Switch 2 Demand Holds Firm After $50 Price Hike: Nintendo Orders 20 Million Units as Analyst Says Buyers Will Adjust

22 May 2026 at 13:00

The image shows a concept of a Nintendo Switch 2 with Joy-Con controllers and a dock, set against a red background.

Bloomberg reports today that Nintendo is quietly raising its Switch 2 production quota to 20 million units for this fiscal year, a 20% increase over the 16.5 million units publicly outlined in the latest financial report that was released earlier this month. Nintendo is used to sharing very conservative estimates that are then handily beaten by the actual results. Dr. Serkan Toto, a renowned industry analyst, said as much to Bloomberg; he also believes that even the higher Switch 2 price won't stop consumers from buying the console. For them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and […]

PlayStation Plus prices are going up from tomorrow for new subscribers

19 May 2026 at 12:00

While Microsoft has been rather reactive when it comes to altering its Xbox Game Pass prices, Sony’s PlayStation Plus has remained relatively static in recent years. Finally however, Sony has made the unfortunate announcement that they will be raising the price for PS Plus starting from tomorrow – albeit only for new subscribers.

Making the surprise announcement on Twitter, the official PlayStation page wrote the following: “Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP [previously £6.99] for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP [was £19.99] for 3-month subscriptions.”

While disappointing to see, Sony made sure to note that this increase does not apply to current subscribers. That said, if you do let your PS Plus subscription lapse, then you will be put on the higher pricing tier should you wish to return.

PlayStation Plus Price

Additionally, Sony’s most cost-effective tier – their 12 month subscription – appears to be unaltered, meaning you should still be able to subscribe to the service for £59.99 (or roughly £5 a month).

Regardless, it is disappointing to see PlayStation Plus go up in price, especially as the service itself does not appear to be changing in any material way for the better.

For those who are subscribed to PS Plus, May’s Extras offerings are available to play from today, including the likes of Star Wars: Outlaws, Red Dead Redemption 2 among others. The full list can be found HERE.

8 May 2026 at 19:35

The image shows the cover art for 'Grand Theft Auto VI' GTA 6 with two characters holding guns next to a body of water, alongside two PlayStation 5 consoles.

There's no doubt that GTA 6 will attract an absolutely massive audience when it launches on November 19 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. According to Circana's Matt Piscatella, though, a lot of casual gamers may be in for a rude awakening when they head to the store to buy one of those consoles and the game in six months' time. Speaking to The Game Business show, he said: Those folks who don't pay a lot of attention that have heard, okay, well GTA 6 is coming, but they're not really keyed in. That's a lot of […]

Nintendo Stock Hits Longest Losing Streak Since 2016 as Investors Demand Switch 2 Price Hike Despite Pokopia & Mario Galaxy

6 May 2026 at 18:00

A Nintendo Switch 2 screen displays characters from various games, including Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Link from The Legend of Zelda, against a colorful background.

Today, Bloomberg's Tech In Depth newsletter covers a thorny subject: should Nintendo raise the Switch 2 pricing in response to the current economic environment and the ongoing memory shortage? Sony did, across its entire PlayStation ecosystem (PS5, PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal). Nintendo, on the other hand, has maintained steadfast so far, but Bloomberg points out that investors aren't quite happy with this strategy. The company's stock has been on a steady decline for five consecutive months, marking the longest sustained decline in Nintendo's stock since 2016. This is despite the Nintendo Switch 2 continuing to sell extremely […]

Take-Two CEO comments on Grand Theft Auto VI launch price

30 April 2026 at 10:15

Ever since Nintendo began to charge $80 for some of its Switch 2 games, there has been a growing discussion surrounding game prices and more specifically how much Rockstar Games’ highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI will cost at launch. While we have yet to get an official figure, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive has now commented on the matter.

