Marvel’s Wolverine gets first gameplay look, pre-order details and more

4 June 2026 at 11:30

Sony’s recent PlayStation State of Play was jam-packed with a number of exciting announcements, from the first look at Ikumi Nakamura’s ‘Kemuri’ to official confirmation of Rayman Legends Retold, and of course, the announcement of the God of War spin-off / side-quel Laufey. As expected however, the console maker kicked things off with the first proper look at gameplay and pre-order details for Insomniac’s Wolverine ahead of its launch this September.

Shown off during Sony’s State of Play (and expanded upon via the PlayStation Blog), Insomniac Games offered fans a comprehensive look into Marvel’s Wolverine. As expected, the title is more linear and structured in nature when compared to the studio’s Spider-Man offerings, being described as “a brutal, violent, and action-packed single-player adventure.”

Even so, it appears as though players will be able to approach certain situations differently, with the gameplay demo showcasing a mix of both stealth and bloody action alongside a ton of environmental interactivity during combat.

Perhaps the biggest surprise from the showing was the reveal that Logan won’t always be fighting alone, with the likes of Jean Grey assisting during the mission; allowing for cool dual-takedowns of enemies. Other notable mutants revealed to be present during the story include Mystique and Sabretooth.

Gameplay-wise, Insomniac detailed some of Logan's many abilities, with the Wolverine being able to tap into special combat moves such as a ‘Tornado Spin’ and ‘Bull Rush’. Alongside a health bar, players will be able to manage Logan’s rage meter. Split into 3 chunks, “every successful attack, parry, and kill will build up Logan’s Rage” allowing him to hit harder and heal faster – with Tier 3 activating a comic-inspired “monochromatic explosion of savagery.”

While we already knew when to expect Wolverine to be released, PlayStation have now gone live with pre-orders. Announcing 2 different editions, the standard costs £69.99 and will include the core game and little else (although all those who pre-order will be given early access to a couple cosmetics alongside 1 technique point and a collection of PlayStation avatars).

The Digital Deluxe Edition meanwhile goes for £10 extra (£79.99) and throws in 5 exclusive skins; 5 exclusive claws and 3 additional technique points – alongside the aforementioned pre-order bonuses.

While we’ve already seen more than enough to generate a great deal of excitement, Insomniac Games have promised that there is more to share in the lead-up to launch, including “more intense battles, suits, enemy factions, and characters”. Marvel’s Wolverine officially launches on the 15th of September.

KitGuru says: What did you think of the State of Play? Will Wolverine be a day-one purchase? Which suits do you hope they will include? Let us know down below.

Remedy, Insomniac, Rebel Wolves and More Are Colliding in September as GTA 6’s November Launch Warps the Entire AAA Calendar

3 June 2026 at 19:30

A collage featuring characters from various video games: a warrior with a sword, Wolverine with claws extended, a fighter with a large sword, a tech-savvy individual with a device, and a warrior with a blade on his arm.

September 2026 was already looking stacked before the State of Play, but yesterday it became veritably tragic for players' wallets. There are at least five (possibly more, depending on your definition of the category) major triple-A releases squeezing in this month, in what's clearly a desperate effort to stay out of the veritable vortex that Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6 will spin on the industry when it launches on November 19. They're also in fairly similar genres, practically forcing players to choose which to purchase, with inevitable repercussions for their sales. The only silver lining is that Phantom Blade Zero […]

PlayStation State of Play returns in June with Wolverine headlining

20 May 2026 at 15:59

Sony has officially announced its Summer showcase plans for new PS5 titles. State of Play is returning in early June, offering an hour of new game announcements and other reveals.

As announced by Sony today, PlayStation State of Play will return on the 2nd of June at 10PM UK time. The stream will last for an hour, offering new looks at upcoming PS5 titles releasing in 2026 and beyond.

Naturally, the big headliner here is Marvel's Wolverine. Insomniac Games already confirmed plans to showcase more of its Wolverine game this Summer, so we can expect a full new gameplay trailer and confirmation of the game's release date.

Unfortunately, unlike Insomniac's Spider-Man games, Wolverine is unlikely to come to PC. Recent reports state that PlayStation head, Herman Hulst, told staff in a meeting this month that future single-player games will now remain exclusive to PlayStation consoles.

KitGuru Says: I'm expecting a late September or early October release date for Wolverine, but we won't have to wait long to know for sure.

Insomniac’s rumoured Venom game confirmed by Miles Morales voice actor

27 April 2026 at 16:00

Comments from videogame voice actors have sparked plenty of rumours in the past. This month, one voice actor openly talked about Insomniac's plans for a Venom side-game or DLC following Spider-Man 2, but other sources quickly shot down the claim that the game had been cancelled.

