Valve Warns European Steam Hardware Buyers That Their Addresses Leaked after Shipping Partner CEVA Got Hit by a Cyberattack

10 August 2026 at 11:40

Valve's Steam Machine emits light from a horizontal strip alongside the European Union flag with yellow stars on a blue background.

Today, Valve has notified European customers via email (as first revealed on the ResetEra board) that CEVA Logistics, the third-party company responsible for shipping Steam hardware across Europe, was targeted in a cyberattack between July 29 and August 1, 2026. Valve says it learned on August 7 (last Friday) that customer data was likely compromised as a result. What Was Exposed Because CEVA needs delivery details to ship physical hardware, the attackers likely accessed a specific set of information tied to hardware orders, including: Valve emphasizes that account-level information was not affected. CEVA never had access to payment details, Steam […]

Valve’s unreleased Steam Frame VR headset gets first game compatibility rating

30 June 2026 at 11:00

Valve's upcoming Steam Frame VR headset has seen its first compatibility rating surface, with Portal 2 receiving a ‘Playable' certification on the platform. The listing marks the first concrete indicator of software compatibility targets for the unreleased virtual reality device.

Spotted by Brad Lynch (via Notebook Check), the compatibility entry on SteamDB states that Portal 2 meets several core integration benchmarks for the unreleased headset hardware, rating the game as “Playable”. Functional elements include proper Steam Frame button glyphs, legible text rendering, and stable operation using default graphics configurations. However, the title's age prevents it from achieving a perfect verification tier.

Scoring notes from the system indicate that the 2011 title does not match the Steam Frame's native resolution. Furthermore, the entry cautions that players may experience degraded performance due to these resolution mismatches. While the Steam Controller has launched and the Steam Machine remains open for pre-orders, Valve hasn't shared official release details for the VR setup itself.

KitGuru says: It is interesting to see Valve setting up its compatibility layer ahead of the Steam Frame's launch. However, legacy titles might need updates to support the Frame's native resolution.

Valve finally gives update on Steam Controller shipments

19 June 2026 at 13:00

The Steam Controller officially launched last month but sold out within minutes, leading to scalpers attempting to charge console level prices for the gamepad alone. Valve quickly decided to put together a reservation queue system for future stock, but those who signed up to it have an incredibly long wait ahead.

Valve has now updated the Steam Controller reservation queue system to give those who signed up an estimated order window for their controller. I myself signed up on May 9th, roughly 15 hours after the reservations first went live. Despite being signing up within the first 24 hours, my estimated order window is December 2026.

Those who signed up on May 8th as soon as the reservation list went live should have better luck, as Valve is also planning another wave of shipments ‘by September 2026', but if you were a little late to the party like I was, then you'll be waiting until the end of this year at the earliest and there is potential that you'll be kept waiting much longer than that.

Chances are, standalone Steam Controller shipments have been deliberately slowed down so that Valve will have enough of them to bundle with the Steam Machine, which is expected to launch within the next few weeks.

There will be bundles of the Steam Machine with or without the controller, but the controller bundle is expected to be the most popular option due to its console-like functionality, enabling the user to switch the Steam Machine on with the press of a controller button, just like an Xbox or PlayStation system.

KitGuru Says: If the waiting list is this bad for the standalone controller, I dread to think what the situation is going to be like for the Steam Machine itself.

Steam Controller Review – It Just Works…Most of the Time

8 May 2026 at 16:00

A black Steam Controller is displayed on a plain background with the text 'STEAM CONTROLLER' above it.

The first of three new hardware products from Valve has finally arrived and is in players' hands, as the Steam Controller (2026) officially launched on May 4, 2026. When Valve first announced the controller alongside the Steam Machine and Steam Frame last year, it was cause for excitement. For anyone who remembers the first iteration of the Steam Controller (2015), 'excitement' for a new one isn't what you'd expect, but a lot has changed when it comes to Valve's hardware products since the Steam Controller V1 was discontinued in 2019. The biggest change, obviously, is the Steam Deck, which showed […]

Valve Strikes Back at Steam Controller Scalpers With Reservation Queue After Launch Day Sold Out in 30 Minutes

7 May 2026 at 18:09

A black Steam Controller is displayed on a plain background with the text 'STEAM CONTROLLER' above it.

