Nintendo held its Zelda Direct today, giving us a fresh look at the Ocarina of Time remake. The new trailer shows off the classic adventure in a completely updated art style and confirms a 5th November release date for Switch 2 consoles.

While Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom leaned into a slightly cartoonish look, the Ocarina of Time remake goes for something a little more grounded. Rock and stone surfaces have a more realistic texture, foliage looks closer to real vegetation, and the lighting gives the world a slightly more natural tone. However, based on the gameplay footage, it also appears that the remake will adopt similar controls and combat to Nintendo’s newer 3D Zelda titles.

Ocarina of Time is widely regarded as one of the most important games in Nintendo’s history. It set the template for 3D action‑adventure design, introduced systems that shaped the series for decades, and remains a fan‑favourite entry that routinely appears near the top of “greatest games of all time” lists. Bringing it back with a full remake is a major moment for the franchise, and it should help introduce the game to a much wider audience on modern hardware.

With the release date now locked in, Nintendo is clearly positioning Ocarina of Time as one of the Switch 2’s big holiday-season exclusives. However, there is also a rumour that we may also see a new Metroid game too, so we'll be keeping our eyes on tomorrow's general Nintendo Direct.

In a somewhat uncommon practice for the console maker, Nintendo announced that it would be hosting two separate Direct Showcases on back-to-back days, with a Zelda-focused stream going live later today followed by a general showcase tomorrow. As with pretty much all Directs, leakers have come out to give insight into what to expect – with claims that Mario Kart World DLC, Luigi’s Mansion 4 and much more could be announced.

As reported by known Nintendo leaker ‘malo932’, the Switch maker has a ton of new entries in well-loved franchises currently in the works. While this should of course be taken with a big pinch of salt (especially as the claims have since been deleted), the insider suggested that Mario Kart World will be getting Star Fox-themed DLC next year, in alignment with a new Adventure-styled original Star Fox game.

Beyond this, Malo932 also hinted at the possibility for a new entry in the iconic Nintendogs series – a franchise not seen since the 3DS. Additionally, a new original Super Smash Bros. title is said to also be in the works.

Another known Nintendo leaker – NecroFelipe – appeared to corroborate Malo’s report while also claiming that Luigi’s Mansion 4 may be announced soon.

Of course, this does not mean that all of the above will be present at the upcoming Nintendo Direct. That said, given the fact that the Switch 2’s upcoming slate of first-party releases is somewhat sparse, it is high time for a major Direct showcase. Hopefully Nintendo does not disappoint.

Nintendo typically holds a Direct showcase every September, and this year will be no different. Nintendo has announced plans for back-to-back Direct streams next week, one focused on Zelda, and another for everything else.

The Legend of Zelda turns 40 years old this year. As part of the anniversary celebrations, Nintendo has a remake of The Ocarina of Time coming out for the Switch 2. On top of that, Nintendo is currently working on a Zelda film and there could be a few more surprises to reveal too. The Zelda-focused Direct stream is happening on September 8th at 3PM UK time.

There will be an even longer ‘general' Nintendo Direct stream the next day, on September 9th. This showcase will focus on new third-party and first-party titles coming to Switch 2 over the next six months or so. We will likely get a new trailer for Fire Emblem here, ahead of the game's launch on September 17th.

With Fire Emblem and Ocarina of Time Remake, Nintendo has a busy end to the year ahead. However, there will also be a long list of major third-party games also arriving, including the likes of Final Fantasy Resonance, The Duskbloods, 007 First Light and more.

With 2026 marking the 40th anniversary of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise, there had been plenty of leaks and rumours claiming that the console maker was working on a themed Switch 2 and Pro controller to celebrate.

At the time, little was known regarding its design, with insiders simply claiming that it is being structured around Zelda as a whole – and not the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. As shared by ResetEra user ‘jojoroy’ however, we’ve now gotten a first look at both bits of hardware via their box art.

While perhaps somewhat messier than some might like, both the Switch 2 and Pro Controller feature an even blend of black, gold and forest green colours, including iconography of the Triforce and Hylian crest.

As with pretty much all limited edition Zelda consoles, expect that 40th anniversary offering to be in high demand once it is officially announced.

