Nintendo Debuts New Animated Short “Close to You” with No Explanation, Speculation Points to Pikmin Tease

7 October 2025 at 14:40

Animated baby character walking in a playroom with colorful blocks and toys.

Nintendo has debuted a new animated short titled "Close to You" with absolutely no explanation as to what it means. The short was simultaneously uploaded to the Nintendo Today app, the company's social media channels, and its YouTube channel, each with nothing more than its title to accompany it. Of course, wild speculation online immediately followed the video's publishing, with fans going in a few directions based on the video's contents and what seem to be subtle hints regarding what it could mean. The video itself is a nearly four-minute short of a baby following a magical soother around the […]

Nintendo asks for $4.5 million default judgment against ex-Reddit mod accused of pirating thousands of games — "Archbox" allegedly asked for donations for faster access to his stolen library

Nintendo is suing a Reddit mod for $4.5 million over Switch piracy, arguing that he sold "thousands, if not hundreds of thousands" of illegally-acquired games online. James "Archbox" Williams never responded to Nintendo's cease-and-desist last year, which has now spiralled into a default judgment.

Nintendo Switch 2 supports two different types of Nvidia DLSS — A second, 'light' version for upscaling beyond 1080p, along with the standard, PC-like CNN model

Nintendo apparently includes two different versions of DLSS on the Switch 2, corroborating long-standing rumors of a custom DLSS present on the console. Digital Foundry's latest testing reveals that the second, 'light' version of DLSS can upscale beyond 1080p at the cost of an inferior image while in motion.

Palworld Crossed a Line That Shouldn’t Be Crossed, Says Ex CAPCOM Designer

2 October 2025 at 11:30

Palworld vs. Pokémon text overlaid on a background of a grassy landscape with two animated creatures.

Following Pocketpair's announcement that it would launch version 1.0 of Palworld in 2026, industry veteran Yoshiki Okamoto, who has worked for a long time as a designer at CAPCOM on series like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Mega Man, Dino Crisis, and more, shared his opinion on the situation with Nintendo's Pokémon in a video message posted on his personal YouTube channel. I personally believe Palworld crossed a line that should not be crossed, and I don't want the world to become a place where this kind of thing is acceptable. I don't want it to be like, it's okay because […]

Multiple LEGO games seemingly leaked for Nintendo Switch 2

29 September 2025 at 09:00

The Nintendo Switch 2 has been a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to releasing 3rd-party titles for the console, with various developers complaining about a lack of Switch 2 dev kits. That said, it seems as though the LEGO-focused TT Games could be gearing up for a deluge of Switch 2 ports – seemingly teasing just under half a dozen upcoming upgrades.

As part of the Nintendo Switch 2 booth at the Swiss gaming convention Zurich Popcon (captured by multiple Twitter users), 5 different TT Games-developed LEGO titles were listed under a Switch 2 banner, suggesting that they will receive native Switch 2 ports/upgrades:

  • LEGO City Undercover
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
  • LEGO Jurassic World
  • LEGO Harry Potter
  • LEGO DC Super-Villains

Nintendo TT Games

Of course, we will have to wait until official ports are announced, but it seems quite evident that TT Games are planning to drop Switch 2 upgrades for a ton of its games.

Whether these will be free or paid upgrades, we will have to wait and see.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: Are you excited to see LEGO games coming to Switch 2? Which of the leaked titles would benefit most from an upgrade? Do you think the upgrades will be free, paid or might there not even be an upgrade path? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Yooka-Replaylee on Switch 2 runs at just 30fps due to “limited time with the development kits”

26 September 2025 at 11:00

While the Nintendo Switch 2 is undeniably more powerful than the OG Switch, its current performance output has been somewhat mixed – especially when it comes to 3rd-party titles. In an unfortunate announcement, the team at Playtonic have confirmed that Yooka-Replaylee on Switch 2 runs at just 30 fps.

Ahead of the game’s launch on the 9th of October, the team at Playtonic released over 20 minutes of gameplay footage of Yooka-Replaylee running on the Nintendo Switch 2. While the game looks good, fans noticed that it appeared to be running at just 30 frames per second.

Taking to Twitter to address this, the team wrote: “To provide players the best possible looking and seamless version of the game, Yooka-Replaylee will be running at a consistent 30fps on Nintendo Switch 2 both in handheld and docked mode.”

Yooka-Replaylee Switch 2

Interestingly, it seems as though Nintendo’s reluctance to give out development kits is partly to blame, with Playtonic explaining “Due to limited time with the development kits, we're investigating the possibility of implementing a performance mode to follow some time post launch.”