Valve's launch of its new Steam Controller (2026) went great for the company, in the sense that Valve sold a lot of controllers. The entire run of stock that Valve had set aside for launch completely sold out within half an hour, and while many players were able to grab a controller, plenty more were unable to, unless they paid double the price for one on eBay, as scalpers quickly threw listings online with massively marked-up prices. Thankfully, Valve is looking to combat that outcome with some changes to its process. Beginning tomorrow on May 8, 2026, at 10am PT […]

Valve makes Steam Controller and Puck CAD files available for modders

7 May 2026 at 13:00

Valve has released official 3D CAD files for the Steam Controller and Puck to support the hardware modding community. The release of these files follows a launch in which the new controller sold out shortly after it became available.

The technical package is available under a Creative Commons license and includes STP and STL models for the external shell topology of both the controller and the Puck. Valve also provided engineering drawings detailing critical features and “keep out” zones to assist designers in maintaining signal strength and functional clearances for third-party accessories.

The CAD files are intended to facilitate the creation of custom grips, 3D-printed stands, and other physical modifications. While the files cover the hardware's surface topology, they do not include internal component designs. Modders can access the repository via GitLab to begin developing accessories for the new platform.

Valve admits Steam Controller ‘ran out faster than anticipated’

6 May 2026 at 14:00

The new Steam Controller launched on Monday as planned, but it sold out instantly and ended up in the hands of a number of scalpers trying to charge hundreds for it. Valve has admitted that demand was higher than it expected, but more stock is on the way.

In a message shared on social media, Valve said that the Steam Controller “ran out faster than we anticipated”, adding that the company hates that “not everyone who wanted one was able to get it”.

While some are now trying to flip the Steam Controller for hundreds of pounds in the UK, with similar pricing hitting the US and other regions, there is no need to pay these extortionate prices. Valve says that more stock is on the way and a timeline will be dropping soon.

Valve also appears to be preparing for its other hardware launches at the moment, with import records showing that tonnes of ‘game consoles' arrived on US shores this month.

Valve Scrambles to Restock Steam Controller After Launch Batch Vanishes in Minutes, Promises Timeline Update “Soon”

5 May 2026 at 16:40

A Steam Controller is displayed against a beige background with the text 'Steam Controller' above it.

Yesterday, Valve launched its Steam Controller (2026), the follow-up to its 2015 predecessor and an improvement based on the years of learning Valve took from developing that first controller, to the Steam Deck, and now this latest gamepad. The launch went about as well as you would hope if you're Valve. The 'Buy Now' button went live on Steam, the gamepad shot up to the top of the best-selling charts, and it sold out within minutes. The unfortunate part of that last bit was that it seems Valve wasn't fully prepared for a complete sell-out of the device. In an […]

Valve is importing a lot of ‘game consoles’ this month, indicating Steam Machine launch

5 May 2026 at 15:50

Last night, the Steam Controller officially hit the Steam store and immediately sold out. Scalpers are already trying to sell the gamepad for far above its market value, but a new wave of stock could be landing soon, as import records indicate that Valve is preparing to launch the Steam Machine or Steam Frame very soon.

According to import records seen by The Verge, since the start of May, Valve has imported nearly 50 tonnes of ‘Game Console' product into the US. This would indicate that the Steam Machine (or potentially the Steam Frame) will be launching soon, as Valve is actively readying stock.

Valve originally planned to launch the Steam Machine, Steam Frame and the new Steam Controller by March 2026, but due to volatility in the memory market driven by unprecedented demand from AI data centres, all three products were delayed. The Steam Controller eventually launched on its own as a standalone product this week but instantly sold out, indicating either extraordinary demand or low volume. Valve may have opted to reserve some Steam Controller supply to drop around the same time as its other devices.

