow's stream, but if it does get mentioned, details are likely to be kept light. CD Projekt Red has already said that it plans to share proper details about it in ‘late Summer'.

It’s official – The Witcher 3 is getting a new expansion

27 May 2026 at 09:13

Over the past few months, we have been hearing rumours that CD Projekt Red is secretly working on a third expansion for The Witcher 3, more than a decade after the game's initial launch. Today, CDPR confirmed exactly that, however, the new expansion, titled ‘Songs of the Past', is still quite some ways off from release.

Sitting at over 60 million copies sold, The Witcher 3 is one of the most critically acclaimed and highest-selling RPGs of all time. Now, almost a decade on from the release of the game's original expansions, CD Projekt Red has a third new story arc on the way, helping to bridge the gap while CDPR gets The Witcher 4 ready.

Unfortunately, we do not yet know much about the Songs of the Past expansion. All we know for now is that we will once again be playing as Geralt, setting off on a “brand new adventure”, developed in collaboration with Fool's Theory. More details about the expansion are expected to drop during ‘late Summer'.

While there is not a final release date yet, CD Projekt Red says the expansion will only be coming to current-gen platforms, including PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and it will release sometime in 2027.

The Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Won’t Fall Into Old Pitfalls, As CDPR Enforces Requirements To Prevent Development Chaos

20 May 2026 at 14:57

A character from 'The Witcher 4' wearing a fur-lined hood with a sword visible on their back.

Coming after what is commonly regarded as one of the finest open-world role-playing games ever made, CD Projekt Red will have to go the extra mile with The Witcher 4 to deliver a game that will meet the high expectations its predecessor has set. Although it was eventually fixed and improved, Cyberpunk 2077's known launch woes are making more than a few worried that the studio's next big adventure will have a similarly troubled release. However, the Polish developer is imposing certain requirements to prevent the same development chaos that affected their previous games. “We've got some new requirements, especially a new […]

The Witcher spin-off ‘Project Sirius’ has a new lead writer

19 May 2026 at 16:30

CD Projekt Red has been working on a mysterious new Witcher spin-off game for quite some time now. We haven't had an update on Project Sirius in a long time but that changed this week, with the writer behind Destiny 2: The Final Shape joining the development team.

Kwan Perng, whose credits include Destiny 2: The Final Shape, Last Epoch and Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons, has joined CD Projekt Red to work on Project Sirius. The game has been in pre-production for years now, but the hiring of a new lead writer indicates that the project is now moving forward into its production phase. If true, CD Projekt Red may confirm this in its next earnings report.

Project Sirius began development in 2021, when CD Projekt Red acquired The Molasses Flood, the studio behind the game ‘The Flame in the Flood'. Since then, the studio has been renamed to CD Projekt Red Boston as part of the company's expansion into the US.

While we don't know a lot about this game yet, it is expected to be a multiplayer co-op title set in The Witcher universe but not necessarily connected to the previous games. It will be developed on Unreal Engine 5, just like The Witcher 4 and other upcoming CDPR games like Cyberpunk 2.

KitGuru Says: Assuming development remains on track with no further reboots or cancellations, then we should finally see Project Sirius within the next few years.

The Blood of the Dawnwalker Dev Is Comfortable With The Witcher Comparisons: “We Have a Really Cool Game”

15 April 2026 at 11:30

A warrior holding a sword stands against a glowing sunset backdrop with the text 'The Blood of Dawnwalker.'

Very early this year, The Blood of the Dawnwalker developer Rebel Wolves confirmed that their debut dark fantasy action RPG would release in 2026. Now, after a few months of silence, the CEO, Game Director, and Co-Founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz has been interviewed on The Game Business Show, revealing that he is comfortable with the widespread comparisons to The Witcher games, especially after the successful focus tests. He also shared that the console versions are already shaping well, and he personally finished the whole game on a PlayStation 5. I'm really comfortable. Cyberpunk 2077 Gets a PS5 Pro Upgrade Tomorrow, Adds PSSR 2.0 Support, Ray Tracing Pro, New Performance Modes and More

If you can believe it, Cyberpunk 2077 is about to get yet another visual improvement, at least for players who power their console gaming with a PS5 Pro. Developer CD Projekt RED's infamous RPG is getting a new update tomorrow, April 8, 2026, specifically around allowing the game to take full advantage of the professional-grade PlayStation, and the additional power that comes with it over a base PS5. A new PlayStation Blog post digs into the numerous enhancements that PS5 Pro owners will be able to take advantage of, including support for PSSR (and yes, it is PSSR 2.0 support), […]

How to Profile Modern PC Games with NVIDIA Nsight Graphics

5 April 2026 at 22:15

A gaming monitor displays various profiling graphs and a gameplay scene using NVIDIA Nsight Graphics, with a colorful backlit keyboard and mouse in front.