On a similar note, unlike all other platforms, there is currently no demo of Yooka-Replaylee for Nintendo's console, though the team are planning to offer one “post-launch.”

Switch 2’s potential seems to be held back by many of Nintendo’s odd decisions. Hopefully studios will be able to optimise their titles as they become more familiar with the dev kits / platform.

Doug Bowser Is Retiring as Nintendo of America President, Will Be Replaced by Devon Pritchard

25 September 2025 at 21:41

Bowser character next to a man in a suit on a stage.

For years (since 2019, to be exact), the Nintendo of America president was Bowser. Not really the fictional King of the Koopas, but Doug Bowser, a man who was practically destined to work at Nintendo with that kind of last name. That era is coming to an end, however, as Doug Bowser and Nintendo have announced he will retire at the end of 2025 from his role as president of NOA and chief operating officer. Devon Pritchard, the executive vice president of revenue, marketing, and consumer at Nintendo, will be taking his place. Along with Bowser leaving his role and […]

Mario Kart World update addresses many major fan complaints

25 September 2025 at 09:15

Mario Kart World was received pretty well when it first launched alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. That said, in the months since, various complaints have started to pile up, with Nintendo seemingly uninterested in resolving any of them. Fortunately, in a surprise announcement, the console maker has now released a massive patch for Mario Kart World – addressing many of the biggest issues.

Patch 1.3.0 for Mario Kart World is available now for all to download and enjoy, bringing with it a ton of bug fixes, tweaks, and some majorly requested additions/changes. The full patch notes can be found HERE, but some of the most notable include:

  • The ‘Free Roam’ map now displays the locations of P Switches you've run over and Peach Medallions you've obtained
  • You can now join friends playing ‘Knockout Tour’ by selecting ‘Friends’ from ‘Online Play’
  • Up to 2 players can now play ‘Free Roam’ while waiting if the game was full when trying to join friends
  • Increased the invincible time after spinning or crashing during a race
  • Further increased the frequency of lap-type courses appearing in the selection when choosing the next course in ‘VS Race’ and wireless races

Mario Kart World

Easily the most vocal complaint which players have had with Mario Kart World is the relative inability to play lap-type courses in the online multiplayer, with the dozens of intermission courses hogging up its map pool.

Of course, Nintendo claimed to have fixed this in the past, to no avail, and so we will have to wait until more testing is performed by players to see whether the issue has truly been resolved.

Beyond this, the addition of P Switch and Peach Medallion tracking is a welcome addition – though one which is surprising to see Nintendo add given that it was a specific design decision.

All that said, this patch seems to be a major step forward for Mario Kart World – and it couldn’t have come at a better time, with SEGA’s Sonic Racing Crossworlds having recently released to high praise. It will be interesting to see what other changes Nintendo has in store for MK World.

Borderlands 4 delayed on Switch 2 at the last minute

24 September 2025 at 14:15

Just days before the planned launch, Gearbox has now delayed Borderlands 4 for the Switch 2. No new release date has been announced and anyone who pre-ordered the game digitally will be automatically refunded.

In a statement shared late last night, Gearbox stated that the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 “needs additional development and polish time”. The delay is highly unusual, as the game was scheduled to release on the 3rd of October. Typically, when games are delayed, the announcement comes a few months before the planned release, but in this instance, the announcement came just nine days before the planned release.

Here is the full statement from Gearbox:

“Greetings, Vault Hunters – We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans.”

The studio added that “in according with Nintendo's policy, all digital pre-orders will be cancelled”. You can either cancel your pre-order yourself or wait until September 26th for the refund to be issued automatically.

There is currently no word on how long the Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 will be delayed for, or if it is still planned to release in 2025.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Considering that there were reports of very rough Switch 2 gameplay at Gamescom a month ago, this delay isn't surprising. However, the timing of the delay certainly is. This should have been announced weeks ago.

Nintendo Says Game Mods Don’t Count as “Prior Art” in Its Lawsuit Against Palworld Dev PocketPair

19 September 2025 at 17:35

Animated character with jackal-like features using a glowing power in a desert setting.