Valve has two major pieces of hardware coming this year. The Steam Machine is a console-sized gaming PC, aimed at bringing the Steam Deck experience to the living room, with much more capable hardware for driving games at higher resolutions. The Steam Frame is a standalone VR headset, intended to allow gamers to play their PC VR games wirelessly, or enjoy their non-VR games on a cinema-sized screen within VR. The Steam Controller is designed to work well with both, while also being suitable for Steam Deck and traditional PCs.

Valve's latest Steam Controller, and the first of its previously announced new hardware products, has officially launched and is available for players to order directly through Steam. If you get through to one, that is, as the controller launched and promptly sold out within 30 minutes. Any new popular product release in video games or in any market today is a race to see whose connection worked faster or who could type in their credit card details faster, and the Steam Controller was no different. The new gamepad shot directly to the top of Steam's best-selling charts, and as quickly […]

The Steam Machine and Steam Frame Price Reportedly “Skyrocketed” Internally Thanks to RAM Shortage

28 April 2026 at 17:54

A black rectangular device labeled 'Steam Machine' with two USB ports and a power button on a beige background.

Yesterday, we got the official confirmation from Valve that the first of the three new hardware products it revealed last year, the Steam Controller, will launch in just a few days from the time of this writing on May 4, 2026, and it'll retail for $99 USD / $149 CAD / €99 / £85 / $149 AUD. While that price isn't entirely outrageous for modern premium controllers, Valve did confirm that it is higher than initially intended, and according to a well-known insider for information on Valve, the Steam Controller's $99 price tag is the least of our worries, and […]

Valve expects to share Steam Machine and Steam Frame news soon

28 April 2026 at 14:00

Valve says its upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame projects remain in development as the company works through shifting hardware timelines and a global memory shortage that is affecting everything from Steam Deck to future devices. In a new interview with IGN, Valve programmer Pierre‑Loup Griffais said progress is steady even if the company isn’t ready to commit to firm dates.

Griffais noted that Valve is “hard at work on trying to get them out the door” and expects to “roll out some news soon,” but reiterated that there are “no exact details about the timeline to share today.”

The broader challenge facing Valve is the ongoing memory shortage, which has pushed component prices higher and constrained supply chains across the industry. Griffais said Valve’s strategy is to diversify suppliers wherever possible. “We’re trying to make sure to keep options open and to work with as many different manufacturers as we can,” he explained, warning that relying on a single source would leave the company “downstream of potential shortages” in ways that could affect continuity of supply and end‑user pricing.

According to Griffais, this strategy has been part of Valve’s hardware philosophy from the beginning. “From the get‑go, we’ve been trying to make sure that we have many options,” he said, calling it “really useful in this kind of climate” because it allows the company to work with “all the big players and some of the smaller ones as well.”

He compared the current memory crunch to the microcontroller shortage during the COVID era, which hit industries from automotive to consumer PCs. Valve was able to keep products shipping then because it had designed for flexibility. “We were able to navigate that and keep some supply in a climate where maybe some other players were not able to do that,” Griffais said. He expects Valve to approach the memory shortage “the same way,” even if the underlying conditions are “pretty global” and difficult for any manufacturer to fully avoid.

KitGuru Says: It sounds like we can expect more Steam Machine and Steam Frame news as we get closer to the Summer. Unfortunately, there is still no word on how much this will end up costing amid all of the memory price adjustments going on week-to-week.

Valve’s new Steam Controller officially launching next week

28 April 2026 at 13:30

Following a wave of leaks over the weekend, Valve officially confirmed its launch plans for the Steam Controller last night. The controller is indeed launching next week, but it will be a pricey purchase compared to Valve's original gamepad.

While Valve's original Steam Controller launched at $50, the new one, which does have a number of major upgrades in design, features and material quality, will launch at $99 (£85) instead. The controller will be available starting on May 4th in the US, Canada, UK, EU, AUS, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Following the launch announcement, one of Valve's hardware engineers told Polygon in an interview that it made the decision to launch the controller early as the product is not impacted by the ongoing consumer RAM shortage.

