Computex 2026: AMD announces new Ryzen X3D CPUs and RX 9070 GRE global launch

1 June 2026 at 13:10

Computex is underway, we've already seen Nvidia's announcements, now it is time to focus on AMD. At this year's event, AMD is focusing on new Ryzen X3D processors, as well as wider availability of RDNA 4 graphics cards, including the global rollout for the RX 9070 GRE.

To mark 10 years of the AM4 platform, AMD is re‑releasing the Ryzen 7 5800X3D 10th Anniversary Edition. The chip retains its Zen 3 architecture and 96MB of 3D V‑Cache, offering a drop‑in upgrade for AMD 400‑ and 500‑series motherboard users. The chip will be re-released on June 25th, with a price tag of $349.

AMD is also introducing the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, bringing 3D V‑Cache to a wider audience on AM5. The processor features 8 cores, 16 threads, 104MB of total cache and boost speeds up to 4.5GHz, with a 120W TDP. It arrives on July 16th for $329, a pretty significant price reduction on the 7800X3D, which launched at $449.

On the graphics side, AMD is taking the Radeon RX 9070 GRE to global markets. The RDNA 4‑based card targets QHD gaming with 12GB of memory, next‑generation Ray Accelerators and support for AMD’s latest FSR technologies. It becomes available worldwide on June 1st for $549.

While having access to the latest FSR technology is an important selling point, it is also worth noting that AMD recently announced plans to bring FSR 4.1 support to older GPUs, including RDNA 3 this summer and RDNA 2 in early 2027.

For professional workloads, AMD highlighted the Radeon AI PRO R9000 series, which now supports more than 50 certified applications across Windows and Linux, with additional certifications arriving in the next major Pro driver revision.

AMD also announced EXPO Ultra Low Latency memory profiles, offering an average 4% uplift over previous EXPO kits and up to 13% higher FPS compared to standard JEDEC speeds on Ryzen 7 9700X systems. Certified modules will be available from partners starting in June. We will be visiting a lot of companies at Computex this week, so we expect to see a few of these new EXPO Ultra Low Latency memory kits over the next few days.

Star Citizen releases $5000 β€˜concept’ ship as game crosses $1 billion in funding

25 May 2026 at 13:45

Star Citizen has been in development for over a decade at this stage. Since the initial crowdfunding campaign, around 6.5 million registered players have pumped more than $1 billion into the project, but the main game remains in alpha.Β

Since the initial crowdfunding campaign Star Citizen has raised the majority of its money through selling various ships, some of which have not yet been implemented into the game. As the $1 billion milestone was reached over the weekend,Β Cloud Imperium Games also announced a new $5000 spaceship for purchase, although the ship, known as the Anvil Odin capital ship, is currently in the concept stage and does not have a known release date.

According to CIG, the new Odin ship represents a major milestone for the Star Citizen team, as it is the final vehicle stretch goal established in Star Citizen's initial crowd funding campaign. As spotted by Eurogamer, one brave Star Citizen fan has already shelled out the $5000 for the new ship, saying that β€œdespite the game being buggy and broken at times” they are still happy with the game due to the number of hours they get out of it.

Star Citizen is a sandbox MMO, allowing players to group up and fly ships across a massive, simulated galaxy. Aside from the main Star Citizen game, CIG is also working on Star Citizen: Squadron 42, a single-player campaign with a star-studded cast of Hollywood voice actors. The game is apparently in β€˜the closing stages' of development now, but there is no final release date yet. Fans are hoping for a 2026 release, but CIG has yet to confirm this.

If you are curious about the state of Star Citizen and want to see it in action for yourself, then there is currently a free trial running until the 27th of May, allowing you to get into the game without making any purchases. During the free trial, you will get an RSI Aurora MK11 ship to fly for free, although other ships are also available to rent using in-game currency.

An AMD processor next to graphics with the text 'AMD CPPC HighestFreq'.

The upcoming ACPI support could allow OS like Windows and Linux read CPU frequencies directly without having to estimate them for optimal performance. AMD's New CPPC HighestFreq Could Improve CPU Scheduling on Future Ryzen Chips, Resulting in Better Responsiveness Traditionally, OS like Windows and Linux do not have the capability to read the CPU boost frequencies directly from the firmware, but the AMD CPPC HighestFreq could change this forever. The new feature reportedly would allow CPUs to directly report their real maximum boost frequencies to the operating systems through the firmware, which eliminates the need for frequency calculations by the […]

MSI AMD AM5 MAX Motherboard Showcase [2026]

6 May 2026 at 10:38

MSI has given its family of AMD 800-series motherboards an overhaul with a series of feature changes, named MAX. Some of these changes are cosmetic while others, such as the upgrade to the BIOS chip, offer support for future generations of AMD CPUs through Zen 6 and onwards to Zen 7.

10:40 Leo’s Thoughts

In our video we walk you through the changes that MSI has made with its MAX updates and in some instances, such as the MPG Carbon MAX WiFi, the updates are small but welcome. Other boards are entirely new models and this means the MEG X870E Ace MAX has arrived with the MAX features in place from day one.

The most impressive showcase for MSI MAX is the budget MAG B850 Gaming Plus MAX WiFi which gains the hardware updates and also receives a visual overhaul. The original B850 Gaming Plus looked a bit messy while the new MAX is clean and smart.

Closing Thoughts

MSI could have chosen to quietly update existing 800-series motherboards with new features such as a larger BIOS chip and the addition of an Overclocking engine, without any need for a series named MAX. In practice we doubt that would have worked well as AMD continues to bring out new CPUs for Socket AM5 which inevitably brings updates to BIOS files.

We are confident that certain models such as the original MPG X870E Carbon WiFi and MAG B850 Tomahawk WiFi will quietly disappear when stocks are sold. Other models – we're looking at you MAG X870E Tomahawk MAX WiFi PZ and MEG X870E Ace MAX – will doubtless have a long future through 2027 and perhaps into 2028.

KitGuru says: AMD's long term support for Socket AM5 is very welcome but it clearly gives motherboard manufacturers a significant headache, and MAX is the solution to that particular problem.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era surpasses 250,000 sales in first 24 hours

4 May 2026 at 14:00

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era has recouped its entire development budget within 24 hours of its Steam Early Access launch. Developer Unfrozen and publisher Hooded Horse confirmed the milestone following the game's release on April 30th, which saw the title surpass 250,000 copies sold during its first day on sale.

The game launched to a β€œVery Positive” reception on Steam, maintaining a 89% positive rating across almost 5,000 user reviews (at the time of writing). According to developer data, the title reached a concurrent player peak of over 50,000 users shortly after its debut. Before launch, Olden Era had secured a position in the top 10 most-wishlisted games on Steam, accumulating over 1.5 million wishlists.

Unfrozen stated in a Steam announcement that the launch success exceeded internal expectations. The studio noted that the initial release includes the first act of the narrative campaign, six playable factions (Temple, Necropolis, Sylvan, Dungeon, Hive, and an unrevealed sixth faction), and multiple multiplayer modes.

The project features creative advisory from series creator Jon Van Caneghem and music by original composer Paul Romero. While the game has met its development financial targets, Unfrozen intends to use Early Access feedback to address initial player reports on AI balancing and to complete the remaining campaign acts.
