Blizzard forgot to remove 30FPS frame rate cap for Overwatch Switch 2 Edition

15 April 2026 at 14:00

Earlier this week, Blizzard surprise-dropped the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Overwatch, promising improved visuals and, crucially, an upgrade to 60FPS gameplay. Unfortunately, the update has not brought the performance improvements expected.

Within hours of the Switch 2 edition of Overwatch rolling out, fans began pointing out that the advertised 60FPS mode was not in the game at all. Many logged in to find that the game remains locked at 30FPS in both docked and handheld modes, although the game's resolution and visuals had clearly improved.

In its own testing, Eurogamer found that the game ran at a solid framerate with no fluctuations, but the 30FPS cap still lingered from the original Switch 1 version of the game, creating a sluggish experience compared to other consoles like PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Blizzard has already confirmed that it is aware of the issue and is in the process of fixing. However, there is no timeline for the update yet. This is the second Switch 2 upgrade that has been fumbled under Microsoft's leadership. Last year, Skyrim also received a Switch 2 upgrade, but Bethesda opted to not include a 60FPS mode, despite the Switch 2 being perfectly capable of delivering that frame rate. A couple of months later, Bethesda fixed this with a 60FPS performance mode.

KitGuru Says: 60FPS gameplay was the highlight feature of this update, so to see the game release and for that option to not even be present in the game, is a massive oversight. Perhaps it is time for Microsoft to reinvest in Quality Assurance across its studios, rather than gutting teams further in a chase for greater profit margins.

Blizzard brings 60FPS gameplay to Overwatch on Switch 2

14 April 2026 at 13:45

While Overwatch has been available on the Nintendo Switch for a long time now, it was arguably the worst way to play the game. While PC players have access to infinite frame rates, and Xbox and PlayStation players had access to 60FPS, Overwatch on the Switch was limited to 30FPS, which is not ideal for a competitive first-person shooter. That changes this week with the new Switch 2 patch.

The Switch 2 patch for Overwatch is now available, bringing with it 60FPS gameplay as the new standard in both handheld and docked modes. The Switch 2 edition of the game also includes “better visuals and higher fidelity audio”, so you should see and hear improvements beyond the more fluid gameplay.

Overwatch first came to Nintendo Switch consoles back in 2019, just before Blizzard moved everything over to Overwatch 2. Eventually, Blizzard dropped the “2” from the name and went back to just calling the game Overwatch, while also re-introducing things from the original game like free hero characters and loot boxes for cosmetics.

Overwatch lands on Switch 2 today alongside the game's latest season of content, which includes a brand new hero, a new event, a new version of the Antarctica map and more.

KitGuru Says: Did you ever try Overwatch on the original Nintendo Switch? Have you been able to test out the improved Switch 2 version?

40-part Overwatch Webtoon ‘Undivided’ officially announced

1 April 2026 at 09:15

Being a live-service hero shooter, Blizzard’s Overwatch is relatively light on story, with external video shorts and animations being produced in order to fill out the IP’s world and narrative. That said, one of the biggest complaints with the release of Overwatch 2 was the broken promises made regarding the addition of story campaign-styled missions. While these original plans may never come to be, Blizzard has offered an olive branch to fans of Overwatch’s world, confirming that they are releasing a 40-part  ‘Undivided' Webtoon comic.

In an exclusive report by the publication VICE, Blizzard officially announced a surprise addition coming to the world of Overwatch, with a 40-part Webtoon series currently being developed. Titled ‘Overwatch: Undivided’ the first 3 chapters of the story are available right now to read HERE (with parts 4-8 arriving early via Webtoon’s Fast Pass).

Undivided Webtoon

Featuring a pleasing art style and vibrant visuals, Undivided looks to be a direct response to fans who wish for more lore and story, with the synopsis reading as follows:

“In the aftermath of Talon’s strike on Watchpoint: Gibraltar, the heroes of Overwatch take in their devastating defeat. But Vendetta is far from finished, launching attacks around the world on research facilities, military bases, and major cities. As Sojourn rallies the weary heroes to face Talon wherever they strike, she receives crushing news that calls everything she’s stood for into question: When the world says it doesn’t need heroes, can Overwatch still stand, undivided?”

While not the in-game narrative experience which many fans have been asking for, Overwatch: Undivided is a major step forward in this regard. It will be interesting to see how players respond.

Legacy IPs continue to dominate PC gaming new top 20 data shows

15 March 2026 at 12:31

The games industry analysts at NewZoo have revealed the top 20 most-played PC games of 2025, showing that the majority of playtime is concentrated across a select few long-running IPs like Counter Strike, Diablo, WoW, Call of Duty and more.

We are currently living in an age where every publisher is trying to crack the live-service model, with one big long-running game generating consistent recurring income that vastly outweighs the kind of money made by a typical single-player game. However, as we've seen more recently, these types of games are becoming increasingly risky to release, with games like Babylon's Fall, Rumbleverse, Suicide Squad, Concord and Highguard all shutting down within a year of release.

