Physical gaming remains strong in regions outside the US

17 August 2026 at 10:30

Sony angered many when they announced that they would stop printing physical game discs come 2028, claiming that a majority of consumers have moved on primarily towards digital downloads. While this is in many ways the case, countries outside of the US still appear to have a strong physical presence – if Resident Evil Requiem sales are anything to go by.

As reported by industry analyst Christopher Dring, Resident Evil Requiem (which has sold a total of 8 million copies so far) achieved a good chunk of its success thanks to physical game sales.

While the US saw a heavy preference away from digital media (accounting for just 22% of sales), other regions were far more split; with the likes of France landing at 55% physical; Japan at 51%; Australia hitting 43% and UK seeing 40% of all RE: Requiem sales purchased in disc form.

Physical Resident

Of course, this is just one game, with Capcom themselves admitting that most of their sales are digital nowadays. Still, this shows that there remains a strong group of consumers who prefer owning their games physically.

It will be interesting to see how the ratio shifts as we get closer to the 2028 deadline imposed by PlayStation.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the disc / digital split? Are you trying to purchase more games physically while you still can? Is the US skewing the general perception? Let us know down below.

Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata continue to deliver strong sales for Capcom

28 July 2026 at 16:30

Capcom has reported another strong quarter, driven by continued sales of Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata. Both titles are performing extremely well, with Requiem surpassing 8 million copies sold and Pragmata reaching the 2.5 million sales milestone.

According to Capcom’s latest financial results, revenues rose significantly year‑on‑year. The publisher recorded around $430 million in net sales for Q1, generating roughly $250 million in operating profit. The company’s overall software sales also saw a major jump, with 23.81 million units sold across new releases and back catalogue titles, up from 14.16 million during the same period last year.

The results indicate that Capcom’s recent releases are performing far better than last year’s slate. Monster Hunter Wilds launched strongly but began to fall down the charts quickly, whereas Requiem and Pragmata have maintained momentum and contributed heavily to the company’s quarterly growth.

Capcom’s outlook for the rest of the year remains strong. Later this year, the company will ship Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, a refreshed version of the game featuring a major expansion, a new region, additional bosses and a wide range of quality‑of‑life improvements that should tempt new players to pick the game up for the first time.

KitGuru Says: Capcom continues to deliver impressive results, and with Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on the horizon, the publisher should close out 2026 strong.

Resident Evil Requiem’s Story DLC Eyes a Late 2027 Release, Arriving Nearly Two Years After the Game Itself Launched

27 July 2026 at 11:00

Leon and Grace from Resident Evil Requiem stand back-to-back in a scene from a video game, while Claire Redfield from Resident Evil Veronica stands on the right.

Renowned CAPCOM leaker Dusk Golem has commented on the publisher's admission that they are too focused on new Resident Evil entries and remakes of older titles to contemplate any kind of spin-offs. According to the leaker, CAPCOM is addressing this gap in their pipeline by producing longer-form story DLCs for Resident Evil games, including Requiem (which launched earlier this year) and Veronica (due sometime next year). However, Dusk Golem also warned fans that these DLCs, being quite big, will take time to materialize. CAPCOM's temporary solution to there being no spin-offs in the works is that they've, in the last […]

Capcom reportedly making ‘ambitious’ story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem

14 July 2026 at 14:00

Capcom previously confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem will receive a story DLC, but no release window has been announced. Now, a new leak suggests fans may be waiting a bit longer than expected.

According to Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem, the Requiem story DLC might be planned for after the release of Resident Evil Veronica, Capcom’s newly announced remake of the classic Code Veronica spin‑off. Veronica is currently targeting a 2027 launch window, likely in Q1 based on Capcom’s usual scheduling. If accurate, this means Requiem’s story DLC may not land until more than a year after the game’s February 2026 launch.

The leaker claims Capcom is investing in larger, more ambitious story expansions for future Resident Evil titles. This longer development cycle could explain the extended wait for Requiem’s DLC and may indicate that the expansion will be bigger than past Resident Evil DLCs, such as Separate Ways or Shadow of Rose.

