SEGA’s Crazy Taxi: World Tour Revives the Arcade Classic, Yet Its Craziest Missions May Top The 1999 Original

9 September 2026 at 16:30

A vibrant taxi car with blue and orange flames drives under a large airplane on a runway, with 'TAXI' displayed above the vehicle.

While it has become a successful third-party publisher, SEGA was once known for releasing gaming systems to rival Nintendo. Following the successful Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive, as it was known outside North America), the Japanese company released the unsuccessful Saturn and the even more unlucky Dreamcast, whose innovative features for the time weren't enough to garner the massive third-party support the system would have needed to rival the PlayStation 2, which dominated the console market in the early 2000s. The Dreamcast's lack of success wasn't caused by the quality of its first-party games. Besides Sonic Adventure, it was the […]

Some major publishers are not yet supporting Xbox disc to digital feature

8 September 2026 at 15:00

Microsoft’s disc‑to‑digital program launched at the end of August with support for thousands of Xbox One and Xbox Series X titles. However, as players have begun testing the feature, it has become clear that a number of major publishers are not participating yet.

As spotted by fans on Reddit, several Square Enix, Ubisoft and SEGA titles currently do not support disc‑to‑digital. This is somewhat surprising, as these same publishers already participate in Xbox Play Anywhere, which grants digital PC licences for certain titles when purchased digitally on Xbox and vice-versa.

At present, this means major releases like Final Fantasy XVI and Assassin’s Creed Shadows can't benefit from the new system. Disc‑to‑digital is designed to encourage players to keep their physical collections while still gaining the convenience of digital access, so these omissions stand out more than expected.

Microsoft still needs to obtain approvals on a per‑game basis, so the initial rollout covering a couple of thousand titles is already a substantial start. More games are expected to be added over time, and it would make sense for new releases to be prioritised as publishers become more familiar with the programme.

KitGuru Says: Disc‑to‑digital launched with impressive support, but it will take time for every publisher to get on board. Hopefully we’ll see these gaps filled as Microsoft continues to expand the programme. It took nearly a decade to widen support for Play Anywhere, but hopefully that won't be the case for disc-to-digital.

Persona 4 Revival Makes Maxing Social Links Easier Than Golden, But Producer Warns It’s Still No Cakewalk – Interview

7 September 2026 at 16:24

A character from 'Persona 4 Revival' stands with a raised sword against a bright, glowing background.

Following my 1-hour long hands-on session with Persona 4 Revival, which immediately brought me back to 2012 when I first played Persona 4 Golden, I had the chance to sit down with Persona series general producer Kazuhisa Wada and art director Akane Kobayashi to talk about the upcoming remake, focusing on the new mechanics and the improvements it will bring to the original PlayStation Vita game. You can find our full conversation below. Note: The interview was conducted via an interpreter and has been edited for clarity. Q: Persona 3 Reload was very faithful to the original game. Is Persona […]

Persona 4 Revival Feels Like 2012 All Over Again, As Atlus Enhances Rather Than Overhauls The Classic

7 September 2026 at 15:12

A scene from the game Persona 4 shows a character wielding a sword against a vibrant backdrop with the text 'THE HERO!' displayed prominently.

Although the Persona 2 games remain my favorite entries in the series, I have a really soft spot for Persona 4. As such, I couldn't be more excited for Persona 4 Revival, which will bring back Yu Narukami, the rest of the gang, and the mystery behind the Midnight Channel to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on February 18, 2027. While the game is set to be extremely faithful to Persona 4 Golden, I was still very excited by the opportunity offered by SEGA and Atlus to try it out during gamescom 2026. Though short, my 1-hour-long session […]

Sega cancelled ‘Super Game’ project due to ‘risky’ live service model

7 September 2026 at 14:00

Sega’s long‑running ‘Super Game’ project has been quietly cancelled, but now we’re starting to get a clearer picture of why the publisher decided to walk away from it. Essentially – live service games cost too much to make

Back in 2021, Sega announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to explore Azure cloud technology for a new large‑scale game. Earlier this year, Sega confirmed that the Super Game had been cancelled, ending several years of speculation around what the project might have been.