PC game performance analysis has become dramatically more complex in the DirectX 12 and Vulkan era. Between asynchronous compute, hardware ray tracing, temporal reconstruction, frame generation, and machine learning-assisted denoising, a modern game’s rendered frame is no longer a simple sequence of rasterized draw calls. If you actually want to understand where your performance is going, you need to move beyond basic performance overlays and into a tool that can expose how work is distributed across the GPU, how shaders behave at runtime, and which stages are truly limiting the frame. That is exactly where programs like NVIDIA Nsight Graphics […]

The Witcher 4’s RTX Mega Geometry Foliage Demo Ran at 4K@80FPS (with DLSS Quality) on a 5090

At GDC 2026, NVIDIA and CD Projekt RED showed a demo of the Polish studio's The Witcher 4 using NVIDIA's RTX Mega Geometry to path trace forests for the first time. Now, NVIDIA has released the full video replay of the GDC 2026 session 'The Future of Path Tracing | Best Practices, Optimizations & Future Standards', which includes lots of interesting details on that The Witcher 4/RTX Mega Geometry demo. Martin Stich, Senior Director of Engineering at NVIDIA, introduced the company's latest work based on Mega Geometry: a level-of-detail system for foliage. He notes that no new APIs or hardware […]

CD Projekt Red establishes ‘Hadar’ as new IP alongside Witcher and Cyberpunk

20 March 2026 at 17:00

At this point, CD Projekt Red has firmly established itself as a multi-IP studio, with both The Witcher and Cyberpunk garnering huge amounts of money. However, CDPR is also hard at work on establishing a third pillar for its gaming efforts, the mysterious Project Hadar.

In a earnings call this week, CD Projekt Red co-CEO, Michał Nowakowski, confirmed that Hadar will be a brand-new IP for the company. After a couple of years of exploratory pre-production work, the company is now confident in the foundation it has in place and is ready to ramp up work on this new mystery franchise.

“We have an important development update regarding our third franchise, Hadar”, Nowakowski said. “Work on the project is progressing dynamically, and the team has established the foundations of this entirely new IP. Now, we have clearly defined distinguishing features of this world, and established key pillars that will not only provide the foundation for the game itself, but also, potentially, for other future products.”

Like The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, Hadar will also be built using CD Projekt Red's custom version of Unreal Engine 5, which has added features that Epic Games is now implementing in the base engine for the wider game development community.

KitGuru Says: It will be interesting to see what Hadar ends up being. For now, only a small team is working on it, with the majority of developers at CD Projekt Red focusing on The Witcher 4, with a second large group of developers working on Cyberpunk 2.

CD Projekt RED Says it has “No Plans for Additional DLCs or Expansions” for Cyberpunk 2077 as we Wait for Rumored Witcher 3 DLC

13 March 2026 at 17:00

A character from Cyberpunk 2077 with long black hair and a cybernetic arm looks downwards in a moment of reflection.

CD Projekt RED, as far as we officially know, is working on The Witcher 4, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, an action RPG codenamed Project Hadar, and a Witcher multiplayer game codenamed Project Sirius. There have been a lot of rumors circulating recently that we're also getting a new DLC expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and while that remains unconfirmed, a lot of signs point to it getting revealed and released this year. What we won't be getting, however, according to CD Projekt RED, is a new expansion or new DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077. Through the official Cyberpunk […]

CD Projekt Red says ‘no plans’ for new Cyberpunk 2077 expansion but remains quiet on The Witcher 3

13 March 2026 at 16:05

While it had a rocky launch, Cyberpunk 2077 went on to become one of the best RPGs of the current generation after the launch of its Phatom Liberty expansion. With Cyberpunk 2 still a long ways off, fans have been hoping for new DLC but unfortunately, it sounds like we are done with Night City for the time being.

In response to a fan question on Twitter/X, CD Projekt Red confirmed it has “no plans” for additional Cyberpunk 2077 expansions.

The idea of ‘secret DLC' is a bit of a touchy subject for CD Projekt Red right now. In recent months, there have been a growing number of rumours claiming that we will see a new expansion for The Witcher 3 this year to bridge the gap between that game and The Witcher 4, which is currently deep into development. While there is no release date yet for the next Witcher game, it is expected to arrive before the end of 2028.

CD Projekt Red has not yet commented on the rumours surrounding a new Witcher expansion.

KitGuru Says: If The Witcher 3 is coming back with a new DLC this year, then I see no reason why the same thing couldn't happen for Cyberpunk 2077 once Cyberpunk 2 is closer to coming out.