Capcom hasn't made any official announcements yet, so we don't know how accurate any of this information is. However, the idea of more ambitious DLCs certainly sounds good. Capcom is already doing something similar with other games, like Dragon's Dogma and Monster Hunter.

KitGuru says: Resident Evil Requiem wrapped up two decades worth of history in a very satisfying way. With that in mind, I'm not sure what more a major story expansion could add, but it could be an interesting way for Capcom to bridge the gap to the next era of Resident Evil.

Resident Evil franchise hits new milestone with 200 million units sold

28 May 2026 at 12:00

While it could have been argued that Monster Hunter was quickly becoming Capcom’s flagship franchise, the past few years seem to have cemented Resident Evil as the publisher’s premiere series. In the wake of Resident Evil Requiem’s rapid and ongoing success, Capcom have revealed that the RE franchise has officially exceeded 200 million copies sold.

Taking to their site to update their Platinum Titles list (games which have sold over 1 million copies), Capcom revealed that as of the 31st of March, the latest Resident Evil Requiem managed to sell over 6.9 million copies – immediately putting it as their 15th best-selling game of all time

Of course, RE Requiem only officially released at the tail-end of February, meaning it has likely sold far more since these figures were tallied.

Resident Evil Capcom

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that Requiem’s launch helped push the Resident Evil franchise as a whole past 200 million copies sold. This puts it easily as Capcom’s biggest franchise, with second place going to Monster Hunter at 127 million copies sold.

Speaking of, Monster Hunter Wilds seems to still be struggling in the wake of its explosive launch period, selling just 400k units during the past quarter (the same as MH Rise) for a total of 11.4 million copies sold.

With RE Requiem continuing to push units and rumours claiming that many more Resident Evil games are in the works, it won’t be long before the series reaches the big 250.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Capcom’s recent performance? Did you expect Monster Hunter Wilds sales to fall off a cliff like it has? Let us know down below.

CAPCOM Drops Surprise Resident Evil Requiem Demo on Every Platform, but Your Progress Won’t Carry Over

27 May 2026 at 08:00

A promotional image for 'Resident Evil: Requiem Demo' featuring a character holding a flashlight in the rain.

This morning, Japanese developer and publisher CAPCOM surprisingly released a free Resident Evil Requiem demo on all platforms: PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and Nintendo Switch 2. The demo allows players to play "part of the game’s early stages", according to CAPCOM. However, unlike recent demos for other games, the save data won't carry over to the full game for those users who choose to purchase it afterward. This means they'll have to retread those parts of the game they have already gone through in the Resident Evil Requiem demo. Resident Evil […]

Resident Evil Requiem gets free demo on PC and consoles

27 May 2026 at 13:00

Resident Evil Requiem has already been one of the highest-rated and highest-selling games of the year. Now, Capcom is giving fans the chance to try it out for free through a new demo.

The Resident Evil Requiem demo is now available for all platforms, including PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, alongside consoles like the Switch 2, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The demo gives fans a chance to play the “early stages” of the campaign, although those who opt to play the demo will not be able to bring their save data forward into the full game, so if you do jump in, just know that you will need to start over again when you buy the game.

Capcom has offered demos for many of its major titles in recent years, usually offering between 30 minutes and an hour of game time.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: We don't know exactly where in the campaign the demo ends but if you've been interested in Resident Evil Requiem and want to try before you buy, this is the best way.

Leon Must Die Forever is the first DLC for Resident Evil Requiem

8 May 2026 at 14:00

Recently, Capcom teased that Resident Evil Requiem would be getting DLC soon. Now just as promised, that DLC has been announced, bringing a new mode to the game titled Leon Must Die Forever.

Players can unlock Leon Must Die Forever by completing the main Resident Evil Requiem campaign. Once that is done, you can play this new fast-paced action mode with Leon, where you must make it to the end of the level alive and take down a boss within a time limit.

Leon Must Die Forever is a separate mode to the main story. However, the development team is also working on new story content as well, which will likely be paid DLC, rather than a free update.

KitGuru Says: Will you be loading Resident Evil Requiem back up to try out this new game mode?

