Claude AI Wrote A Driver For macOS From Scratch To Enable Compatibility With An HP Printer That Was Only Meant To Work With Windows

18 August 2026 at 13:14

Claude AI was used to write a macOS driver so that it would work with an HP printer

HP’s Laser printer lineup utilizes a proprietary protocol that prevents these machines from working with macOS and can only be exclusively compatible with the Windows platform. Obviously, you cannot stick with the same operating system forever, so a developer found a way around this limitation by using Claude AI to develop a macOS driver and ensure that compatibility becomes a non-issue. The Laser series never had macOS drivers to begin with, but AI successfully scaled what would have been an impenetrable obstacle a few years ago The image shared by Kuber up top appears to show an HP Laser 1008a, […]

Apple Arcade exclusive β€˜Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls’ is being delisted

18 August 2026 at 10:30

Apple Arcade has over the years amassed a strong line-up of high quality and original games, developing exclusives based on popular IPs such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Katamari and Castlevania. Unfortunately, as is the case with all subscription services, titles enter and leave on a somewhat consistent basis. One such exclusive is Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls – a unique multi-layered platformer with RPG and PvP elements. Released back in 2021, the game is unfortunately being officially delisted later this week.

Taking to its website to make the announcement, Konami officially confirmed that Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will soon no longer be playable in any form, writing:

β€œThank you for playing Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls. Since its launch on Apple Arcade in September 2021, the game has continued to be supported by many players. However, we have decided to terminate the service on September 3, 2026 (PDT)”, No reason was given for its termination.

While you are unlikely to have enough time to check the game out before its removal, Konami has given a slight heads-up, confirming that Grimoire of Souls will be delisted on the 20th of August, followed up by complete β€œservice termination” come the 3rd of September.

Apple Arcade Castlevania

For the uninitiated, Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls first launched in 2019 as a free-to-play game on iOS and Android. Limited to Canada at the time, the game would ultimately be shut down and delisted in 2020 – coming back one year later as an Apple Arcade exclusive free of any microtransactions.

It is worth noting that over the years, some ex-Apple Arcade exclusives have found their way onto other platforms, with the likes of Exit the Gungeon; Shinsekai: Into the Depths and Assemble With Care eventually coming to PCs and consoles. Whether Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls will follow a similar pattern, we will have to wait and see.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Apple Arcade? Has it been a net positive or negative to the industry? Which exclusives are you still waiting to be ported to other systems? Let us know down below.

An Intel-Powered MacBook Pro Owner Reduced the Radeon Pro 5300M’s Idle GPU Power Draw By Nearly 80% By Creating An Open-Source Utility To Make A Custom 48Hz Refresh Rate

15 August 2026 at 15:22

An open-source utility was used to drop idle GPU power draw by 80 percent on an Intel-powered MacBook Pro

Older-generation MacBook Pro models featuring Intel’s power-hungry CPUs are still being used by the masses despite the Apple Silicon revolution, but it’s not like these machines are operating without migraine-inducing behavior. In fact, thermals continue to be one of the biggest gripes on these models, but one owner successfully managed to reduce the GPU’s idle power draw by nearly 80 percent thanks to installing an open-source utility that reduces the refresh rate down to 48Hz. The Intel-powered MacBook Pro was running Windows Boot Camp, which doesn’t allow a 48Hz mode by default, forcing the owner to make a custom mode […]

A Developer Made A Frame Generation App For Mac To Broaden The Gaming Experience, But AMD FSR 1 Implementation And Other Trade-Offs Produces Subpar Results

6 August 2026 at 11:58

A developer made a Frame Generation app for the Mac, but it has some problems

Apple’s macOS Tahoe introduces native support for MetalFX Frame Interpolation, but when it comes to adopting the technology in older and newer titles, that’s still a dream that we haven’t woken up from. Fortunately, an independent developer has taken matters into his own hands through Adrenaline, his own frame generation tool for the Mac. However, to say that this is a polished release would be far from the truth, as the use of AMD’s FSR 1 makes the experience less than stellar. The plus point of using Adrenaline for generating frames on a Mac is that it doesn’t require modifying […]

Former Microsoft dev brings Windows Task Manager to Mac

2 August 2026 at 13:00

Original Windows Task Manager developer Dave W. Plummer has revealed a new macOS port of the classic system utility. Currently in beta, the Mac version, named Task Manager OG (TMOG), aims to offer an alternative to Apple's native Activity Monitor.

Plummer (via Tom's Hardware) shared details and screenshots of the project on social media, asserting that macOS's Activity Monitor isn't that good when explaining his motivation for porting the tool. He noted that the original Windows Task Manager launched as an 80KB utility under his development. In contrast, this new Mac iteration is written in Swift and contains no original or post-Windows XP code.

Addressing potential concerns surrounding Microsoft code ownership, Plummer confirmed that Microsoft graciously sent him the XP Task Manager source code with permission to demo and share it. However, the macOS version is built entirely from scratch.

He intended to release the utility for free on the Mac App Store during its beta phase, but ended up launching it via direct download from the project's website. The reason is that Apple's sandbox requirements make it impossible for the application to access the functions it needs. Moreover, Apple states that no app should be able to terminate other applications.

Plummer also added that it will eventually release a Windows version of TMOG, and a Pro version may also come in the future.

KitGuru says: Do you have a macOS system? Will you be trying out Plummer's Task Manager for Mac?

AMD Says MacBook Neo Can’t Run All Your Games While Ryzen-Based Laptops Can

13 June 2026 at 18:12

An AMD laptop featuring multiple game tiles, including 'Silksong' and 'Civilization VII,' is shown alongside text stating, 'Play the top games. All of them,' with graphics indicating all top 20 PC games run on AMD natively, compared to five on MacBook Neo.

It's a weird comparison AMD made, but here we are, back at the Windows vs Mac debate that nobody needed. AMD Taunts Apple's MacBook Neo Over Gaming, Boasting Ryzen Laptops Run 20 of 20 Titles While Mac Manages Only 5 Windows vs. macOS debate seems never-ending, but it's surprising when it comes from one of the major chip manufacturers. AMD suddenly woke up and posted new marketing material that advertised Ryzen capabilities while taking a jab at the cost-effective MacBook Neo. Instead of directly comparing operating systems, AMD compared its Ryzen-based laptops with a macOS-based device, which is somewhat like […]