SEGA Playable

In a newly published interview with Nikkei, Sega president Shuji Utsumi explained that the Super Game was intended to be a major live‑service title built around a new IP. The idea was to create something that could scale globally, but as development progressed, Sega realised the investment required would grow far beyond what the company was comfortable with. As Utsumi put it, the financial risk simply became too high.

Utsumi added that Games as a Service remains an important area for Sega, and that the company still sees an opportunity to build a large‑scale live‑service title from scratch. However, given the current state of the industry and the rising cost of long‑term operations, Sega determined that pushing ahead with Super Game wasn’t viable at this time.

While the Super Game project won’t be moving forward, Sega does still have several live‑service projects in active development. Creative Assembly is working on Total War: Warhammer 40,000, and at other studios, Sega has Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis continuing to receive updates, and Sega Football Club Champions is also a high seller each year.

KitGuru Says: We've seen billions of dollars and years of development time wasted on short-lived live service games in recent years. Considering how fiercely public perception has turned against overly ambitious and expensive multiplayer games, I think Sega changed its mind on this at the right time.

ATLUS explains why it recast everyone in Persona 4 Revival

1 September 2026 at 10:30

Set to arrive early next year, there is a great deal of hype and excitement surrounding ATLUS’s upcoming Personal 4 Revival remake. While much of what has been shown so far appears positive, fans have expressed disappointment with the announcement that the entire English voice cast have been replaced. Justifying the decision, ATLUS have now explained why.

Taking part in an interview with the publication GamesRadar+ during Gamescom 2026, Persona producer Kazuhisa Wada explained why the studio opted to replace the English cast for this remake, stating (via a translator):

“The original game was originally recorded for the English cast, specifically, a long, long time ago” adding that many “are no longer in the industry” or were “really hard to lock down” due to their risen popularity.

Wada continued, “So we realized we can't re-gather that whole cast. So we're like, ‘OK, I guess we have to kind of once again roll up our sleeves. Alright, let's start over. Let's get a whole new cast in and let's do our best.’”

ATLUS Persona

For the uninitiated, Persona 4 Golden featured many high profile voice actors, including but not limited to Yuri Lowenthal; Troy Baker and Laura Bailey.

While it was disappointing to hear that the original cast wouldn’t be returning to P4’s revival, the explanation does make a great deal of sense. Hopefully the new voice actors are able to capture the spirit of these characters.

Gamescom 2026 closed out its most decorated edition yet by handing out 19 official awards to the best games shown this year at the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. CD Projekt Red and SEGA each walked away with three trophies apiece at the 2026 gamescom awards, presented across 19 categories at the gamescom studio powered by IGN. Following a regional test, Rovio’s Sonic Blitz is being discontinued

24 August 2026 at 10:30

Back in 2023, amongst the many different mergers and acquisitions seen throughout the video games industry, SEGA announced that it had purchased the studio behind the mobile classic Angry Birds ‘Rovio’. Positioned as a way to get the publisher deeper into the mobile gaming space, this strategy does not seem to be paying off, with the TCG Sonic Blitz being discontinued ahead of its expected global release.

Back during the Summer of 2025, SEGA announced that it was developing a Sonic-themed digital trading card game called Sonic Blitz.

Seemingly inspired by the likes of Marvel Snap, the game was said to be drawing “on the rich roster of characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog universe to create a diverse pool of cards that players can collect, upgrade, and assemble into strategic decks to take on opponents in fast-paced one-on-one battles that unfold in a matter of minutes.”

Initially, Sonic Blitz saw a limited release, being available in regions such as the Philippines – with SEGA claiming at the time that “the Sonic Blitz developers will be actively looking into the game’s metrics and performance to determine its potential for a future global launch.”