Speaking during a recent appearance at the ‘iicon’ video game conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick officially commented on the potential price for Grand Theft Auto VI, stating (as transcribed by IGN):

“Consumers pay for the value that you bring to them, and our job is to charge way way way less of the value delivery. How you feel about something you buy is the intersection of the thing itself and what you pay for. Consumers need to feel like the thing itself is amazing and the price they were charged was fair for what they got.”

Grand Theft Auto CEO

Zelnick continued, “We look at… how do we deliver something amazing, and how do we make sure that what people pay for it feels very reasonable.”

While pretty much no-one expected Zelnick to announce the official price for GTA VI during the conference, his comments do suggest that hopefully the popular memes claiming that Grand Theft Auto VI will cost $100+ remain just that: jokes and memes. With GTA VI scheduled to release this November however, we will have to find out sooner or later.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Zelnick’s comments? What price do you believe GTA VI will cost at launch? How much would you be willing to pay? Let us know down below.

Valve’s new Steam Controller could be just around the corner

27 April 2026 at 15:00

Over the past week, a number of leaks have pointed towards a near-term launch for the Steam Controller, one of three new hardware products that Valve announced in late 2025.

According to Japanese site, 4Gamer, the Steam Controller is going to launch on May 4th. It would appear that embargo timing was miscommunicated as around a similar time, a tech reviews channel, Techy Talk, uploaded an embargo-breaking review of the controller. Both the initial review and launch article have since been taken down, but the news already spread via community forums and outlets like Insider Gaming.

In the now deleted Steam Controller review, it was also claimed that the controller will cost $99.99 and size comparisons showed it to be very large compared to Xbox and PlayStation controllers.

As the announcement seems to have been delayed somewhere along the way, there is a chance that the Steam Controller doesn't launch on May 4th, but that was likely the plan at one point in the recent past. Valve itself has uploaded a secret Steam Controller unboxing video that it is waiting to unveil to the public.

The big question remains – will the Steam Machine or Steam Frame ship alongside the controller? Valve initially planned to launch all three products in a close timeframe, as they all share the same ecosystem and are designed to work together. However, in recent months, the consumer memory chip market has seen a tight squeeze, leading to hefty price increases. This ultimately led to Valve delaying its new hardware rollout to later in the year but the exact timing has remained unspecified.

KitGuru Says: At the very least, I would like to see the Steam Machine and Steam Controller launching at the same time, but as long as the Steam Controller remains in good supply whenever the Steam Machine does drop, then it won't be a huge issue.

Game Pass Pricing May Drop Soon, According to Leaked Internal Memo

13 April 2026 at 18:45

The image shows the Xbox Game Pass logo with various game covers in the background, along with an Xbox controller and console.

Yet another reliable rumor suggests Microsoft may lower the price of its Game Pass subscription service. Yesterday, we reported Jez Corden's claim that Microsoft may be considering dropping this year's new Call of Duty game from Game Pass. Today, The Verge's Tom Warren has shared the content of a leaked internal memo penned by new Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma. According to Warren, Sharma made it clear to Xbox employees that there will have to be structural changes to Game Pass: Game Pass is central to gaming value on Xbox. It’s also clear that the current model isn’t the final […]

Google’s TurboQuant Made The Memory Industry Fear The Boom Was Over; Even The Researcher Behind It Is Shocked By The Reaction

12 April 2026 at 18:19

A chart titled '2024 Desktop CPU Survey' shows an increasing interest in AMD Ryzen processors over time.

The memory industry saw a rollercoaster ride in the past few weeks following the debut of Google's TurboQuant, but the idea of shortages being over is seen as a "misinterpretation", to say the least. Google's TurboQuant Isn't Slowing Down the Memory Supercycle At All; the Demand Will Stay For Several Quarters With DDR prices coming down over the past few days, we did discuss the role of Google's TurboQuant algorithm; however, tying it to the end of memory shortages was a mere misperception, according to The Financial Times' latest report. AMD confirms $899 price tag for Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition

9 April 2026 at 14:00

A couple of weeks ago, AMD officially announced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition processor, combining two stacks of 3D V-Cache in one chip. This is going to be AMD's top-end Ryzen desktop processor, so we expected it to be expensive, but the exact cost remained elusive. That changed this week with AMD revealing an $899 price tag.

