Fable Devs Defend Demo After Fans Spot Clueless Guards and Suspiciously Fast 18K Gold Payout: It Was Set on Easy

16 June 2026 at 18:00

A character in 'Fable' stands in a village with a giant beanstalk in the background, near a sign reading 'Village Meats.'

After the release date announcement at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, Playground Games also shared 30 minutes of new Fable gameplay footage a few days ago. The video was dedicated to demonstrating the game's simulation layer, but toward the end, the developers also showcased some combat when they switched to "evil hero" behavior. However, many viewers noticed that the guards did little to counter the player character's mayhem in the farming town of Silverbrook, largely standing aside and being easily picked off by the player. Thankfully, the official X account reassured fans that, as some had surmised, the demo was […]

The US government’s Anthropic models ban was never about an AI jailbreak

15 June 2026 at 21:50
The Trump administration's decision that forced Anthropic to pull its latest cybersecurity models could be reactionary, retaliatory, or both, but the message is clear: The AI industry isn't immune from U.S. government interference.

Persona 4 Revival, Fable, Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Lots More Collide in 2027, The Most Stacked RPG Year Ever

11 June 2026 at 22:15

A lineup of five game characters from games due in 2027, left to right: a young man in a school uniform, a woman in medieval attire, a blond man with determined eyes, a futuristic soldier in armor with a lion emblem, and a white-haired warrior with swords.

Summer Game Fest 2026 has come and gone, leaving us with two incredibly busy periods in the game release schedule: September-October 2026 and February-March 2027, which publishers big and small have identified in their not-so-disguised attempt to avoid a collision with Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI when it makes its debut on November 19, 2026. To fans of the roleplaying games genre, though, the recent flurry of game announcements has brought the near-certainty that next year will be memorable and perhaps unparalleled even in the future, thanks to the return of several beloved franchises/IPs and studios. Also, unlike recent years, […]

Playground Games Debuts 30min of Fable Gameplay, Showing Off What Players can Expect as they Explore Albion

10 June 2026 at 19:34

A character with a sword stands in an enchanted forest with the title 'Fable' overhead, looking towards a distant castle.

Hot off the heels of a new story trailer featuring the game's antagonist and a release date reveal, developer Playground Games has suddenly dropped a 30-minute gameplay demo for Fable. The demo takes players through the town of Silverbrook in the game's magical setting of Albion, and shows off a bit of how its morality and reputation system works based on your actions. The demo mostly shows what it's like when you're trying to develop a character with a reputation for kindness, though narrators William Kennedy and Craig Littler, both associate game directors on Fable, emphasize throughout the demo that […]

Playground Games drops 30 minutes of Fable gameplay

10 June 2026 at 14:00

While Fable ended up not being a huge part of the recent Xbox showcase, Playground Games has quickly made up for that with a 30 minute gameplay preview.Β

The 30-minute Fable gameplay demo doesn't contain any story spoilers, but it does give us a look at a small side quest, as well as how interactions with NPCs work, how dialogue choices impact events and combat.

I'm not always a fan of the more whimsical fantasy style but I do really like it here. Visually, the game looks great, though there did appear to be some frame drops at points. With around 8 months to go until launch, there is still plenty of time for those little dips to be addressed.

As you would expect from a Fable game, players will be presented with plenty of opportunities to perform good or evil deeds while exploring the open world and its various towns. Your reputation is remembered by NPCs in the area and depending on their personality type, they will either love or hate you. There is more depth to it than that according to the video, but that's the dumbed down version.

Combat seamlessly mixes up magic with melee, and your bow is always on your back and ready to be used too. To me, it looks like a clear improvement over the original with some very fun looking magic abilities.

The jury is still out on how good the main story will be but so far the gameplay and side content looks promising.

KitGuru Says: Fable isn't coming out until February now so we still have a pretty long wait ahead before we can play it for ourselves.Β Β

Fable is coming out in February, first story expansion announced

8 June 2026 at 15:00

Microsoft and Playground Games have confirmed that the Fable reboot will launch on the 23rd of February. On top of that, the latest look at the game also brought around news of the first story expansion, titled Order of the Hero.Β

In the Fable reboot, players will start off as a child version of their character, just like in the original, before an attack on the town drives you to leave and train up. After the prologue, you'll have access to the massive new open world, populated by more than 1000 NPCs with their own daily routines programmed in to bring more life to Albion.