In an interview with the Love it Film podcast, Nadji Jeter, the voice actor for Miles Morales in the Insomniac Spider-Man games, said that a Venom standalone game or DLC was going to happen after Spider-Man 2, but it was cancelled after the voice actor for Venom, Tony Todd, passed away in 2024.

One GDC 2026 attendee (via Insider Gaming) said that they were still hearing about the Venom game at the event this year, which would indicate that the project has not been cancelled. Industry insider and book author, Jason Schreier, also commented on the viral Resetera thread to state that the quote from Jeter “wasn't true”.

Ever since Spider-Man 2 released and Insomniac suffered that massive cyberattack and data leak, there have been rumours about a Venom standalone game, using the gameplay mechanics established in the main Spider-Man 2 campaign. The standalone Venom game also would have presumably been scoped similarly to the Miles Morales game.

Insomniac has never officially announced any plans for additional Spider-Man spin-off games or Spider-Man 2 story DLC. Right now, the studio is focused on Wolverine, which is launching later this year and may be one of a number of PS5 titles no longer guaranteed to get a PC port.

KitGuru Says: I didn't really enjoy the Venom sections in Spider-Man 2, so the idea of a whole standalone game isn't all that appealing to me.

PlayStation May Be ‘Backing Away From Putting Their Traditional Single-Player Games on PC’

26 February 2026 at 16:16

Over the past few years, plenty of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusive games have made their way to PC, including tentpole franchises like The Last of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon, and God of War. However, there is a chance that in the future, only PlayStation live service games will launch on PC. Noted journalist Jason Schreier has suggested that traditional single-player experiences may remain console exclusives for the foreseeable future. Speaking on the latest episode of the Triple Click podcast, the Bloomberg journalist commented on SIE’s strategy moving forward: "I think for them, their strategy is like, live service […]

Marvel’s Wolverine finally gets exciting PS5 release date this September

By: Bahleem
25 February 2026 at 07:03

Marvel’s Wolverine finally has a confirmed release date, and it is good news for PlayStation fans. After years of waiting, Sony Interactive Entertainment has locked in a September launch for one of its most anticipated games.

Insomniac Games, the studio behind the project, confirmed on X that Marvel’s Wolverine will release on September 15, 2026. This date fits perfectly within Sony’s earlier promise of a fall 2026 launch window.

Marvels Wolverine 4

The game is coming only to PlayStation 5 at launch. There is no sign of a PC or Xbox version so far. The release date trailer and the PlayStation Store listing both mention PS5 only, which means the game will be a console exclusive for now.

Marvels Wolverine 5

Marvel’s Wolverine is a single player game and can be played offline. The story follows Logan as he searches for answers about his past. The trailer shows a darker and more brutal tone, with Logan facing old enemies and memories. Players will see familiar faces like Sabretooth and Mystique, while exploring different places, including parts of the American west and narrow streets in Japan.

Marvels Wolverine 2

Insomniac’s last Marvel game, Marvel’s Spider Man 2, launched on PS5 first and arrived on PC more than a year later. If Sony follows the same pattern, a PC version of Marvel’s Wolverine may come later, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Marvel’s Wolverine release date

For now, PS5 players can look forward to a powerful and story driven superhero game arriving on September 15, 2026.

“Let’s Cut to the Chase”: Insomniac Reveals Marvel’s Wolverine Arrives on PS5 in September 2026

24 February 2026 at 17:31

Insomniac Games was done letting us wait, as it announced in a short and to-the-point post on its official social channels that Marvel's Wolverine will release on PS5 this coming September 15, 2026. "Let's cut to the chase" writes Insomniac, before announcing the release date. While it's great to no longer be in the dark on the release date for what is arguably the most anticipated game coming to PS5 for PlayStation players this year, it is a little curious as to why we didn't get this news two weeks ago, when Sony held its first State of Play event […]

Insomniac’s Wolverine game is launching in September

24 February 2026 at 16:45

While Insomniac recently stated that it wouldn't be sharing more news about its Wolverine game until the Spring, it turns out that wasn't entirely true. Today, Marvel and Sony both announced that Insomniac's Wolverine will be launching in September.

Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games is now officially launching on the 15th of September, giving it a solid two months on the market before Rockstar dominates the charts with Grand Theft Auto 6.

Insomniac's Wolverine is a standalone game set in an expanded in-game universe that also encompasses Insomniac's Spider-Man games. Unlike Spider-Man, Wolverine will not be an open-world game, but will instead be a linear action-adventure with a number of unique levels.

While not yet confirmed, Wolverine is believed to be a precursor to Insomniac's own X-Men game.
