The May 2026 Steam Hardware Survey reveals that Radeon RX 9070 XT and 9060 XT graphics cards have finally been registered in the database, nearly a year after their launch.

As spotted by Videocardz, the latest survey data shows that the RX 9070 XT has reached a 1.33% market share, while the RX 9060 XT has reached 0.72%. This marks the first appearance of RDNA 4 GPUs in the Steam Hardware Survey, which runs every month, although the exact number of Steam users polled is never really known. Nvidia alternatives currently hold higher positions on the charts, with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti slightly ahead at 1.73%. GPUs like the RTX 5070 and RTX 5060 Ti also continue to report monthly adoption gains.

The survey data also show that eight-core CPUs emerged as the fastest-growing segment, while six- and ten-core processors both dipped slightly. Still in this segment, AMD continues to increase its share against its competition, currently sitting at 45%.

Concurrently, a volatile pricing market has driven a resurgence in 16GB RAM systems over 32GB configurations, while SSDs larger than 1TB shrank by 1.23% as buyers moved back to smaller drives. Lastly, OS data show Windows rebounding by 0.38% against recent Linux gains, bringing the total market share to 94% Windows, 4% Linux, and 2% macOS. Though the up-and-coming CachyOS distro doubled its share to 0.5%, sitting just behind SteamOS at 0.9%.

ASRock has launched the AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE Steel Legend Dark 12GB OC graphics card, using the newly launched AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE GPU. Designed with a black-and-grey colour scheme, the new model features factory pre-overclocking and a triple-fan cooling system.

The underlying AMD Radeon RX 9070 GRE GPU is built on the AMD RDNA 4 architecture. It features 3rd Gen Raytracing and 2nd Gen AI accelerators, delivering up to 48 AMD RDNA 4 CUs. It also supports technologies such as AMD FSR Redstone and AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF).

ASRock has configured the Radeon RX 9070 GRE Steel Legend Dark 12GB OC with a boost clock of up to 2920MHz. To manage thermal performance, the card employs a triple-fan cooling design using the company's proprietary Striped Ring Fans, Air Deflecting Fin, and Ultra-fit Heatpipe technologies. Structural rigidity is handled by a reinforced metal frame and a metal backplate designed to prevent VGA sag.

For aesthetics, an ARGB LED panel is integrated into the side of the shroud, supporting Polychrome Sync lighting technology for user-customisable lighting effects.

Technically, this GPU launched over a year ago as a Chinese exclusive, but it is now rolling out globally. Offering what is essentially a cut-down RX 9070 die, the 9070 GRE features fewer cores, 4GB less memory and a narrower memory interface. But what does that mean for performance, and is it still worth buying? We find out today.

The RX 9070 GRE launched to little fanfare back in April 2025, given it was only on sale in China, but today AMD has announced global availability, with a $549 price tag. In the UK we're told to expect pricing in the £469-479 region, so it's a similar ballpark to the RTX 5070 that can be regularly found at £500.

Like the rest of the RDNA 4 family, there's no reference model, and instead we have tested the Sapphire Pulse edition. This card does come factory overclocked, but as regular readers will know, we manually test all GPUs at reference specifications for these day one reviews, so we can ensure that all testing is ‘apples to apples.'

First, let's take a quick look at the specs. The RX 9070 GRE is built on the same Navi 48 die as the RX 9070 and 9070 XT. It measures 357mm², and it's worth pointing out this is a monolithic chip, so AMD is not using a chiplet-based design as per RDNA 3. In total, Navi 48 silicon packs in 53.9 billion transistors.

While a full Navi 48 GPU packs in 64 Compute Units, the 9070 GRE is cut down to 48 CUs, and each CU houses 64 Stream Processors, for a total of 3072 shaders. There's also 48 Ray Accelerators – one per CU – and 96 ROPs.

As for clock speed, the RX 9070 GRE runs faster than the regular 9070, sporting a rated game clock of 2220MHz and a boost clock of up to 2790MHz.

The memory configuration is cut down however, with 12GB of GDDR6 memory clocked at 18Gbps, operating over a 192-bit memory interface, for total memory bandwidth of 432 GB/s. 48MB of Infinity Cache is also present.

Microsoft has expanded its Advanced Shader Delivery public preview to desktop and laptop PCs equipped with AMD RDNA 3, RDNA 3.5, and RDNA 4 graphics architectures. Initially introduced last year as an optimisation feature exclusive to Xbox ROG Ally and Ally X handhelds, the technology bypasses local shader compilation by matching and downloading precompiled shaders directly from a cloud-based registry at launch time.

The primary objective of the framework is to address first-launch wait times and in-game micro-stutters, two common pain points caused by on-device shader compilation following fresh game installations or GPU driver updates. By decoupling the shader compilation loop from local hardware routines, the system delivers tailored assets aligned specifically with the user's exact game version, operating system configuration, and graphics card family.

Playground Games' recently launched racing title, Forza Horizon 6, serves as the primary showcase for the expanded PC preview, with tests showing a 95% reduction in initial startup times with Advanced Shader Delivery enabled.

To use the feature during the current validation phase, users must meet multiple system and platform requirements. The target system must be running Windows 11 version 24H2 or higher with AMD Adrenalin graphics driver 26.5.2 or newer installed. Furthermore, because Microsoft manages the Precompiled Shader Database through its own deployment network, the feature is available only to titles downloaded via the official Xbox PC app or the Microsoft Store. Participants are also required to enroll in the Xbox Insider program to toggle the feature under the PC Gaming Preview menu tier.

KitGuru says: While Microsoft's Advanced Shader Delivery only works with AMD RDNA 3 and 4 GPUs, Intel (Precompiled Shader Distribution) and Nvidia (Auto Shader Compilation) also have similar solutions within their respective software suites.
