Samson Dev: DLSS 5 Needs Full Pipeline Integration & Broad Hardware Support to Be Viable

8 April 2026 at 18:30

A side-by-side NVIDIA DLSS 5 comparison of a character in 'Resident Evil Requiem' with 'DLSS 5 Off' on the left and 'DLSS 5 On' on the right, showing enhanced visual clarity and detail.

Following the controversial reveal of NVIDIA DLSS 5 at GTC 2026, we have heard all sorts of reactions from both sides of the argument. However, in most cases, they were heavily skewed towards one side, either embracing or condemning the technology. Nobody really delved too much into what it would really take to make it viable from a game developer's standpoint. We've continued to reach out to various studios to gather their perspectives on this oft-neglected part of the DLSS 5 discourse. Today, on the release date of their debut game (Samson: A Tyndalston Story, of which you can read […]

NVIDIA DLSS 5 Could Eventually Become a Driver-Level Toggle

27 March 2026 at 15:00

A character in the game 'Starfield' holds a futuristic tablet device in an office setting, with the text 'NVIDIA DLSS 5 On' displayed.

The NVIDIA DLSS 5 reveal at GTC 2026 is now over ten days past, but footage and impressions are still trickling in from attendees. Earlier this week, PC World did a livestream where they showed footage captured off-screen (with a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 in D-Log, with Rec.709 LUT applied) after checking the various DLSS 5 demos available, including Avalanche Software's Hogwarts Legacy, Bethesda's Starfield and Oblivion Remastered, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Shadows, and NVIDIA's own Zorah Tech demo crafted in Unreal Engine 5. PC World's Adam said he was able to freely toggle the technology on and off during the […]

What NVIDIA Actually Got Wrong with the DLSS 5 Reveal

23 March 2026 at 20:00

A promotional image for 'Resident Evil Requiem' showcases the visual differences between 'DLSS 5 Off' and 'DLSS 5 On' using NVIDIA GeForce RTX, highlighting improved graphics fidelity.

Nobody, except for a very select few who had already checked out a demo, was expecting NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang to unveil DLSS 5 during his GTC 2026 keynote last week. NVIDIA had already countered AMD's FSR Redstone at CES 2026, where it announced and released a second-generation transformer model for its Super Resolution upscaler, which adopted the DLSS 4.5 label and was quickly judged the best upscaler available. Two months later, they stunned the world - for better or worse - with a new version of DLSS that did not focus on improving frame rates or ray tracing performance, […]

NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 Reveal Was a Mistake, Needs to Go Back to the Drawing Board, Says Eternal Darkness Dev Denis Dyack

20 March 2026 at 17:00

NVIDIA DLSS 5 in EA Sports FC 26

Four days after the reveal of NVIDIA DLSS 5 at GTC 2026, we're still gathering reactions from the game development and modding community to the highly polarizing technology. Yesterday, we published some thoughts from RTGI author Pascal Gilcher. Today, we can share an exclusive comment from industry veteran Denis Dyack, as part of a much larger interview that will soon be published in its entirety on Wccftech. Dyack, known to gamers primarily as the creator of classics like Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, was quite critical of DLSS 5 as a whole while also noting […]

Bethesda Says DLSS 5 Demo Is a β€œVery Early Look” That Will Be Further Tuned, Under Dev Control, and Is Optional Anyway

17 March 2026 at 12:35

Two characters in Bethesda's 'Starfield' wearing space suits and holding equipment in a futuristic interior with 'DLSS 5 On' text overlay.

Following NVIDIA's reveal of DLSS 5 at GTC 2026 and Digital Foundry's coverage of the new technology, one of the early adopters, Bethesda Game Studios (which plans to add it to Starfield and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered), has commented directly on Digital Foundry's X post. The development team effectively addressed most of the criticism levied against DLSS 5 so far, clarifying that the demo is a "very early look", that the Bethesda artists will further adjust how it affects the game (since the technology is completely under their control) ahead of its public release, and critically, that it […]