While the Switch 2 has yet to see any such hardware, reports have claimed that the console maker is gearing up to release its first limited edition Switch 2 in alignment with the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda franchise. So far, the company has been somewhat quiet on the matter, with the only bits of Zelda-related news being official confirmation of the previous-rumoured Ocarina of Time Remake alongside some early looks at the upcoming live-action film.

According to insiders however, part of the anniversary celebrations will include the release of limited edition hardware, with known leaker ‘Shpeshal Nick’ taking to social media to claim that both a Zelda themed Switch 2 Pro controller and Switch 2 console are currently planned.

Details on these products remain light, but according to Nick these systems will be “Zelda themed’ and “not necessarily” tied to Ocarina of Time specifically.

Either way, we should hopefully learn about these new products sooner rather than later, with the aforementioned OoT remake slated to arrive this year – and the live-action film penned for Spring of next year – meaning a dedicated Zelda Direct should be impending.

It looks like the rumours were correct, Nintendo is indeed developing a full remake for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. 

Announced at the end of today's Nintendo Direct showcase, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 consoles later this year. Based on the short teaser trailer, the game will be going with a more realistic style compared to recent games like Breath of the Wild or the Link's Awakening remake.

There is no exact release date yet but the game is set to land this year. Chances are, Nintendo kept this trailer short in order to save something for its upcoming Zelda 40th Anniversary stream, where we should get a bit of a better look at the game, rather than just a brief shot of Link.

This isn't the first time that Ocarina of Time has seen a re-release. Nintendo also had a special version of the game for the 3DS back in the day, but this time around, we should get a much more impressive graphical overhaul.

Following the overwhelming success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie Nintendo officially confirmed that work was underway on a film adaptation of their 2nd most iconic franchise: The Legend of Zelda. Initially announced to be hitting cinemas in May of next year, Nintendo have now revealed that the film will be arriving slightly earlier than initially claimed.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the upcoming Zelda film has been brought forward slightly from its initial release slot, writing:

“This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There's less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”

While we did not get any further details on why the project has been moved up, it is not an uncommon practice in the film industry, and so is likely simply a matter of logistics.

May and June of 2027 are pretty stacked film-wise, with projects including the likes of Paranormal Activity; Star Wars: Starfighter; Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Shrek 5 all set to arrive during this two month period, and so perhaps Nintendo / Sony Pictures are simply trying to give the Zelda film a bit of extra leeway.

In an unexpected announcement last week, Nintendo officially unveiled Star Fox: A remake of the 1997 N64 classic coming to Switch 2 in just over a month’s time. While a surprise to many, the title was technically leaked prior to its official announcement. According to the same insider, half a dozen other secret titles are currently in the works, including a new 3D Mario game scheduled for 2027.

Prior to its official announcement by Nintendo, leaker malo932 shared a list of roughly half a dozen Switch 2 titles which were said to be in the works. One of these games was reportedly a ‘classic’ Star Fox title set to arrive in June.

With Nintendo now officially announcing the remake, it stands to reason that the remainder of the leaks are also true. Of course, the list should still be taken with a pinch of salt. That said, according to the insider Nintendo has at least half a dozen other games in the works:

• A Star Fox Adventure game (sometime after 2026)
• The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake (2026)
• New Switch Sports game (Summer 2026)
• New 3D Mario game (2027)
• Wario Land revival (possibly 2027)
• Super Metroid Remake (said to be “close” to announcement)

A number of these leaked titles were also later shared by known insider NateTheHate, lending further credence to their existence.

Nintendo’s strategy for the Switch 2 so far has been somewhat unusual, with the console maker focusing heavily on releasing Switch 2 Editions of past titles. That said, assuming these leaks to be true, Nintendo could have a pretty big 2027 – especially with a new 3D Mario reportedly on its way.

Depending on which Nintendo IP you prefer, the first year for the Switch 2 has either been great or disappointing, with notable franchises missing from the console’s launch year line-up. That said, the next 12 or so months could see a number of fan-favourite IPs make their Switch 2 debut, with insiders claiming that a Zelda game is scheduled to release in 2027 – with Smash Bros. coming “in the next year or two.”

As reported by ‘Kiwi Talkz’ (known best for their in-depth game dev interviews), Nintendo is set to have a pretty big 2027/28, taking to Twitter to claim that their “4 favourite game franchises of all time” are set to “have stuff coming either soon or in a year or two.”

