Lofree unveils the Hyzen, the first keyboard to use tactile mechanical-magnetic switches

26 March 2026 at 16:00

Lofree is trying to make its mark in the keyboard market with the Hyzen. This 65% keyboard features a sleek, CNC-cut aluminium chassis that hides a suite of enthusiast-grade internals, most notably a brand-new switch type that claims to bridge the gap between traditional mechanical feel and magnetic performance.

According to TechPowerUP, these new hybrid switches are named Nexus, a co-engineered project between Lofree and Kailh. In what Lofree calls a world first, the Nexus switch combines standard metal contacts and pins for a mechanical typing experience with a TMR (tunnelling magnetoresistance) sensor in the stem. This hybrid approach allows the Hyzen to offer the tactile feedback typists enjoy alongside adjustable actuation, rapid trigger, and analogue input features usually reserved for magnetic gaming boards.

Connectivity is handled by a Nordic nRF54L series MCU, enabling an 8 kHz polling rate in both wired and 2.4 GHz wireless modes. For those who prioritise longevity, the Hyzen packs a massive 10,000 mAh battery, which Lofree claims can provide up to 80 hours of continuous use. The keyboard also features a unique physical toggle that swaps the number row to a function row, accompanied by an LED strip that illuminates to show active function shortcuts.

Additional QoL features include a rear-mounted volume knob and a physical switch for toggling between Bluetooth 5.4, 2.4 GHz, and wired modes. The Hyzen is scheduled to launch on Kickstarter on April 23rd, but early-bird reservations are already open on the Lofree site (until April 22nd). Early bird backers can get the tri-mode wireless version for $189 (vs. a planned $299 MSRP) or the wired-only variant for $169 (vs. a $279 MSRP).

KitGuru says: Hybrid switches that offer the precision of a Hall-Effect gaming board without sacrificing the character of a mechanical switch could usher in a new trend in the keyboard market.Β

AMD is reportedly preparing Ryzen 9750X and 9650X CPUs

19 March 2026 at 10:30

Just one week after Intel unveiled its aggressive Core Ultra 200S Plus desktop refresh, a report has emerged indicating that AMD is preparing a pair of new Zen 5 chips – the Ryzen 7 9750X and Ryzen 5 9650X.

According toΒ chi11eddogΒ (viaΒ VideoCardz), these are not X3D parts, as they maintain the standard 32MB of on-die L3 cache. Still, they represent a shift in AMD's mid-range strategy. By nearly doubling the base TDP from 65W to 120W, AMD is pretty much factory-overclocking its Granite Ridge silicon to compete with Intel's 200S Plus series.

The Ryzen 7 9750X is supposedly an 8-core, 16-thread processor, but it pushes the envelope with a base frequency of 4.2GHz and a maximum boost of 5.6GHz. This is a substantial jump over the original Ryzen 7 9700X, which some have criticised for its conservative 65W power envelope. Similarly, the Ryzen 5 9650X reportedly offers 6 cores and 12 threads with a 4.3GHz base and 5.5GHz boost.

These new variants have not yet been officially announced, so all information should be treated as rumour.

KitGuru says: Would you be interested in a bumped-up version of the Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X?

Asus launches its first ProArt keyboard

20 February 2026 at 09:00

Asus's ProArt series is expanding with its first keyboard. Named ProArt KD300, this is a 65% wireless keyboard that trades the aggressive aesthetic of the ROG line for a sophisticated β€œBlack Aerolite” finish aimed at designers and office professionals.

While similar to the ROG Falchion RX Low Profile, including using the same Asus RX Red optical switches with a 1.0 mm actuation point, the KD300 (via NotebookCheck) relocates the signature touch panel to the rear of the chassis to maintain a clean, distraction-free top plate. This positioning allows for a sleek aluminium top cover while still providing gesture-based controls for volume, brightness, and creative macros through the web-based AsusGear Link interface.

Β

Connectivity-wise, the keyboard supports tri-mode connectivity for up to 5 devices simultaneously via 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and USB-C. To further enhance functionality, Asus has included a dedicated PC/Mac toggle switch and integrated storage for the wireless dongle in its injection-moulded plastic base. The device is powered by a 4,000 mAh battery, which the company claims can last 16 months on a single charge with the backlighting disabled, or around 100 days with the RGB running at full brightness.

The typing experience is designed to be both responsive and quiet, featuring dual layers of integrated silicone-damping foam to absorb the metallic pings often found on compact mechanical boards. Currently, the ProArt KD300 has officially launched in the Chinese market for CNY 999 (approximately Β£107).

KitGuru says: Do you prefer the more understated looks of the KD300 or the gamified aesthetics of the ROG Falchion RX?
