The Witcher 4 Brings Back Dandelion, Yet His Role In Songs of the Past May Be Smaller Than Anticipated

7 September 2026 at 10:32

With Geralt passing the protagonist torch to Ciri in The Witcher 4, many are expecting a good portion of the cast of the first three entries in the series to not make an appearance. While we have yet to hear anything about any other notable character of the game launching in 2028 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, we did get the confirmation that Dandelion will be back in the fourth entry in the series, although his role in The Witcher 3's Songs of the Past expansion could be smaller than anticipated. As reported by the Facebook page […]

Witcher Remake on hold for new Witcher 3 expansion and The Witcher 4

3 September 2026 at 16:00

CD Projekt has provided an update on the status of The Witcher Remake, confirming that development has been folded into work on The Witcher 4 for the time being.

In a statement to GameSpot, the studio explained that Fool’s Theory is now primarily focused on Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, with a smaller part of the team assisting on The Witcher 4. As a result, The Witcher Remake is waiting on assets, tools and pipelines being built for The Witcher 4 before full development can resume.

Signs of this shift first appeared when joint‑CEO Michał Nowakowski mentioned roadblocks for the remake in an interview with The Game Business, citing technology dependencies tied to The Witcher 4. CD Projekt is transitioning from RED Engine to Unreal Engine, and The Witcher 4 will define the baseline for how the series operates on Unreal. The Witcher Remake, announced in 2022, appears to have been caught up in that transition.

Fool’s Theory is currently leading development on Songs of the Past, unveiled at Gamescom, while also supporting work on The Witcher 4. Once those projects are complete, development on the remake is expected to ramp up again.

KitGuru Says: The Witcher 1 was a pretty small game so remaking it shouldn't be a huge task, but it sounds like Songs of the Past and Witcher 4 are the clear priorities right now.

The Witcher 4 Development Is Halted If Any Console Fails, As CD Projekt Red Locks In Strict Platform Checkmarks

31 August 2026 at 11:26

Although CD Projekt Red eventually addressed the massive performance issues Cyberpunk 2077 had on PlayStation and Xbox, there's still some concern that the same may happen for The Witcher 4 when it launches in 2028. Having learned from that terrible experience, CD Projekt Red not only has the game running on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S already, but has also implemented some rigorous checkmarks that prevent development from proceeding if the game doesn't run well on all platforms. "You come to the studio, you launch Witcher 4 right now," co-CEO Michał Nowakowski told Game Developer. "You can launch it […]

The Witcher 4 to launch in 2028

25 August 2026 at 08:30

Half a decade on from their last release in the form of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red appear to be getting ready to drop multiple titles back-to-back over the next few years. Alongside the arrival of Songs of the Past some time in 2027, CDPR have now confirmed that The Witcher 4 will follow it up in 2028.

Taking to their socials to release a short video, CDPR’s Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski reiterated the fact that the team will have a big presence at the upcoming 2026 edition of Gamescom, stating:

“I wanted to invite you to watch Opening Night Live, and come visit us on the Gamescom show floor […] The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. We have a lot of the expansion to show off, including a taste of its dark story, and the new content it will bring.”

The Witcher 4 CD Projekt Red

As mentioned, it was already previously confirmed that Songs of the Past would be at Gamescom in one form or another. In an unexpected move however, CDPR also spoke briefly about The Witcher 4. While it will not be present at Gamescom, Nowakowski did give some small nuggets of information, describing the title as “our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date” – confirming that it will launch in 2028.

Given that aspects of Songs of the Past are meant to tie directly into The Witcher 4, having the two release close together does make sense. Whether CD Projekt Red will be able to pull it off however (in a bug-free manner no less), we will have to wait and see.

KitGuru says: Are you looking forward to Gamescom? Between Songs of the Past and The Witcher 4, which of the two are you more excited for? Let us know down below.

CD Projekt RED CEO Admits Cyberpunk 2077’s Redemption Arc Isn’t Complete, but Hopes The Witcher 4 Wins Back Fans

20 June 2026 at 14:00

A split image showing Johnny Silverhand from 'Cyberpunk 2077' and Ciri from a 'The Witcher 4' game, both made by CD Projekt RED.

CD Projekt RED famously suffered a major hit to its sterling reputation with the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, mainly because of the major bugs and terribly underwhelming console performance on previous-generation hardware, which forced Sony to remove the game from the PlayStation Store until it was fixed a few months later. The Polish studio worked very hard to resolve all these technical issues and further improve the game's features and content, culminating in the release of Update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion, both of which were extremely well received and made the game very appealing to gamers once again […]

“It would be difficult” to release a Witcher 4 expansion claims CDPR

1 June 2026 at 11:00

Following the release of Cyberpunk 2077, studio CD Projekt Red offered fans insight into their next decade worth of developments, revealing that they plan to release a Witcher remake, a new Witcher trilogy and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. Given their schedule, it makes sense that according to CDPR, there are no plans for The Witcher 4 to receive any expansions in the vein of Hearts of Stone / Blood and Wine.

