Sonic the Hedgehog 4 film gets first official teaser

20 March 2026 at 13:00

Sonic the Hedgehog is perhaps more popular than he’s ever been, thanks in large part to the success of the live-action film series. With 3 movies and a TV show spin-off now under their belt, SEGA / Paramount have officially begun to tease the next entry; confirming that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will feature the iconic villain Metal Sonic.

Releasing a title reveal trailer (which serves pretty much as an old-school teaser trailer), Paramount / SEGA have officially kicked off their marketing for the hotly-anticipated 4th entry in the film series.

While it was already known, the trailer also reaffirmed the fact that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will premiere on the 19th of March 2027 – one year from now.

Plot details are being kept light so far, however based on the teaser released it is clear that both Amy Rose and Metal Sonic are set to be prominent additions to the cast. Of course, with the ending to the 3rd film it was already clear that Amy would be joining the roster. Still, it is exciting to see Metal Sonic also set to feature.

Additionally, thanks to certain wording being used during the voiceover present in the teaser, it is possible that Chaos could also appear at some point. We will have to wait a year to find out. Regardless, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 looks set to be another excellent entry in this ever-growing film series.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds Mega Man DLC officially arrives next week

19 March 2026 at 11:00

While sales may be somewhat lighter than the publisher was hoping for, SEGA’s Sonic Racing Crossworlds is a success in the eyes of many fans, offering a solid blend between fun gameplay, recognisable IPs and the promise of future content. One of the game’s big post-launch DLCs – Mega Man – has now gotten an official launch date; set to race onto the track in less than a week’s time.

Releasing a tongue-in-cheek trailer reminiscent of the classic Mega Man openings, SEGA officially confirmed that Sonic Racing Crossworlds’ Mega Man DLC pack will launch on the 25th of March.

This marks the 4th of 6 total post-launch crossover packs coming to the game, with the previous 3 being Minecraft; SpongeBob Square Pants and Pac-Man. Future DLCs yet to come include a TMNT themed crossover as well as one based on Avatar: The Last Airbender.

No price has been provided yet, however based on the previously-released DLC packs expect it to set you back £4.99 while including two characters (Mega Man and Protoman), a single course; a new vehicle and perhaps a music track or two.

Regardless, with the upcoming addition of Mega Man and co. Sonic Racing Crossworlds is continuing to live up to its name.

SEGA claims that high review scores for their games “have yet to translate into a further increase in unit sales”

11 March 2026 at 11:15

In recent years, SEGA has seen a notable rise, with many of their franchises (Sonic included) receiving both strong sales and high ratings. Unfortunately, it appears as though these numbers have not been strong enough, with the publisher claiming that “high evaluations have yet to translate into a further increase in unit sales.”

As part of the publisher’s latest fiscal earnings Q&A (collated by VGC), SEGA commented on their recent output and how players/fans have responded to these releases, stating that “we recognize that our strength lies in the relatively high acclaim we receive for quality. On the other hand, we also recognize that such high evaluations have yet to translate into a further increase in unit sales.”

Adding greater context, SEGA claimed: “While continuing to hone our development capabilities—the source of our strength—we believe there is still significant room for improvement and earnings upside in our ‘power to sell,’ namely our marketing and sales mechanisms.”

SEGA Sales

In discussing how they plan to push more units, the publisher continued: “We will strengthen data analysis to optimize digital sales pricing by region and shift our marketing focus from individual new releases to an IP-based approach, aiming to maximize sales over the long term, including repeat sales.”

As mentioned, SEGA has had a number of major and successful releases, with the Persona and Like a Dragon franchises alone contributing greatly. That said, as with most major companies, expectations are set sky high, and so it will be interesting to see what this new ‘IP-based approach’ will look like.

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 are being delisted from mobile storefronts

18 February 2026 at 12:00

As a publisher, SEGA had been pretty good when it comes to supporting mobile platforms, with the company releasing both original titles to both Android/iOS as well as bringing ports of their classics to smartphones. That said, last year the publisher began to delist a bunch of games from the iOS/Android app stores – with only a few titles still remaining. Unfortunately, it seems these too are now set to be delisted, with Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 both being updated with ‘End of Service’ messages.

As reported by Wario64 via BlueSky, the mobile ports for both Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 have been updated to include a pop-up message citing the game’s impending delisting, writing: “End of Service: Support for this game will be discontinued, but you can continue playing offline.”

This latest announcement comes as quite the disappointment. Alongside the fact that Sonic 1 and 2 were some of the only mobile ports of Classic SEGA titles still available to download, the ports themselves were excellent, featuring dynamic aspect ratio support; quality-of-life improvements and much more – making their removals extra unfortunate to see.

SEGA Sonic

As mentioned, 2025 saw SEGA remove a ton of classics from the iOS App Store / Google Play Store, including but not limited to:

  • Sonic CD
  • Sonic 4 Episodes 1 and 2
  • Super Monkey Ball
  • Virtua Tennis
  • Crazy Taxi
  • Golden axe
  • Streets of Rage

With Sonic 1 and 2 now also being removed, it seems SEGA’s Forever Classics experiment has officially come to an end. Here’s to hoping that the publisher plans to reintroduce these titles in one form or another – though hopefully not as a subscription. We will have to wait and see, but make sure to pick up the few remaining classics while they’re still available.
