Assassin’s Creed hits new milestone with over 250 million copies sold

13 July 2026 at 11:00

While sentiment surrounding the franchise can vary from release-to-release, the Assassin’s Creed series remains one of Ubisoft’s biggest and most successful. In the wake of the long-awaited launch of AC Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft have now confirmed that Assassin’s Creed as a franchise has sold over 250 million copies.

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at Ubisoft shared initial sales figures for the recently-released Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced remake – confirming that over 2 million units were sold in the first 24 hours.

This is but the cherry on top however, with the publisher now revealing that “since it first launched in 2007, the Assassin's Creed series has sold more than 250 million games worldwide.”

According to the company, this puts AC as “one of the best-selling series in video game history”. While sales data in the video games space remains rather elusive, based on what is known, Assassin’s Creed is currently the 8th best-selling franchise of all time – surpassing the likes of Final Fantasy (212 million), Resident Evil (201 million) and NBA 2K (173 million).

250 MILLION UBISOFT

Breaking down the growth of the Assassin’s Creed franchise over the years, we can see that 20 million copies of various AC titles were sold in the past 10 months – with the full timeline being as follows:

  • 2010: 20M
  • 2014: 73M
  • 2016: 100M
  • 2019: 140M
  • 2020: 155M
  • 2022: 200M
  • 2025: 230M
  • 2026: 250M

Love it or hate it, the Assassin’s Creed franchise continues to be a core pillar for Ubisoft. It will be interesting to see just how many copies Black Flag Resynced manages to push as time goes on.

Frontier files trademarks for new Planet series game

15 June 2026 at 16:00

Frontier Developments has confirmed development of a brand-new franchise within its “Planet” management simulation series. Revealed via a Discord post by head of player engagement Richard Stephenson, the upcoming title introduces an entirely new setting distinct from Planet Coaster or Planet Zoo while maintaining the series' core creative and simulation mechanics.

Shared on Reddit (via Rock Paper Shotgun), Stephenson's post stated that the unannounced project has all the familiarity players love but moves into a completely new environment for the studio. It's unclear what the theme of this new series is, but the developer's newly filed trademarks give us an idea of where it wants to go next.

Frontier filed nine new trademarks, including Planet Resort, Planet Festival, Planet Farm, Planet Vacation, Planet Dinosaur, Planet Prehistoric, Planet Fantasy, Planet Mythical Creatures, and Planet Dragon. Some of these might simply protect the company from competition.

The developer's release schedule historically leaves a gap between major entries, with Planet Zoo 2 launching later this year. As such, it might take a while before we learn what new Planet series will come from Frontier.

KitGuru says: Of all the trademarks filed, which ones are the most likely to be the next major series from Frontier?

Resident Evil franchise hits new milestone with 200 million units sold

28 May 2026 at 12:00

While it could have been argued that Monster Hunter was quickly becoming Capcom’s flagship franchise, the past few years seem to have cemented Resident Evil as the publisher’s premiere series. In the wake of Resident Evil Requiem’s rapid and ongoing success, Capcom have revealed that the RE franchise has officially exceeded 200 million copies sold.

Taking to their site to update their Platinum Titles list (games which have sold over 1 million copies), Capcom revealed that as of the 31st of March, the latest Resident Evil Requiem managed to sell over 6.9 million copies – immediately putting it as their 15th best-selling game of all time

Of course, RE Requiem only officially released at the tail-end of February, meaning it has likely sold far more since these figures were tallied.

Resident Evil Capcom

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that Requiem’s launch helped push the Resident Evil franchise as a whole past 200 million copies sold. This puts it easily as Capcom’s biggest franchise, with second place going to Monster Hunter at 127 million copies sold.

Speaking of, Monster Hunter Wilds seems to still be struggling in the wake of its explosive launch period, selling just 400k units during the past quarter (the same as MH Rise) for a total of 11.4 million copies sold.

With RE Requiem continuing to push units and rumours claiming that many more Resident Evil games are in the works, it won’t be long before the series reaches the big 250.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Capcom’s recent performance? Did you expect Monster Hunter Wilds sales to fall off a cliff like it has? Let us know down below.

God of War Universe to Expand with New Franchise (Cory Barlog’s New Game)

1 March 2026 at 09:30

Three mythological characters with ornate armor and staffs appear alongside the 'God of War' logo, with a PlayStation logo

It looks like the secret is finally out of the bag: Cory Barlog's "new" IP, previously rumored to be sci-fi-themed, is actually an expansion of the existing God of War universe with a new franchise. The confirmation came from a LinkedIn profile (spotted on the ResetEra board) of a Senior Writer who worked remotely at Sony Santa Monica between August 2020 and September 2025, writing on their resume: Helped shape narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed […]