In a tweet this afternoon, David McAfee, AMD's VP and GM of Ryzen, confirmed that the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 will launch on April 22nd with an $899 price tag. As PCGamer points out, this is $200 higher than the launch price for the standard Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 stands out thanks to its dual 3D V-Cache design, providing 208MB of high-speed on-chip cache, the most ever put into a Ryzen processor. The additional cache means more game data and more assets can sit right next to the CPU cores, providing speedy access with dramatically reduced latency.

This all should lead to performance improvements in both gaming and content creation tasks, but AMD says it will “really shine” in other demanding workflows like simulations, 3D rendering, large software builds, AI models, and game engine compiles, positioning this CPU as a workstation-class chip, rather than a gaming one.

AI Giants Are Entering Into Years-Long Memory Contracts, Proving To Be the ‘Best Case’ Scenario For Suppliers, But Terrible For Everyone Else

5 April 2026 at 16:49

A large data center with rows of illuminated server racks and numbered concrete pillars under dim, colored lighting.

Amid cries of a decline in the memory industry, supply chain reports suggest that hyperscalers are locking into long-term contracts with suppliers to secure a consistent supply. Hyperscalers Are Willing To 'Risk It All' to Secure DRAM Supply, Even Entering Into Contracts That Could Backfire The memory markets entered an interesting phase over the past few weeks, as 'widespread' panic among retailers and some elements of the supply chain led them to believe that the release of Google's TurboQuant compression algorithm would end the supercycle. This resulted not just in a wider selloff in memory stock capitalization, but also, at […]

The memory industry is now witnessing a major shift, as DRAM suppliers are now looking to lock in customers into 'multi-year' contracts, essentially guaranteeing demand. Samsung Entering Into Long-Term Contracts Means Shortages Might Last Till The End of the Decade It appears that the demand for memory products among Big Tech is so massive that they are willing to take the risk of entering long-term agreements with suppliers like Samsung and Micron, which is seen as a rather 'untraditional' move within the industry. A report by the Korean media outlet EBN reveals that hyperscalers are entering into long-term memory contracts […]

Samsung Is Luring Customers With a “Slight Discount” Into Five-Year Contracts to Keep the Memory Boom Alive for Longer

18 March 2026 at 11:57

DRAM Memory Supply To Experience Shortages As Manufacturers Shift Focus Towards HBM Production 1

Samsung is reportedly looking for customers eager to enter into 'multi-year' memory contracts by offering a slight discount at the outset. Samsung Intends to Lock In DRAM Supply For Several Years, Likely to Prevent Overinvestments The memory industry has been experiencing an unprecedented demand cycle over the past few quarters, as enterprise demand is through the roof, pushing DRAM contract prices to new levels. While suppliers are immensely benefiting from the current situation, there are concerns that the aggressive demand will end. To ensure the cycle's volatility doesn't affect suppliers more, Samsung is reportedly locking suppliers into surprise three- and […]

Memory Suppliers Are Actually Worried the Demand Boom Won’t Last ‘Too Long’, and Are Already Rethinking Expansion Plans

15 March 2026 at 15:42

Increased DRAM costs to increase smartphone BoM (Bill of Materials) by up to 25 percent, resulting in lowered shipments

Suppliers like Samsung and SK hynix are planning to take a rather 'cautious' approach to their DRAM plans, as they see a risk of oversupply, according to a report. Samsung Expects The DRAM Supercycle To Fade Away By 2028, Which Is Why It is Being Cautious With Investments The DRAM shortages are intensifying each quarter, and this is clearly evident in how contract prices are evolving aggressively, with a triple-digit increase that is beyond shocking. While manufacturers like SK hynix and Samsung are currently capitalizing on unprecedented demand, they are also cautious about expanding output. Chosun Biz reports that Samsung […]