As the NewZoo data shows, the top 20 most-played PC games is heavily concentrated on legacy franchises. Unfortunately, their resources website is currently down, so I can't link directly to the study, but Insider Gaming managed to grab it beforehand. Below is the full top 20, along with the percentage of overall playtime each game has earned:

  1. Roblox – 9.7%
  2. Counter-Strike 2 – 7%
  3. League of Legends – 6.9%
  4. Minecraft – 6.3%
  5. Fortnite – 4.3%
  6. Dota 2 – 3.6%
  7. Valorant – 3.2%
  8. World of Warcraft (retail) – 2.4%
  9. The Sims 4 – 2.3%
  10. Call of Duty – 1.8%
  11. Escape from Tarkov – 1.7%
  12. Overwatch 2 – 1.5%
  13. Marvel Rivals – 1.2%
  14. PUBG Battlegrounds – 1.1%
  15. World of Warcraft Classic – 1%
  16. Grand Theft Auto V – 1%
  17. Diablo 4 – 1%
  18. Wuthering Waves – 0.9%
  19. Genshin Impact – 0.9%
  20. Apex Legends – 0.9%

There are just a few genuinely ‘new IP' on the list, Games like PUBG and Apex Legends may not count, as they were preceded by a highly popular mod beforehand in the case of PUBG, and Apex Legends was preceded by the fantastic Titanfall games. Even World of Warcraft had a good fan base built up before launching in 2004 thanks to the prior Warcraft RTS games. Dota 2 famously came to be after starting out as a popular Warcraft mod as well.

That leaves us with just a handful of genuinely brand-new IP on the list, including the likes of Fortnite, Valorant, Escape from Tarkov, Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves and Minecraft. These account for less than 30% of the most-played titles and the majority of them had launched well before the current live-service development trend across the games industry.

Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: If you need your game to be a top 20 title in order to keep supporting it, then you are likely better off just not going down the live service route at all. As we've seen with Highguard, Concord and Babylon's Fall, having a big budget does not guarantee you any level of success in this saturated market.

“It Broke Me” – Overwatch Creator Finally Reveals the Truth Behind the Painful Separation from Blizzard

12 March 2026 at 21:00

Jeff Kaplan stands in front of the 'Overwatch' logo.

After several years of silence, Overwatch creator Jeff Kaplan has resurfaced to announce his new game, the action survival multiplayer FPS The Legend of California. At the same time, he was also interviewed by Lex Fridman in a massive, multi-hour interview where he revealed the truth behind his exit from Blizzard after 19 years at the company, during which he also worked as a tester on Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Game Director on World of Warcraft. Kaplan described the separation as very painful: It broke me. I think after you've been at a place like Blizzard, which I […]

Blizzard prematurely unveils Overwatch x NieR: Automata crossover, arriving next week

2 March 2026 at 12:00

For the past many years, Overwatch has been embracing all sorts of crossovers, from anime such as My Hero Academia to other video game IPs including Persona 5 and Diablo IV – to name a few. In a crossover which seemed inevitable, Square Enix’s NieR: Automata is set to collab with Overwatch; arriving next week.

Seemingly announcing the crossover prematurely, Blizzard published and then removed a YouTube Short confirming that “Project YoRHa initiates March 10!” – bringing a number of iconic characters from Automata into Overwatch through the release of new skins.

Overwatch NieR

Based on the image shared, it appears as though 5 skins in total will be offered:

  • Lifeweaver as Adam
  • Vendetta as A2
  • Wuyang as 9S
  • Kiriko as 2B
  • Mercy as the Yorha Commander

As of now, little else is known regarding the extent of this crossover. While it will most likely be nothing more than these skins, the game’s recent revamp does present an opportunity for these events to be more substantial.

We will have to wait and see when the Overwatch x NieR Automata crossover goes live on the 10th of March.

Blizzard announces top-down 4v4 shooter ‘Overwatch Rush’ for mobile

25 February 2026 at 11:00

With Blizzard seemingly successfully reviving the Overwatch franchise in the wake of its recent overhaul, the team looks set to expand the IP out into new mediums. While the mainline Overwatch remains a console/PC only experience, a brand new mobile-exclusive spin-off has now been announced in the form of the top-down 4v4 shooter Overwatch Rush.

Taking to their blog to make the announcement, the team at Blizzard officially unveiled their latest project, writing: “Today, we’re introducing Overwatch Rush, a new top-down Hero shooter designed specifically for mobile set in the Overwatch universe.”

Being developed internally at Blizzard (though by a new team separate from the mainline Overwatch devs), Rush is described as “an entirely new game – not a port – built specifically for mobile players”. This is quite evident from the early development footage shared, showing a game which is clearly Overwatch but operates in an entirely new top-down / isometric perspective.

As of now, very few additional details have been shared, with the team confirming that “there remains a lot of work to do”. Those interested in following Overwatch Rush’s progress directly can do so via the game’s Discord server.

Bringing live-service titles to mobile is always an interesting endeavour, with some trying to port the game as is, while others go for a more dedicated mobile-first experience. Both methods have had their successes and failures, and so it will be interesting to see what becomes of Overwatch Rush once it eventually launches on mobile.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? Should Rush share progress with the main game? Would you have preferred a more direct port of Overwatch instead? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Blizzard has revealed a new Overwatch game, and no, it's not 'Overwatch 2' again. It's a new 4v4, free-to-play, top-down Hero shooter called Overwatch Rush, and it's a brand new game built for mobile players. The game was announced with a look at some early in-development gameplay, which you can see in the trailer below. It's being developed by a "dedicated team at Blizzard, separate from Team 4, all of whom have deep mobile experience," according to a blog post on Blizzard's official website, which is followed by Blizzard reiterating that Team 4 is "fully focused on Overwatch," as if […]