Resident Evil Requiem Datamine Exposes Investigation Mechanics, and Deeper Leon-Grace Interplay CAPCOM Cut Alongside Chapter 2

7 May 2026 at 15:12

Leon from Resident Evil Requiem game series is looking intently while holding onto a metal bar in a dimly lit environment.

In terms of scope, Resident Evil Requiem is not much different from its predecessors, but it seems like CAPCOM had to rein in the game's ambition at some point during development. Besides scrapping a Chapter 2, the development team seems to have done away with plenty of other features and mechanics, including investigation mechanics and systems that suggest there would be more interplay between the Grace and Leon segments. As reported by Dusk Golem on X, dataminers recently took a good look at the game's files and have made some very interesting discoveries. Among the scrapped features discovered are: While […]

Capcom raises profit forecast as Resident Evil Requiem beats expectations

28 April 2026 at 15:00

Resident Evil Requiem is due to get its first piece of DLC very soon. The new content will land at a perfect time, as Capcom just raised its profit forecast thanks to continued strong sales of the game.

In a newly-released financial statement, Capcom said that Resident Evil Requiem's 7-million sales milestone has pushed its financials up for the year, with the company now set to “outperform the previously announced forecast”.

This would mean that Resident Evil Requiem has beaten Capcom's predictions. The company now expects to earn around $320 million in net profit, a near 7% increase from its previous forecast.

Resident Evil Requiem wasn't the only money maker here though. Capcom also noted favourable performance for its Arcade business, amusement equipment business and other areas of operation.

KitGuru Says: If Dragon's Dogma 2 also gets a big ‘Arisen' style upgrade this year, then Capcom will have a spectacularly strong 2026.

Resident Evil Requiem has already sold 7 million copies

27 April 2026 at 14:30

Resident Evil Requiem has officially surpassed 7 million copies sold since its debut just last month. This marks a significant jump from the 6 million tally reported in mid-April, further cementing its status as a titan of the horror genre.

The game has been a record-breaker from the jump, having moved 5 million units in its first five days, making it the fastest-selling entry in the history of the Resident Evil franchise. To commemorate this milestone, director Koshi Nakanishi took to Instagram to share a look at the studio's festivities, which featured two massive, custom-themed cakes dedicated to the game's protagonists.

The celebration was split between the game's lead duo, Leon S. Kennedy and newcomer Grace Ashcroft. The Leon-themed cake sported a black-iced finish, was adorned with fresh blueberries and raspberries, and was topped with a figure of Leon holding a pistol and a hatchet. In contrast, the Grace Ashcroft cake opted for a cleaner white frosting, with a sculpted zombie hand bursting through. Messages on the cakes read “Welcome to 7m Leon!” and “Grace Congratulations on 7 million!”.

The momentum isn't slowing down for fans, either, with a content update slated for release next month. Beyond that, a story DLC is confirmed to be in development, but not ready for release in the immediate future.

KitGuru says: Are you among those who bought Resident Evil Requiem? Between the Leon's and Grace's path, which of the two gameplay styles have you found yourself gravitating toward more during your time in the game?

You still have a few days left to play the Hitman Patient Zero Requiem elusive target DLC for free

19 March 2026 at 16:00

IO Interactive is hard at work getting 007 First Light ready for launch, but that doesn't mean that work on Hitman has stopped. The latest Elusive Target for Hitman: World of Assassination has dropped, capitalising on the recent success of Resident Evil by adding Milla Jovovich to the game in a new custom mission.

Fans of Resident Evil who have watched the films will already be very familiar with Milla Jovovich. She makes a new appearance in Hitman this month with a new elusive target mission, available to play until the 24th of March across all of the game's platforms.

The elusive target mission, which first became available to play in late February alongside the release of Resident Evil Requiem, has gone on to become a fan favourite. IO Interactive says it is one of the most-played elusive targets, with players splitting their time pretty evenly across multiple strategies. Around 34% of players went for the direct containment strategy, using injectable vaccines to cure the virus, while around 36% of players opted to go down the darker path by exhuming Alexa Carlisle. Around 23% of players opted to neutralise Lilith Devereux early to prevent the virus from escalating, and another 21% of players managed to obtain the Silent Assassin rating through careful mission planning and execution.

