In a somewhat uncommon practice for the console maker, Nintendo announced that it would be hosting two separate Direct Showcases on back-to-back days, with a Zelda-focused stream going live later today followed by a general showcase tomorrow. As with pretty much all Directs, leakers have come out to give insight into what to expect – with claims that Mario Kart World DLC, Luigi’s Mansion 4 and much more could be announced.

As reported by known Nintendo leaker ‘malo932’, the Switch maker has a ton of new entries in well-loved franchises currently in the works. While this should of course be taken with a big pinch of salt (especially as the claims have since been deleted), the insider suggested that Mario Kart World will be getting Star Fox-themed DLC next year, in alignment with a new Adventure-styled original Star Fox game.

Beyond this, Malo932 also hinted at the possibility for a new entry in the iconic Nintendogs series – a franchise not seen since the 3DS. Additionally, a new original Super Smash Bros. title is said to also be in the works.

Another known Nintendo leaker – NecroFelipe – appeared to corroborate Malo’s report while also claiming that Luigi’s Mansion 4 may be announced soon.

Of course, this does not mean that all of the above will be present at the upcoming Nintendo Direct. That said, given the fact that the Switch 2’s upcoming slate of first-party releases is somewhat sparse, it is high time for a major Direct showcase. Hopefully Nintendo does not disappoint.

Following recent reports that the console maker is working on a limited edition The Legend of Zelda themed Switch 2 – photos of the product in question have now leaked online.

With 2026 marking the 40th anniversary of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise, there had been plenty of leaks and rumours claiming that the console maker was working on a themed Switch 2 and Pro controller to celebrate.

At the time, little was known regarding its design, with insiders simply claiming that it is being structured around Zelda as a whole – and not the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. As shared by ResetEra user ‘jojoroy’ however, we’ve now gotten a first look at both bits of hardware via their box art.

While perhaps somewhat messier than some might like, both the Switch 2 and Pro Controller feature an even blend of black, gold and forest green colours, including iconography of the Triforce and Hylian crest.

As with pretty much all limited edition Zelda consoles, expect that 40th anniversary offering to be in high demand once it is officially announced.

While the Switch 2 has yet to see any such hardware, reports have claimed that the console maker is gearing up to release its first limited edition Switch 2 in alignment with the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise. So far, the company has been somewhat quiet on the matter, with the only bits of Zelda-related news being official confirmation of the previous-rumoured Ocarina of Time Remake alongside some early looks at the upcoming live-action film.

According to insiders however, part of the anniversary celebrations will include the release of limited edition hardware, with known leaker ‘Shpeshal Nick’ taking to social media to claim that both a Zelda themed Switch 2 Pro controller and Switch 2 console are currently planned.

Details on these products remain light, but according to Nick these systems will be “Zelda themed’ and “not necessarily” tied to Ocarina of Time specifically.

Either way, we should hopefully learn about these new products sooner rather than later, with the aforementioned OoT remake slated to arrive this year – and the live-action film penned for Spring of next year – meaning a dedicated Zelda Direct should be impending.

Following the overwhelming success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie Nintendo officially confirmed that work was underway on a film adaptation of their 2nd most iconic franchise: The Legend of Zelda. Initially announced to be hitting cinemas in May of next year, Nintendo have now revealed that the film will be arriving slightly earlier than initially claimed.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the upcoming Zelda film has been brought forward slightly from its initial release slot, writing:

“This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There's less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”

While we did not get any further details on why the project has been moved up, it is not an uncommon practice in the film industry, and so is likely simply a matter of logistics.

May and June of 2027 are pretty stacked film-wise, with projects including the likes of Paranormal Activity; Star Wars: Starfighter; Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Shrek 5 all set to arrive during this two month period, and so perhaps Nintendo / Sony Pictures are simply trying to give the Zelda film a bit of extra leeway.

In the wake of the overwhelming success of the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo were quick to announce that they are also working on a Legend of Zelda film. It appears as though the project is progressing smoothly, with filming said to have now officially been wrapped-up ahead of its expected May 2027 premiere date.

Making the announcement at CinemaCon 2026 (and reported by the Japanese publication ‘denfaminicogamer’) production on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie has officially hit a new milestone, with the team having now concluded their filming stage of the project.

In case you missed it, shooting for the film first began back in early November of last year in which we got our first looks at Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

With the film’s shooting now officially concluded, the project will be moving to its post-production stage. This of course involves a ton of work still, including editing; sound design; visual effects; colour grading and much more.

Still, this latest milestone is worthy of note, and suggests that The Legend of Zelda film will likely make its current scheduled release date of the 7th of May 2027.

Nintendo has already seen a ton of success in the film space, with the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie raking in over $1.3 Billion at the box office (and its sequel well on its way to cracking a Billion).

While it is unlikely that the Zelda movie will be as lucrative financially, here’s to hoping that its critical reception manages to supersede that of Mario Bros.