The Steam Controller ships with a dedicated wireless charging puck, alongside a standard USB-C connector, magnetic thumbsticks, back-paddle buttons, improved shoulder and trigger buttons, an upgraded D-Pad compared to the Steam Deck and as much as a 35-hour battery life – a huge improvement over the similarly priced DualSense controller. Like the Steam Deck, the Steam Controller also has dual trackpads which can act as mouse controls, and Gyro controls built-in too.

KitGuru Says: I was originally planning to wait and get one of these with a Steam Machine but unfortunately that won't be possible. There is still no word on when Valve's other hardware products will launch.

Valve confirmed that the first of its previously announced hardware products, the Steam Controller, would be making its way to players next week on May 4, after several leaks had already ruined the surprise. While the aftermath of the official confirmation hasn't provided any meaningful updates on other upcoming bits of hardware like the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, we did get a slight update on the Steam Deck 2, of all things. It's been over four years since Valve boss Gabe Newell confirmed that yes, the company did indeed have plans for a Steam Deck 2. Since then, Valve […]

Valve Confirms Steam Controller Leaks (Release Date, Price), No Update on Steam Machine Yet, But Says “In General, Things Are Going Well”

27 April 2026 at 17:56

A black Steam Controller is displayed against a beige background with the text 'STEAM CONTROLLER' above it.

The first of the three new pieces of hardware that Valve announced back in November 2025 will arrive next week on May 4, 2026, and it would be a much bigger surprise if a review of the product hadn't leaked days ago. The Steam Controller, as we already learned, will arrive next week and be priced at $99 USD, and now Valve has officially confirmed the leaks. We also got an update on the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame, which is that Valve has no real updates to share for now, but programmer Pierre-Loup Griffais thinks "in general, things […]

Valve’s new Steam Controller could be just around the corner

27 April 2026 at 15:00

Over the past week, a number of leaks have pointed towards a near-term launch for the Steam Controller, one of three new hardware products that Valve announced in late 2025.

According to Japanese site, 4Gamer, the Steam Controller is going to launch on May 4th. It would appear that embargo timing was miscommunicated as around a similar time, a tech reviews channel, Techy Talk, uploaded an embargo-breaking review of the controller. Both the initial review and launch article have since been taken down, but the news already spread via community forums and outlets like Insider Gaming.

In the now deleted Steam Controller review, it was also claimed that the controller will cost $99.99 and size comparisons showed it to be very large compared to Xbox and PlayStation controllers.

As the announcement seems to have been delayed somewhere along the way, there is a chance that the Steam Controller doesn't launch on May 4th, but that was likely the plan at one point in the recent past. Valve itself has uploaded a secret Steam Controller unboxing video that it is waiting to unveil to the public.

The big question remains – will the Steam Machine or Steam Frame ship alongside the controller? Valve initially planned to launch all three products in a close timeframe, as they all share the same ecosystem and are designed to work together. However, in recent months, the consumer memory chip market has seen a tight squeeze, leading to hefty price increases. This ultimately led to Valve delaying its new hardware rollout to later in the year but the exact timing has remained unspecified.

KitGuru Says: At the very least, I would like to see the Steam Machine and Steam Controller launching at the same time, but as long as the Steam Controller remains in good supply whenever the Steam Machine does drop, then it won't be a huge issue.

Glowing Steam Controller Review Leaks Early, Revealing Price ($99), Strengths and Weaknesses of Valve’s Comeback Pad

25 April 2026 at 14:30

A Valve Steam Controller featuring the Steam logo, black D-pad, thumbsticks, and labeled buttons.

The pricing of the new Steam Controller has just been leaked by YouTuber Techy Talk, who uploaded a review of Valve's new device earlier. Some Internet user quickly downloaded it and reuploaded it on Streamable, which means we have access to information on the price and the reviewer's first impressions. The price is $99. This means the Steam Controller sits $25 above the DualSense's price, but, according to the reviewer, it offers substantially more functionality. Their conclusion is that no single controller can be perfect for every use case, but for anyone wanting one device that handles both gaming and […]