Sonic Blitz Rovio

In a somewhat unexpected move, SEGA has indeed opted not to go ahead with its global launch, as the team have now taken to their official Discord server to write:

“After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue development of Sonic Blitz. This decision is part of broader changes at our studio, and it means that the game will not move forward beyond the soft-launch phase.”

Unfortunately, those who did enjoy the game won’t have much time left to play it, with Sonic Blitz officially being inaccessible from the 24th of August; at which point the team’s social pages will also be closed down.

So far, SEGA’s investment in Rovio has yielded few successes. Hopefully the studio is able to find a comfortable spot within SEGA’s wider structure. The full statement from the Sonic Blitz team can be found HERE.

SEGA announces surprise Golden Axe animated show coming to Paramount+

21 August 2026 at 11:30

Ever since the successful revival of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, SEGA has been working to bring back many of its classic and long-forgotten IPs. One such series is Golden Axe, whose return was confirmed back in 2023. Alongside the upcoming game however, an animated TV show has now been announced for Paramount+.

Releasing an official trailer, SEGA / Paramount announced Golden Axe – an animated show based on the 1989 side-scrolling beat ‘em up. Set to debut on Paramount+ in a few weeks’ time on the 16th of September, Golden Axe appears to be surprisingly competent, featuring solid animation, distinct characters and a clear plot.

The show is being co-created by Mike McMahan and Joe Chandler who are known for working on a variety of adult animated series including Star Trek: Lower Decks; American Dad and Solar Opposites, meaning it will likely include plenty of meta and self-deprecating humour.

While what little we saw of the upcoming game itself did not ignite much excitement, this Golden Axe show does show plenty of promise. The synopsis for the series reads as follows:

“Golden Axe follows legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they reunite to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder, who just won't seem to stay dead. Their quest is complicated by Hampton Squib, an inexperienced and wildly underprepared adventurer whose dream of heroism far exceeds his abilities. Forced to work together despite their flaws, they must find a way to stop Death Adder once and for all.”

KitGuru says: What do you think of the trailer? Will you check the show out? Is this a smart way for SEGA to bring back older franchises? Let us know down below.

Sonic Frontiers hits new milestone with 5 million copies sold

14 August 2026 at 11:00

There was once a time when we would see new Sonic the Hedgehog games on nearly an annual basis. While some of these titles proved to be critical and commercial successes, fans were unfortunately treated to an equal number of rushed and disappointing releases. With the arrival of Sonic Frontiers back in 2022 however, the team at SEGA appeared to be putting more time and care into each release – a strategy which seems to be paying off.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Sonic the Hedgehog page wrote: “We've Found Our Flame – and it's you! Thank you for helping Sonic Frontiers surpass 5 MILLION copies sold! To celebrate, the iconic Sonic Adventure 2 Shoes are now available to all players. Enjoy!”

While the classic SA2 shoes were already available in-game, access was previously limited to those who signed up for SEGA’s newsletter back during the game’s promotional period prior to launch. Though a small gesture, it is nice to see all other owners now being given the cosmetic.

Sonic Frontiers SEGA

While SEGA is rather temperamental when it comes to sharing sales data for its Sonic games, Frontiers appears to be one of the most successful in years, with fan favourites such as Sonic Unleashed, Colours and Mania reportedly landing in the 1-2 million range.

Additionally, Sonic Frontiers was made available as part of PlayStation Plus for a time, meaning the total number of players has likely far exceeded the 5 million sales figure.

Sonic Frontiers was far from perfect. That said, the game did offer a solid foundation with which SEGA could build upon for future titles. It will be interesting to see what’s in store for the next mainline Sonic the Hedgehog game.

KitGuru says: What did you think of Sonic Frontiers? Was the open zone formula a step forwards or backwards for the franchise? What’s your favourite 3D Sonic game of all time? Let us know down below.