Expanding on this, Kiwi Talkz then claimed that 3 of these 4 are Nintendo properties, with “another Metroid game on the near horizon, Smash Bros in the next year or two and another Zelda game & the movie in 2027.”

It is worth noting that this does not mean that each of these franchises are set to receive major new additions, with the insider clarifying that these titles could be brand new entries; spin-offs; remasters or even something as basic as Nintendo Switch Online additions.

Regardless, the Nintendo Switch 2 is still lacking a number of major first-party IPs, and so it will be interesting to learn what they have planned for the likes of Zelda and Smash Bros.

In the wake of the overwhelming success of the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo were quick to announce that they are also working on a Legend of Zelda film. It appears as though the project is progressing smoothly, with filming said to have now officially been wrapped-up ahead of its expected May 2027 premiere date.

Making the announcement at CinemaCon 2026 (and reported by the Japanese publication ‘denfaminicogamer’) production on the live-action Legend of Zelda movie has officially hit a new milestone, with the team having now concluded their filming stage of the project.

In case you missed it, shooting for the film first began back in early November of last year in which we got our first looks at Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

With the film’s shooting now officially concluded, the project will be moving to its post-production stage. This of course involves a ton of work still, including editing; sound design; visual effects; colour grading and much more.

Still, this latest milestone is worthy of note, and suggests that The Legend of Zelda film will likely make its current scheduled release date of the 7th of May 2027.

Nintendo has already seen a ton of success in the film space, with the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie raking in over $1.3 Billion at the box office (and its sequel well on its way to cracking a Billion).

While it is unlikely that the Zelda movie will be as lucrative financially, here’s to hoping that its critical reception manages to supersede that of Mario Bros.

Nintendo’s strategy for the Switch 2 has been somewhat different to that of the OG Switch, with the console maker seemingly taking a slower-paced approach to its game announcements / releases. As the Switch 2 nears its 2nd year on the market, known insiders have offered a ton of details on what to expect from Nintendo over the next year-or-so – including claims that FromSoftware’s much-anticipated Duskbloods is scheduled to arrive in 2026.

As reported by known industry insider NateDrake via their NateTheHate podcast, Nintendo appears to be set to have a relatively slow 2026, with the leaker claiming that the next general Nintendo Direct won’t be happening until June – 9 months on from the previous mainline Direct showcase.

That said, the next showcase could offer quite a few exciting announcements, with Nate teasing a number of in-development projects, including:

• The return of Star Fox as a Switch 2 exclusive in 2026
• Splatoon Raiders; Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave and Rhythm Heaven Groove arriving around Summer
• Switch 2 Editions of Pikmin 4 and (potentially) Xenoblade Chronicles 2 planned for 2026
• FromSoftware’s Duskbloods coming “later” in 2026
• The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launching in the second half of this year (though the scope of the project is unknown)
• A new 3D Mario title coming some time in 2027

Of course, all of these announcements are subject to change, and so we will have to wait until the next general Direct to learn more officially. That said, while the claim that a new 3D Mario not coming until some time next year is disappointing to see, the concept of a remake (or a re-remake) for Ocarina of Time is intriguing.

Nintendo has been pretty quiet on its first-party game line-up for the Switch 2 so far this year. That may start to change soon though. Recent leaks have claimed that Nintendo is currently developing a new Star Fox game, with plans to launch this summer, followed by a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time later in the year. 

According to both VGC and Nate the Hate, Nintendo is working on a ‘classic' Star Fox game for the Switch 2, with plans to launch this summer. If accurate, the game would be launching a few months after the Super Mario Galaxy movie, which is also set to feature Fox McCloud as a new character.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Zelda, Nintendo is also said to be planning a full remake of Ocarina of Time, one of the most beloved games in the entire series. This wouldn't be the first time that Nintendo has done this, as a version of the game had also been rebuilt for the 3DS. This remake however would target higher fidelity graphics, taking full advantage of the Switch 2's more powerful hardware.

While there is good news for Star Fox and Zelda fans, it sounds like Super Mario will be taking this year off. According to the same report, the next 3D Super Mario game is targeting a 2027 release window.