While Gears of War E-Day and Clockwork Revolution will no longer be coming to PS5, Fable is still set to come to Sony's platform. The game will also be a day-one addition for PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. As has been the case with most first-party Xbox games in recent years, there is a Premium Edition that grants as much as five days of early access to the game.

Sometime after launch, Playground Games will expand Fable with the Order of the Hero DLC, a paid expansion that we expect will be playable by the end of the year, if not right in time for the game's 1-year anniversary. This expansion will add a brand-new region to Albion, tasking players with investigating an ancient cult.

KitGuru says: Are you planning on picking up the new Fable when it finally comes out?Β

Fable Doubles Down On Mockumentary Style To Introduce Main Villain Isabel As It Locks February 23, 2027 Release Date

7 June 2026 at 17:29

A character in detailed leather armor stands in a misty, mountainous outdoor setting.

Fable was supposed to be among the games launching in this packed 2026, but Xbox and Playground Games eventually had to delay the game to early 2027 to avoid releasing too close to Grand Theft Auto VI. During today's Xbox Games Showcase, we learned that the next entry in the series will launch on February 23, 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, with early access for the Premium Edition starting from February 5. Besides confirming the game's release date, today's trailer introduced Isabel (played by Hayley Atwell), the Hero of Wraitmarsh and the game's […]

Fable delayed once again

2 June 2026 at 08:00

We first heard about Playground Games' Fable reboot all the way back in 2018. It has also been around six years since the game was officially announced. Now, just months ahead of its planned release date, the game has been delayed again.Β

Fable is no longer coming out in 2026. It would seem that the game fell into the GTA 6 trap and would have released closer to November than August. As a result, Fable won't be coming out this year at all and is now targeting a February 2027 launch date.

Playground Fable reboot

Microsoft says the delay is to give more of its upcoming games their own time in the spotlight. However, February itself is a historically busy month for videogames. Avowed had to compete with the likes of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and Civ 7 in 2025. Just this year, February was dominated by Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem, and we will no doubt see a couple of other big games announced for February 2027 in the coming weeks.

Now due to the number of delays and the near decade of development time, not only are player expectations going to be higher, but there is going to be a higher revenue bar to clear in order to be profitable.

KitGuru Says: Fable was supposed to be the biggest Xbox game of the year. Now, it is going to release in a very crowded 2027 instead, due to the number of other games being delayed to avoid GTA 6.Β

Xbox Decides to Get Out of the Way of GTA 6, Delays Fable to February 2027

29 May 2026 at 16:59

A collage showcasing 'Minecraft Dungeons II,' 'Forza Horizon 6,' 'Halo: Campaign Evolved,' 'Gears of War: E-Day,' 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III,' and 'Fable' under the text 'NEW AND UPCOMING.'

Fable has been delayed into February 2027, it was announced today by Xbox ahead of its Xbox Games Showcase as part of Summer Game Fest 2026 on June 7, 2026. After just getting done with bringing Forza Horizon 6 to market, developer Playground Games is getting a little more time to polish up the reboot of the RPG series, though the delay seems to be as much about avoiding Grand Theft Auto 6 as it is about Playground needing the extra time. A statement from Xbox shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account directly cites the onslaught of major […]

Leak points to Persona 4 Revival & Lego Cities Skylines announcements

26 May 2026 at 10:00

June is coming up, which means we are due for a ton of game reveals and release date announcements from major publishers across the industry. Thanks to ratings board leaks, we know of at least four titles due to get major announcements in the coming weeks.Β

Earlier this month we learned that The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea had updated its listing for Fable, indicating that Xbox will finally announce the game's release date during its showcase next month. Now, the same ratings board has updated listings for several other titles.

For starters, it looks like Paradox Interactive has teamed up with Lego for a new version of Cities Skylines, titled Lego Skylines. Persona 4 Revival has also been listed, which means Sega will finally show off more of the game, following the short 30-second teaser last year.

As spotted by Gematsu, the likes of Ace Combat 8, Gears of War E-Day and even Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy also appear. However, we already knew that Gears of War E-Day would be a major highlight of the next Xbox showcase. In the case of Guardians of the Galaxy, we are likely looking at a new Switch 2 port of the game.