If you want to keep the Patient Zero Requiem content forever, then you still have time to buy the DLC pack. Otherwise, you have until the 24th of March to play it for free. As always, new Hitman elusive targets are available to play across all platforms, from Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PS5, to PC, Mac and VR devices.

KitGuru Says: Have you been keeping up with the Hitman elusive target missions? There have been some very interesting ones over the past six months, so I highly recommend jumping in if you're down for a bit of puzzle solving and stealthy gameplay.

Nvidia announces DLSS 5 with real-time neural rendering

16 March 2026 at 19:00

At GTC this week, Nvidia has announced DLSS 5, the next major evolution of its AI‑powered rendering technology. The company says the update marks a shift toward real‑time neural rendering, aiming to push game visuals closer to cinematic lighting and material detail. Better yet, DLSS 5 will be launching later this year.

DLSS 5 introduces a new AI model that analyses colour and motion vectors in each frame, then reconstructs lighting, materials and fine detail with greater accuracy. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang described the moment as a major turning point for graphics, saying: “Twenty‑five years after NVIDIA invented the programmable shader, we are reinventing computer graphics once again. DLSS 5 is the GPT moment for graphics”.

The model has been trained to understand scene semantics such as characters, hair, fabric, skin translucency and environmental lighting. Nvidia says this allows DLSS 5 to generate deterministic, consistent frames suitable for interactive play, running in real time at up to 4K. Integration uses the existing Streamline framework shared by DLSS and Reflex.

In the comparison image above, you can get a preview of what DLSS 5 is capable of in Resident Evil Requiem, having a rather stark effect on the Grace character model.

Game developers will also gain new creative controls, including intensity, colour grading and masking options. So while AI will be doing some heavier lifting on the graphics and visuals, the developers themselves will still have sliders and toggles to control the impact of the effects and where they show up to avoid overriding the original art director's vision.

Early partners are already testing the tech. Bethesda’s Todd Howard said: “When NVIDIA showed us DLSS 5 and we got it running in Starfield, it was amazing how it brought it to life. We’ve played it. We can’t wait for all of you to do so as well.”

Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi highlighted similar benefits for atmospheric titles, saying: “DLSS 5 represents another important step in pushing visual fidelity forward, helping players become even more immersed in the world of Resident Evil.”

DLSS 5 will be supported by major publishers including Bethesda, Capcom, Ubisoft, Tencent and WB Games. Confirmed titles include Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Phantom Blade Zero, Resident Evil Requiem, Starfield, Oblivion Remastered, Hogwarts Legacy and there are still more to be announced.

KitGuru Says: Typically, Nvidia ushers in a new major DLSS revision alongside a new generation of GeForce graphics cards. This time though, it looks like DLSS 5 will be coming to current-generation GPUs.

Resident Evil Requiem surpasses six million copies sold

16 March 2026 at 13:00

Resident Evil Requiem, the last entry in the ‘Winters Saga' launched to wide critical and fan acclaim at the end of February, shifting 5 million copies during its launch week alone. Now a couple of weeks later, Capcom has announced that the game has reached a new milestone.

As of this week, Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) has sold over six million copies worldwide across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. On top of that, later this week Capcom will be celebrating the series' 30th anniversary on the 22nd of March with new announcements, including a collaboration between Resident Evil and Universal Studios Japan.

The Resident Evil 30th Anniversary celebrations are also expected to include a series of orchestral concerts across Europe, Japan and the US.

With Resident Evil Requiem surpassing six million copies sold in its first few weeks, it is comfortably outpacing the recent Remake games, including Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake, all of which garnered around or under 4 million sales during their first month on the market.

The direct prequel to Resident Evil Requiem, 2022's Resident Evil Village, sold around 4.5 million copies during its first two months on the market. In all, Capcom has to be pleased with how this final entry is doing.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Resident Evil Requiem finally masters the blend of action and horror, bringing the styles of Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7 together into one fantastic adventure. The formula seems to have resonated, so fans will no doubt hope to see it return when it is time to bring out Resident Evil 10.