Persona 4 Revival Producer Wants Atlus To Remake The First Two Games, But The Original Design Makes It A Nightmare

11 August 2026 at 09:22

A group of anime-style characters fropm the Persona series stands confidently in front of a colorful graffiti mural, each dressed in distinct outfits with paint splatters and holding paint cans.

Persona 4 Revival continues Atlus' remaking endeavors following 2024's Persona 3 Reload, but it seems like the Japanese company is already thinking about what's next for the popular JRPG series following the release of this new remake and Persona 6 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. With Persona 5 being a modern game in no need of an immediate remake, Atlus could be looking at the series' past, but remaking the first two entries in the series will be a significant challenge due to the original games themselves. ATLUS producer comments of Persona 1 and 2 Remakes: “I think we have to do it”

11 August 2026 at 11:45

In the 10 years since the initial launch of Persona 5, we’ve seen ATLUS publish a ton of various side-projects, re-releases and full-on remakes. Following the success of Persona 3 Reload – and ahead of the upcoming Persona 4 Revival, ATLUS producer Kazuhisa Wada was asked about the prospects of remakes for the first two games in the series; responding positively to the notion.

Taking part in an interview conducted by the publication GamerBraves, ATLUS producer Kazuhisa Wada was asked about the upcoming Persona 4 Revival vis-a-vis “the technical challenges of rebuilding Inaba in 3D to the choices behind combat, story presentation, and the game’s new title.”

While the full interview can be found HERE, the most interesting part came when Wada was asked about other potential remake projects – namely remakes for the original Persona 1 and 2.

ATLUS Remake

Though a concrete answer was not provided, the prospect seems to be ruminating internally at ATLUS, with Wada stating: “At this point, I can't say for sure, but personally, I think it's something we should definitely do. I think we have to do it.”

It is worth noting that of all the Persona games, the first two are likely to be the toughest to remake, owing to the fact that both games were developed for the PlayStation 1 and as such are structured very differently to P3 onwards. That said, this is perhaps the exact reason as to why these two titles deserve to be remade.

Either way, with Persona 4 Revival scheduled to launch in February of next year – and Persona 6 likely years away from release – don’t expect any more remakes anytime soon.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Persona’s remakes so far? Would you welcome a re-do of the first two entries? When do you think Persona 6 will officially launch? Let us know down below.

SEGA announces Crazy Taxi: World Tour ‘Closed Network Test’

29 July 2026 at 10:00

Back in 2023, SEGA made waves when they announced that they would be reviving many of their older, dormant IPs. In amongst the line-up was a brand new Crazy Taxi – the first new mainline console entry since 2002’s Crazy Taxi 3. While the upcoming World Tour has been mired by some GenAI controversies, those interested in the game will have the opportunity to check it out ahead of release, with SEGA now announcing a closed network test.

Making the announcement on their blog (alongside the release of a brand new trailer), SEGA confirmed that they will be hosting a closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour in September, writing:

“We will be inviting a small number of players to test the stability of the online multiplayer functionality ahead of the full release of Crazy Taxi: World Tour. Players will be able to participate in two multiplayer modes: Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies.”

Crazy Taxi World Tour

The closed network test will officially go live on the 11th of September, and will remain accessible until the 14th. Curiously, while World Tour will be launching on all current-gen consoles, the network test will not be coming to the Switch 2, with PS5, Xbox and PC users being the only ones who can register.

Full details on the closed network test (including all the content which will be playable) can be found HERE.

After decades away from the franchise, it is exciting to see SEGA bringing back Crazy Taxi. It’s just a shame to see that they are making use of GenAI for its development.

Nvidia and Sega team up to bring games to RTX Spark

15 July 2026 at 16:00

Nvidia is teaming up with SEGA to bring Virtua Fighter Crossroads and other classic SEGA titles to newly the newly launched RTX Spark platform. While RTX Spark systems will use Windows, the chip is ARM-based, meaning extra compatibility work needs to be done to get certain games running.