KitGuru Says: Persona 3 Reload was great so I have high hopes for Persona 4 Revival. Lego Skylines should be very interesting to see as well – the Lego aesthetic will work very well for a city-builder.Β

Playground Games’ Fable has been officially rated in multiple countries

25 May 2026 at 11:30

With Forza Horizon 6 officially out and already a massive success, many Xbox fans are looking towards the future and what’s next in store for Playground Games. Ahead of the expected launch of the much-anticipated Fable reboot later this year, multiple game rating boards have now officially listed the title on their databases – all-but-confirming that Fable should make its expected Autumn 2026 release window.

Following the official release window announcement for Fable, rumours popped up claiming that the upcoming RPG could be delayed out of its announced β€˜Autumn 2026’ release window. These claims were quickly quashed, with Playground Games themselves reaffirming the Autumn timeframe.

While the title could still of course wind up receiving a last-minute delay, this seems to be increasingly unlikely, with two different game ratings boards (Korea and Australia) having now officially listed Fable on their sites.

Playground Fable reboot

As per its Australian classification, Fable has received an M rating, noting β€˜mature themes’ and moments of β€˜violence’. Of course, each region has its own metrics for analysis, and so we will have to wait and see what other boards have to say on the matter.

Either way, it is becoming increasingly clear that following years of waiting, hype and anticipation, Playground Games’ Fable reboot is truly almost here. Hopefully we will learn of its full release date during Microsoft’s upcoming Summer showcase.

KitGuru says: Are you excited for Fable? Where does it rank on your list of most-anticipated 2026 releases? Will it make its Autumn target? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Fable Dodges GTA 6’s Shadow as Korean Rating Points to a September or October 2026 Release Window

Playground's Fable reboot has been officially rated in South Korea and Australia, as spotted by Reddit users. Both of them have restricted the game to be only available to adults due to its mature content, and the South Korean board also shared why: An immersive open-world action RPG depicting the player's adventure to resolve the situation where villagers are turned to stone by an unidentified stranger. Therefore, in accordance with Article 21 of the Act on Promotion of the Game Industry and Article 7, Paragraph 4 of the Classification Regulations, it has been decided to classify it as 'Not suitable […]

Fable Still On Track For 2026 Release, As Playground Games Reaffirms Launch Window In New Recruitment Drive

22 May 2026 at 14:23

A character in 'Fable' faces off against a troll wielding a large hammer in a forest setting.

[UPDATE] The South Korean and Australian rating boards have rated Fable, making it even more likely that it will launch this year. [ORIGINAL STORY] Fable has been confirmed for a 2026 release earlier this year, but with Xbox's packed release schedule for the remainder of the year, and the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in late November, the long silence on a precise release date is making more than a few wonder if the game will slip into 2027. While the chances of this happening are very real, developer Playground Games recently reaffirmed its commitment to the 2026 release […]

Xbox has Blizzard helping out with Fable cinematics

16 April 2026 at 15:00

In the latest episode of the official Xbox podcast, Xbox Game Studios head, Matt Booty, shared fresh details on the β€˜tech sharing' culture it has built across its studios. At this point, most of the Xbox Game Studios are helping each other out, with one major example being Blizzard's involvement with the upcoming Fable reboot.Β

Blizzard has long been known for its cinematics, which have been regarded as industry-leading in the past. As it turns out, Blizzard's cinematics team has been working with Playground Games in recent years, helping them out with putting major cutscenes in place for Fable, which is due to release later this year.

Booty also confirmed a number of other moves. For instance, Compulsion Games is using the Activision motion capture studio, Rare has been sharing its Sea of Thieves multiplayer expertise with studios like Double Fine, and co-op tech developed by Obsidian for Grounded is now being used by Undead Labs for the next State of Decay game.

Whether or not this tech sharing will ultimately lead to better and more timely game releases still remains to be seen. Xbox has a pretty big year ahead though, with Gears of War and Halo both returning, along with the next Forza Horizon game and the long-awaited return of Fable.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Blizzard's involvement here will certainly raise expectations for Fable's cinematic sequences.Β
