Stranger Than Heaven Reinvents Yakuza Combat Around the Shoulder Buttons, Replacing Heat Moves With Stamina-Based Counterattacks

14 June 2026 at 19:00

A character in a fur-collared coat and hat adjusting their hat in front of an orange background, with the words 'STRANGER THAN HEAVEN' prominently displayed.

The Stranger Than Heaven demo available at Summer Game Fest 2026 was solely focused on combat across three distinct periods of Japanese history. No side quests, no diversions; just a man, a hammer, and a plan. There is certainly an interesting narrative hook at play here, with the characters aging as the story progresses, but I will reserve my final judgment until I can sit down and explore Shinjuku at my own pace. All I can say is that Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has clearly spent its time creating some true-to-reality cities that each feel like they're in their own […]

11 June 2026 at 18:00

CAPCOM stole the show at this year's Summer Game Fest with a deep dive into Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the highly anticipated revival of their beloved dark fantasy franchise. After trying a new build of the game, we sat down with Game Director Satoru Nihei to discuss how the first new Onimusha entry in twenty years plans to completely reshape the series' classic formula. Moving away from the weapon-swapping mechanics of old, the developers revealed a razor-sharp focus on single-katana mastery, elevated by incredibly nuanced parry systems and a groundbreaking, RE Engine-powered "free-cut" system for the iconic Issen counters. Alien: Isolation 2 Hands-On: The Xenomorph Snatched Me Just Steps From the Exit, and I’d Do It Again

11 June 2026 at 15:00

A menacing alien Xenomorph creature from the game 'Alien: Isolation 2' is seen alongside a green-lit motion tracker on the ground.

Has it really been almost twelve years since the first Alien: Isolation? Players were eager to take a risk on Creative Assembly, a studio that was known almost exclusively for the Total War franchise for the better part of a decade before the project’s announcement. Shifting into first-person survival horror couldn’t have been more of a shift from the English studio’s prior works, but it was something the franchise desperately needed, and the Metacritic scores were unanimously positive while admitting it wasn’t quite a perfect experience. Our playable slice of Alien: Isolation 2, just unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2026, […]

Blood Message Hands-on Demo Proves 24 Entertainment Studied Naughty Dog’s Last Three Generations β€” and Took Notes

11 June 2026 at 14:00

A warrior in the game 'Blood Message' holds an ornate sword with riders charging in the background.

NetEase's upcoming action/adventure game Blood Message feels immediately familiar in the best way, channeling the kinetic, cinematic momentum of Uncharted while still carving out its own identity. During a brief Summer Game Fest 2026 demo, the game impressed me with its constant forward motion, brutal close-quarters combat, and a design that keeps the action moving even when QTEs or stealth attempts go sideways. In a way, Blood Message is the single most Uncharted-coded game that I've played in a long while, and I mean that endearingly. There is a constant sense of "failing forward" in the gameplay that lets the […]

Resident Evil Veronica Producer Quashes Down First-Person Fears, Promises Claire’s Remake Will Mirror RE2’s Survival Loop

Following the unveiling of Resident Evil Veronica at the recent Summer Game Fest 2026, CAPCOM was also available to conduct media presentations about the game and answer questions from the press in a roundtable format. Wccftech attended one of those, where producerΒ Yoshiaki HirabayashiΒ clarified several newsworthy details about the highly anticipated remake of 2000's Code Veronica, which the studio regards in the same way as the numbered entries. The game will launch at some point in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and Nintendo Switch 2. WCCFTECH: Is Resident Evil: Veronica being developed with a first-person mode […]

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Game Director Promises 6 Extra Hours of Content and Deeper Pirate Exploration

21 May 2026 at 18:00

Edward Kenway from Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced stands on a pirate ship, holding two pistols against a backdrop of the ocean and islands.

At the recent Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced hands-on event organized by Ubisoft in San Francisco, California, Wccftech had the opportunity to interview Richard Knight, the Game Director of this highly anticipated remake. Knight, whose Ubisoft Singapore credits include Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Mirage, and Skull and Bones, said the goal was to focus the remake on Edward Kenway’s story and adventure. That meant modern technical upgrades, a more seamless open world, and a handful of new gameplay additions, while trimming elements such as multiplayer and the original game's modern-day stuff. The result, he said, is meant to feel like a […]

Autonomous Desk 5 Pro and ErgoChair Ultra Review – Clean and Professional

5 March 2026 at 18:59

A desk setup featuring dual HP monitors, a Razer keyboard, a mouse, and a laptop displaying the 'Wccftech' logo.

Over the past few months, I’ve been shopping around for a first home, and one of the requisites was to have a dedicated office space. Fast forward to November 1st of this year, and my wife and I signed the final documents to get the keys to our new home. Autonomous actually reached out to us much earlier in the year and sent samples of both their Desk 5 Pro and ErgoChair Ultra (in black and white to match the Wccftech logo), but remained sealed in a box until I finally had the space to install a brand new desk. […]

God of War: Sons of Sparta Review – With It or On It

God of War: Sons of Sparta plays it safe when no other entry had done so before. A Metroid-like handled by an indie studio might not be what you expected in 2026 but I enjoy seeing smaller studios try and give a unique spin on existing franchises.
