Resident Evil franchise hits new milestone with 200 million units sold

28 May 2026 at 12:00

While it could have been argued that Monster Hunter was quickly becoming Capcom’s flagship franchise, the past few years seem to have cemented Resident Evil as the publisher’s premiere series. In the wake of Resident Evil Requiem’s rapid and ongoing success, Capcom have revealed that the RE franchise has officially exceeded 200 million copies sold.

Taking to their site to update their Platinum Titles list (games which have sold over 1 million copies), Capcom revealed that as of the 31st of March, the latest Resident Evil Requiem managed to sell over 6.9 million copies – immediately putting it as their 15th best-selling game of all time

Of course, RE Requiem only officially released at the tail-end of February, meaning it has likely sold far more since these figures were tallied.

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that Requiem’s launch helped push the Resident Evil franchise as a whole past 200 million copies sold. This puts it easily as Capcom’s biggest franchise, with second place going to Monster Hunter at 127 million copies sold.

Speaking of, Monster Hunter Wilds seems to still be struggling in the wake of its explosive launch period, selling just 400k units during the past quarter (the same as MH Rise) for a total of 11.4 million copies sold.

With RE Requiem continuing to push units and rumours claiming that many more Resident Evil games are in the works, it won’t be long before the series reaches the big 250.

Resident Evil Requiem expansion confirmed alongside photo mode, new mini-games and more

11 March 2026 at 09:00

Resident Evil Requiem has had a massive launch so far, with the highly-anticipated title racing past 5 million copies sold within less than a week. Already a highly celebrated game, Resident Evil Requiem is set to get even better with future updates, a new story expansion DLC and more now being confirmed.

Releasing a video message, the director for Resident Evil Requiem – Koshi Nakanishi – reiterated the fact that the game has sold over 5 million copies while thanking fans for their support.

Far more interestingly however, Nakanishi spoke on the future of Requiem moving forward, revealing that alongside continued bug fixes and optimisations the game will soon get a photo mode and new mini-game, with “another surprise coming around May.”

Resident Evil Expansion

Last but certainly not least, Nakanishi confirmed that DLC is already being worked on, with a ‘Story Expansion’ officially now in development. Details on the DLC is of course being kept vague, however players will be delving “deeper into the world of Requiem.”

All that said, the expansion is still a ways away, with Capcom asking fans for their “patience”. Fortunately, it seems the team will have plenty of ancillary updates and additions coming in the meantime.

Resident Evil Requiem has been receiving near-universal acclaim across the board and so assuming Capcom are able to maintain this level of quality for the expansion then fans still have plenty to look forward to.

Resident Evil Requiem has officially sold over 5 million copies already

4 March 2026 at 13:15

In many ways, Resident Evil Requiem serves as a culmination of Capcom’s long-running franchise, with the latest entry bringing back fan-favourite characters in an experience which some have described as a continuation of Capcom’s “unbelievable run of excellence”. Despite only being out for less than a week so far, Capcom have confirmed that Resident Evil Requiem has already sold over 5 million copies,

Making the announcement via a press release, the team at Capcom revealed that “worldwide sales of Resident Evil Requiem, released on February 27, 2026, surpassed 5 million units.”

This achievement is even more impressive considering the fact that Requiem is exclusive to current-gen platforms – the first entry in the series to be locked to modern hardware. Of course, between the PS5, Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC, there are well over 100 million potential customers.

Resident Evil million

Even so, Requiem’s rapid success is notable, already putting it as the 19th best-selling Capcom game of all time, right above the original RE2 (4.96 million units).

Of course, Requiem still has quite the journey to go on if it wants to reach the upper-echelon of Capcom sales, with the best-selling entry in the series being Resident Evil 2’s Remake (currently at 16.8 million copies).

Regardless, with the game receiving near-universal acclaim and going on to sell over 5 million copies in its first few days, it’s safe to say that Resident Evil Requiem is another major success for Capcom.
