Blizzard Reveals a New Open World StarCraft Shooter at BlizzCon 2026, But It’s Much Further Away Than Anticipated

12 September 2026 at 19:30

A soldier stands facing a large mech suit with the text 'StarCraft Dominion' prominently displayed.

As expected, BlizzCon 2026's first game announcement during the Opening Ceremony was the long-rumored return of StarCraft. Dan Hay, a Blizzard GM/VP and former Ubisoft Montreal executive who helped shape Far Cry from Far Cry 3 through Far Cry 6 (including a stint as creative director on Far Cry 5), stepped on stage to reveal that he had first tried to join Blizzard as a youngster, only to be rejected. Two decades later, he received a call that gave him the chance to assemble a team and help bring back the studio's long-dormant sci-fi franchise. Hay's appearance also adds an […]

Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Fixes the Sequel’s Biggest Flaw, but Combat Still Fights the Player for Control

2 September 2026 at 19:00

A heavily armored knight from Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen confronts two characters in a snowy battlefield with a fierce white wolf by their side.

Oh, Dragon's Dogma 2. I had such hopes for that game after being thoroughly impressed with the original Dark Arisen, which led me to pine long years for a sequel. When CAPCOM finally announced it, I was overjoyed, to say the least, but the final game turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, not just for me but for many gamers. Sure, it was still fun and rightfully earned an 8/10 score in my review, but it could have been so much more. Instead, it looked like the developers were merely content with making it more like Dragon's […]

The Blood of Dawnwalker Review – Ex The Witcher 3 Developers Successfully Forge an Epic New Dark Fantasy RPG Saga

31 August 2026 at 15:01

Five characters from The Blood of Dawnwalker stand against an orange sunset backdrop, each in dynamic poses, with swords and mystical hand gestures, and the text 'Rebel Wolves'.

Over the last few years, hearing about a brand new studio created by decorated industry veterans behind award-winning titles has become almost a mainstay in gaming news coverage. How many times have we read a press release that began "from AAA veterans with long careers at BioWare, Bungie, Epic, Blizzard, Ubisoft, Bethesda", et cetera, et cetera? So many developers chose to chart their own path after shipping one or more big titles, either due to creative differences with management, a desire to take their career into their own hands, or a combination of the two. The thing is, most of […]

Sleeping Dogs film to get “some really positive updates soon” according to Simu Liu

24 July 2026 at 10:00

Sleeping Dogs is a highly underrated open-world GTA-like which released back in 2012 to overall solid reviews. In the years since, opinions on the title have only risen with time, owing to the game’s unique Hong Kong setting and fun melee-focused combat. While a sequel will likely never come to be, a film adaptation has been in the works for almost a decade in one form or another. Following a bout of silence, we have now gotten a positive update.

Sleeping Dogs publisher Square Enix has been trying to get a film adaptation made for years now, with the project originally said to be starring Donnie Yen. Announced back in 2017, we would see very little in the way of updates – up until early 2025 when it was confirmed that Yen was no longer attached to the project.

Fortunately, work on the project picked back up quite quickly, with Marvel’s Shang Chi actor Simu Liu confirming his involvement in the Sleeping Dogs adaptation.

Since then, work seemed to be progressing smoothly, with the film’s first draft script having been completed as of October 2025. Additionally, Director Timo Tjahjanto was announced to have joined the project in December of last year.

Sleeping Dogs Film

While we have not gotten any further updates since, Simu Liu recently took to Twitter to respond to one fan who wrote “replaying an all time favourite [Sleeping Dogs], @SimuLiu please do this game justice” stating: “hope to post some really positive updates soon. Stay tuned.”

So while we have not gotten any new concrete information, this latest post does lend some degree of confidence to the fact that Sleeping Dogs will one day turn into a hopefully-successful adaptation. We will have to wait and see whether Liu’s other dream – that being “a sequel game for everyone” also one day comes to fruition.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Sleeping Dogs? Is it the best non-GTA GTA-like? Would you like to see a sequel made, even though the original studio no longer exists? Let us know down below.