The announcement was made during an event at GiGO Akihabara in Tokyo, where CEO Jensen Huang appeared alongside SEGA leadership and Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki. Nvidia confirmed that Virtua Fighter Crossroads will be the first SEGA title supported on RTX Spark, with more games planned to follow.

This is an interesting partnership, as Nvidia also partnered with Sega decades ago for the very first PC version of Virtua Fighter. While Virtua Fighter Crossroads will be the first Sega title to support the RTX Spark platform, there will be more games getting support in the future as well.

Netflix are making a live-action Persona adaptation

30 June 2026 at 09:30

Netflix is no stranger to adaptations, with the streaming giant having produced a number of shows tied to video game properties, from the animated Devil May Cry to the live-action Witcher. Even so, this latest announcement comes as a bit of a surprise, with Netflix reportedly working on a live-action Persona show.

As reported by the publication Variety, Netflix and SEGA have struck a deal to produce a live-action adaptation based on their popular JRPG series Persona. While plot details remain under wraps, we have gotten a decent look at who is involved in the project, with Christopher Monfette serving as showrunner, writer and executive producer.

As a writer, Monfette is known best for his work on the dystopian sci-fi show ‘12 Monkeys’, a couple episodes of Star Trek Picard and 9 episodes of the medical drama 9-1-1.

Persona Netflix

Other names attached (as executive producers) include Shawn Levy [Night at the Museum trilogy and Free Guy] and Dmitri M. Johnson [Sonic films and the upcoming Tomb Raider / Life is Strange].

Given Netflix’s history with animated adaptations of games, it is somewhat odd to see them opting for the live-action route. It could wind up like the early seasons of The Witcher, or it could falter like their live-action Death Note. We will have to wait and see. Either way, it’ll be curious to learn which of Persona’s games they will opt to adapt.

SEGA hopes to make its entire library of 4,500 games “fully playable”

22 June 2026 at 09:00

Video game preservation is becoming an increasingly important topic. As the industry ages, so too does its hardware, with many older titles potentially being lost to time (only being saved by the likes of emulation). In an official capacity, SEGA has revealed that the publisher is currently undergoing an ambitious project to make its entire library of 4,500 games “fully playable.”

Taking part in an interview with the Japanese publication Famitsu, SEGA’s Yosuke Okunari – a 30-year veteran at the studio – revealed that he has been working on a rather ambitious project, stating (as translated by TheGamer):

“For the past few years, I've been working on creating an in-house game database. I still have a long way to go to complete it, but a search of the current version reveals that, excluding ports and remakes, there are about 2,800 Sega game titles. Including all of them, there are about 4,500 titles.”

SEGA Playable

Explaining the long-term goal of this project, Okunari continued, “Once this database is complete, I'd like to make it fully playable. But I'll probably retire before then, so I'll likely have to hand over the work to someone else.”

Long-term game preservation is a tough nut, due to the evolution of technology over time but perhaps even more so as a result of all the legalese surrounding different game developers; publishers; IP holders and any other bits of red tape getting in the way.

Regardless, hopefully more publishers try to make an active effort to preserve their history and legacy for current and future generations.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

Persona 4 Revival Plays It Safe With a Faithful Remake, but New Combat Finally Fixes the Series’ Most Ignored Mechanic

19 June 2026 at 10:19

Characters from the game 'Persona 4 Revival' stand dramatically on a colorful stage with a large animated screen backdrop displaying a close-up of a character wielding a sword.

The first proper look at Atlus's Persona 4 Revival arrived earlier this month during the Xbox Games Showcase, but the Japanese developer provided a more in-depth look at the remake of the fourth entry in the series launching on February 18, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S (including Xbox Game Pass) in a dedicated livestream which showcased its key features, including some new combat features that are set to make some underutilized mechanics more worthwhile to use.