Nintendo is well known for the litigious lengths it will go to, and its legal battle against Palworld developer PocketPair is just the latest major example of the company's legal team pushing things as far as they can. It launched its suit almost exactly a year ago at the time of this writing, and as the battle has ensued, Nintendo has changed the patents it claims PocketPair is infringing to try to better align them with its arguments, successfully acquired new patents to better stack its claims, and now, the latest argument being made to answer PocketPair's attempt to use […]

Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 Is More Than a Simple Port Running at a Higher Resolution

Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will be more than simple ports of the original running at a higher resolution, as they will feature some noticeable visual improvements. In a new video shared online today on YouTube, GVG compared the footage released so far, which includes a five-minute-long uninterrupted gameplay video shared on the official website, detailing some of the unspecified visual improvements confirmed shortly after the collection's announcement. Among these are some significantly improved textures, though not all of them will be enhanced, judging by the footage, improved fonts, and re-rendered cutscenes with a new aspect ratio, which look better even […]

Resident Evil 7, Village and Requiem all coming to Switch 2 in February

15 September 2025 at 15:30

While Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village are already ‘playable' on the Nintendo Switch, the games are only available in cloud form, meaning they don't run natively on the Switch hardware. Now with the much more powerful Switch 2 on the market, Capcom can finally bring native versions of these games to Nintendo's home console hybrid platform.

On February 27th 2026, Resident Evil 7 and its sequel, Resident Evil Village, will launch on Switch 2. The games will contain feature parity with the other console versions of the game and better yet, Switch 2 owners will be able to catch up on the story in time for Resident Evil Requiem, the grand finale to this trilogy of games.

Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) will also release on Switch 2 on February 27th 2026, the same day as other platforms. Recent rumours suggest that the Resident Evil Remakes will also come to Switch 2, but it seems that we won't get confirmation on that until next year.

Currently, the Resident Evil Remake series spans three games – Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4. There is no word on whether Capcom will continue with the remakes for Resident Evil 5 and 6.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Resident Evil has always been popular on Nintendo platforms, so this news should come as no surprise. Hopefully those remakes aren't too far off either.

Super Mario Galaxy Switch bundle to cost £70

15 September 2025 at 14:00

While we aren't getting a new 3D Mario game for the series' 40th Anniversary, we are getting re-releases for two of the best 3D Mario games of all time – Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. Like most new games nowadays, the price is raising eyebrows, with the package costing more than Nintendo's previous 3D All Stars collection.

As reported by VGC, the Super Mario Galaxy collection for Switch and Switch 2 will retail for £70, costing a hair under £35 for each game. This is more expensive than the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection, which included Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario 64, and sold for £60 at launch.

While not billed as a remaster, the Super Mario Galaxy collection for Nintendo Switch will include a number of improvements. The game should run at a higher resolution compared to the original Nintendo Wii version. The game has also been expanded with some additional story content, all contained in Rosalina's Book, a mechanic that was originally introduced in Super Mario Galaxy 2 but will now be present in both games on Switch.

Nintendo has confirmed that it plans to release both games as separate purchases digitally on the Switch eShop.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Super Mario Galaxy ranks highly amongst the best games in the franchise. Still, a £70 asking price is a tough pill to swallow for games well over a decade old.

Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy confirmed for multiplatform release

14 September 2025 at 09:45

The long wait for Xbox and Nintendo fans is finally over. Square Enix has announced that the console exclusivity for its Final Fantasy VII Remake saga is ending. The first part of the trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, is officially coming to Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch 2 on January 22, 2026.

In an even bigger reveal, Square Enix confirmed that this is not a one-off port. The entire trilogy, including the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and the currently in-development third and final game, are all confirmed to be launching on Xbox and Switch 2 in the future.

These new versions of Intergrade will also launch with a brand new “streamlined progression” setting. This is essentially a “god mode” that gives the player limitless HP, MP, and special attacks, with every hit dealing 9999 damage. Director Naoki Hamaguchi explained that this was added for “players who want to be able to enjoy the battles and exploration more casually while they really focus on that story”, effectively creating an easy story mode for those who find the hybrid combat system challenging.

Like the console and PC versions, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade bundles the original 2020 RPG with its Intermission DLC, which stars the fan-favourite ninja, Yuffie Kisaragi.

Cozy Farming Pokémon Spin-Off Game Pokémon Pokopia from Koei Tecmo Announced, Arriving 2026

12 September 2025 at 15:22

Pokémon Pokopia title screen with Available 2026 text and Nintendo Switch logo.

Pokémon Pokopia is a new spin-off Pokémon game from Koei Tecmo, where you play as the Pokémon Ditto, who has taken the shape of a human and learns different moves from various Pokémon to build up a farm in a cozy, almost Animal Crossing-like type game. It's easily one of the oddest Pokémon spin-off games in the history of Pokémon spin-off games, if only for Ditto's blank expression setting the tone for the whole game. A blog post on the official Pokémon Company website calls it "Pokémon's first life simulation game." You'll collect materials, craft items, grow crops, host more […]