Media Molecule appears to be working on an open world game with foraging mechanics

27 May 2026 at 11:00

Of PlayStation’s many different first-party studios, Media Molecule is perhaps the most unique, with the team having released new, creative and experimental projects including LittleBigPlanet and most recently Dreams. While nothing is known officially regarding what the team is working on next, a new online listing seems to suggest that it could feature open world elements.

As reported by the publication mp1st, a CV published online by the senior environment designer at Media Molecule offers some interesting details on what to expect from the studio next.

According to the post, the dev’s duties included “Level blocking out main POls, moment-to-moment gameplay, forage design, and scripting various gameplay events”. Additionally, they also served as the “main contact/vision holder of various open-world content.”

Media Molecule Open world

For the uninitiated, while Media Molecule’s games do include their own internally-developed campaign of sorts, the primary function of LittleBigPlanet and Dreams were to serve as creation tools for users to have fun with.

Based on previous comments from Mm’s ex-studio head, it seems the team are learning more into offering a curated experience with their next game compared to their previous work. While having an open world does not necessarily mean that this new IP will be free from user-generated content, it’s clear that whatever they are working on will be quite different from their past output.

Activision is working on a new open world RPG for Xbox

26 May 2026 at 12:00

After acquiring Activision a few years ago, Microsoft formed a new studio under the Activision wing known as Elsewhere Entertainment. We didn't know what this team was working on for a long time, but that finally changed this week with new job listings pointing towards an RPG.

While Activision used to be a very varied publisher, with studios working on games across many different genres, in more recent years, the publisher has primarily utilised its studios to feed the Call of Duty machine. Now following the Microsoft acquisition, Activision's new Elsewhere Entertainment studio will break off from that trend and create its own original game.

As spotted by u/cat_statue on Reddit, two job listings have popped up at Elsewhere Entertainment, hinting at a multiplayer RPG being made. One job listing calls for a multiplayer design director focused on PvE content and RPG systems, while other job listings call for level designers and quest designers with experience working on AAA open world games and open world RPGs.

This project is also specifically listed as a new IP, so it won't be tied to any previous Activision works, or any dormant or active IP within the Xbox roster.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: It sounds a little like Activision wants its own Destiny-like game, years on from splitting up with Bungie. Now that the Destiny IP is essentially dead, there is a golden opportunity for another studio to come in and fill that gap in the market with something new.

Crimson Desert helps push Pearl Abyss to new record revenue highs

13 May 2026 at 11:00

Crimson Desert is currently one of the biggest success stories of 2026. Following a ton of pre-launch hype, the ambitious open-world title was met with some negativity due to awkward controls amongst other issues. Fortunately, many of these concerns were quickly quashed, with Crimson Desert going on to sell over 5 million copies. Owing to its success, publisher Pearl Abyss have now confirmed that Q1 2026 marked the best fiscal quarter in their company’s history.

Making the announcement as part of their latest fiscal earnings report, developer Pearl Abyss officially confirmed that “thanks to the global success of its new title Crimson Desert, the company achieved the highest quarterly revenue in its history” – representing an increase of just under 420% year-over-year.

Even more impressive is the fact that net profit saw an increase of over 31,000% year-over-year.

Regarding Crimson Desert in particular, Pearl Abyss revealed that the title had generated 81% of the company’s revenue – with the other 19% being attributed to their ongoing MMO Black Desert.

Pearl Abyss Fiscal

Despite being a PC tech showpiece, the platform breakdown for Crimson Desert is surprisingly even, with the revenue split between consoles and PC said to be at exactly 50%.

Regionally, Crimson Desert has found far more success in the West, with Pearl Abyss revealing that ‘overseas sales’ accounted for 94% of total revenue for the period (with 81% percent coming from North America and Europe.)

Pearl Abyss was already trucking along quite healthily thanks to the ongoing success of Black Desert. Even so, it is clear that Crimson Desert has made a big impact not only across the industry itself, but also for the studio’s bottom line. It will be interesting to see where the game goes from here.

KitGuru says: What do you think of Crimson Desert so far? Is it your current GOTY? Let us know your thoughts down below.
