4 September 2026 at 14:35

A promotional image announces 'The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct' on 9.8.2026 and 'Nintendo Direct' on 9.9.2026, both occurring at 7:00 AM PT | 10:00 AM ET.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is one of the few games launching in 2026 that still lacks a precise release date. The first of the two Nintendo Direct events scheduled for next week will be a The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, which will air […]

Limited Edition Zelda-themed Switch 2 console has leaked online

12 August 2026 at 10:00

Though the practice may have subsided somewhat in recent years, Nintendo is known for releasing various themed versions of its consoles based on the company’s wide suite of popular IPs. Following recent reports that the console maker is working on a limited edition The Legend of Zelda themed Switch 2 – photos of the product in question have now leaked online.

With 2026 marking the 40th anniversary of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise, there had been plenty of leaks and rumours claiming that the console maker was working on a themed Switch 2 and Pro controller to celebrate.

At the time, little was known regarding its design, with insiders simply claiming that it is being structured around Zelda as a whole – and not the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. As shared by ResetEra user β€˜jojoroy’ however, we’ve now gotten a first look at both bits of hardware via their box art.

Switch 2 Zelda

While perhaps somewhat messier than some might like, both the Switch 2 and Pro Controller feature an even blend of black, gold and forest green colours, including iconography of the Triforce and Hylian crest.

As with pretty much all limited edition Zelda consoles, expect that 40th anniversary offering to be in high demand once it is officially announced.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of these leaked designs? How does it compare to the Switch 1’s Zelda console? Across its history, which Zelda Edition console remains your favourite? Let us know down below.

The long-rumored The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is among the few games launching in 2026 still lacking a solid release date. While there's a high likelihood the remake of what is considered one of the best games of all time will clash directly with GTA 6 this November, Nintendo is keeping a tight lid on when the highlight of the year's Nintendo Switch 2 release schedule will launch. However, the announcement may be right around the corner, as designs for the limited-edition console and Pro Controller meant to celebrate the series' 40th anniversary have leaked online. Nintendo Bets Its Future on the Past, as Miyamoto Ties Remakes directly to Brand-New Development Projects

24 July 2026 at 08:00

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto in a suit poses with Fox McCloud, a character from the Star Fox remake video game, against a sky background.

Nintendo's legendary game designer, Shigeru Miyamoto, has surprisingly elected to speak on the subject of the company's frequent game remakes. Speaking in the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu (as translated by Nintendo Everything), Miyamoto-san admitted that Nintendo has been doing a lot of remakes, but also took the time to explain why it makes sense: Some people might say there are a lot of remakes, but after five years, a lot of people have outgrown games and stop playing them. Young people today don’t have the opportunity to play games from 10 years ago, so remaking them to be […]

Internet sleuths have discovered from a GameStop search engine result that Nintendo may be opening pre-orders for the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on August 4. If so, that could mean we'd finally get proper footage of the game, which was only briefly teased during June's Nintendo Direct. Fans have been literally salivating ever since the rumors started in earnest this March. However, details have been scarce, to say the least. The only other thing we got was a quickly scrubbed description on Nintendo's official website: The N64 classic reborn as a full remake for Nintendo […]

A collage of video game characters, including a female warrior with orange hair, a sleeping elf-like child, a determined female face, an enraged Wolverine, and a gritty soldier, depicting a range of gaming themes.

Another Summer Game Fest has come and gone, though we're still feeling the ripple effects of everything that was just announced. Part of that comes in the form of looking at what resonated the most with players, and as part of a report from The Game Business, marketing analytics firm LevelUp has the answer for the games that garnered the most engagement from players and press, and none of the top-10 games are a surprise. That's because they're all big, triple-A juggernauts that would've been the most-talked-about games regardless of where they showed up. Not a single indie game broke […]