During the company’s recent earnings call (as transcribed by GamesRadar), the joint CEO for CDPR – Michał Nowakowski – was asked whether future Witcher titles would receive any expansions a-la The Witcher 3, stating:

“Given the very ambitious project pipeline, does the company see room for developing expansions for the new Witcher saga?” to which Nowakowski responded:

“As you mentioned in the question, the plans are pretty ambitious. Specifically, it's to release three Witcher games within a six-year period. It would be difficult, to be very honest, for us to add an expansion to the upcoming trilogy. This is where we are here and now with this particular issue.”

CDPR Trilogy

While this does not mean that the games won’t see any post-launch support, don’t expect any major DLCs or expansions moving forward.

That said, given that they hope to release an entire trilogy in the span of 6 years, fans shouldn’t be hurting for more Witcher any time soon – especially with The Witcher 3’s Song of the Past arriving next year.

28 May 2026 at 18:08

A character from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt riding a horse through a mountainous landscape.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will officially be getting a new DLC expansion in 2027, developer CD Projekt RED announced just yesterday after months of rumours. Today, embedded within its latest financial report for the first quarter of its 2026 fiscal year, CDPR also revealed that the storied RPG hit yet another massive sales milestone, surpassing 65 million copies sold in its lifetime. The Witcher 3 has been a known success with tens of millions of copies sold in the time since its original launch back in 2015, for years now, which is why it wasn't all too surprising when […]

The Witcher 4, Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Won’t Fall Into Old Pitfalls, As CDPR Enforces Requirements To Prevent Development Chaos

20 May 2026 at 14:57

A character from 'The Witcher 4' wearing a fur-lined hood with a sword visible on their back.

Coming after what is commonly regarded as one of the finest open-world role-playing games ever made, CD Projekt Red will have to go the extra mile with The Witcher 4 to deliver a game that will meet the high expectations its predecessor has set. Although it was eventually fixed and improved, Cyberpunk 2077's known launch woes are making more than a few worried that the studio's next big adventure will have a similarly troubled release. However, the Polish developer is imposing certain requirements to prevent the same development chaos that affected their previous games. “We've got some new requirements, especially a new […]

CD Projekt RED Says it has “No Plans for Additional DLCs or Expansions” for Cyberpunk 2077 as we Wait for Rumored Witcher 3 DLC

13 March 2026 at 17:00

A character from Cyberpunk 2077 with long black hair and a cybernetic arm looks downwards in a moment of reflection.

CD Projekt RED, as far as we officially know, is working on The Witcher 4, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, an action RPG codenamed Project Hadar, and a Witcher multiplayer game codenamed Project Sirius. There have been a lot of rumors circulating recently that we're also getting a new DLC expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and while that remains unconfirmed, a lot of signs point to it getting revealed and released this year. What we won't be getting, however, according to CD Projekt RED, is a new expansion or new DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077. Through the official Cyberpunk […]

The Witcher 4 Gets Updated NVIDIA RTX Mega Geometry: Higher Framerates, Lower VRAM Use 1

NVIDIA has announced that CDProjectRed's upcoming title, The Witcher 4, will leverage its updated RTX Mega Geometry technology, offering higher frame rates and lower VRAM usage. CDProjectRed & NVIDIA To Integrate Next-Gen RTX Mega Geometry Technology In The Witcher 4 With its RTX 50 GPUs powered by the Blackwell architecture, NVIDIA introduced a new technology called RTX Mega Geometry. This technology clusters millions of triangles that make up tens of thousands of objects you see in every scene. These clusters are compressed and cached over many frames, where they are intelligently reused as the player traverses the world. This makes […]

Nvidia announces RTX technologies in The Witcher 4, releases new Game Ready driver at GDC 2026

10 March 2026 at 17:00

NVIDIA is expanding its DLSS 4.5 feature set this month, adding new frame‑generation options and wider game support as part of its next NVIDIA app beta arriving at the end of the month.

The new Nvidia App update introduces DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, a system that adjusts the number of generated frames on the fly to help players hit a target frame rate or match their display’s refresh rate. It will be available as an override option within the app but as has always been the case with Multi-Frame Generation, it is a feature exclusive to RTX 50 series GPUs. Upcoming games like 007 First Light and Control Resonant will launch with ray-traced graphics in the coming months and will support DLSS 4.5 from launch.

Another significant GeForce-related announcement at GDC this week came via RTX Mega Geometry. This technology initially debuted in Alan Wake 2, compressing geometry into clusters to accelerate scene updates and reduce VRAM usage. This means dense foliage and other complex environments can be rendered with full-fidelity Path Tracing. Control Resonant will be adopting this feature when it launches this year and further down the line, CD Projekt Red also plans to implement it in The Witcher 4.

Alongside the DLSS updates, NVIDIA has released a new GeForce Game Ready Driver optimised for Crimson Desert and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, both of which support DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation. The driver also adds support for more than 35 new G‑SYNC Compatible displays. The driver update is available now to download via the Nvidia App and directly through the Nvidia website.
