Ubisoft Connect might finally stop bothering Steam players

Another launcher might be on its way out, and this time it’s Ubisoft’s turn.

A Reddit user spotted a Ubisoft Steam community blog for an unnamed game announcing “Ubisoft Connect Services,” a tool that would apparently phase the Ubisoft Connect launcher off Steam entirely while keeping everything it currently handles, including cross-progression, cross-play, player safety, and challenges and rewards.

Why we’re relying on a Reddit screenshot

Ubisoft seems to have pulled the post down before anyone outside Reddit could read it properly. I’ve found an archived HTML version at this link, but the original now returns a 404. Whether that’s a scheduling mishap or Ubisoft attaching the announcement to the wrong game is still unclear, but the news itself is still worth celebrating for Steam players.

What’s also unclear is whether this rolls out retroactively. The blog frames Ubisoft Connect Services as starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, so older titles might be stuck with the launcher regardless.

Still, I’ll take any sign that publishers are quietly admitting nobody wants a second launcher bolted onto Steam. Rockstar’s Social Club remains the biggest holdout, and it’s not going anywhere while GTA and Red Dead keep selling by the truckload.

Ubisoft is embracing Steam properly and doing away with the Connect launcher

10 September 2026 at 14:00

Ubisoft has quietly made one of its biggest PC‑gaming moves in years. Starting with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the publisher is testing a new system on Steam that delivers Ubisoft Connect features without forcing players to install or launch the Ubisoft Connect PC launcher at all.

In a small update posted to Steam, Ubisoft explained that the new “Ubisoft Connect Services” tool will keep cross‑progression, cross‑play, challenges, rewards and other account‑linked features intact, but remove the requirement for the standalone launcher. Ubisoft describes this first version as “an initial step toward a smoother and more streamlined launch experience on Steam”, adding that it plans to iterate on the system and roll it out to more titles over time.

This is a notable shift for Ubisoft. For years, PC players have been frustrated by the company’s launcher, which often sat between Steam and the game itself, adding extra steps, slowing startup times and creating occasional login issues. Many will be pleased to see it go, although you will likely still need a registered Ubisoft account to access certain game features like cross-save.

Ubisoft says the new system will “progressively evolve and roll out to more Ubisoft games on Steam in the future”, so it shouldn't be too long until we start seeing it in titles like Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin's Creed.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft Connect isn't going away completely, but this is still a welcome change. Don't rush to uninstall the launcher just yet though, as there are still many titles in Ubisoft's library that will need to be updated.

Rainbow Six Tactics Announced at Gamescom 2026 as a Single-Player Turn-Based Spin-Off

26 August 2026 at 11:47

Characters from 'Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Tactics' are in a tactical formation amid a crumbling building.

Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026. Developed by Ubisoft Paris, the new single-player game trades the franchise’s familiar real-time shooting for turn-based squad combat built around planning, coordinated breaches, operator abilities, and environmental destruction. For the first time in the series, players will assume the role of Six, commander of Team Rainbow. Set alongside the ongoing Rainbow Six Siege timeline, its campaign follows the unit as a new global threat forces it to operate on a broader strategic scale. Missions begin at Rainbow’s headquarters, where players assess intelligence, select assignments, assemble their squad, […]

Nacon Connect now scheduled to happen next week

30 April 2026 at 16:00

The next NACON Connect event had to be postponed earlier this year after the publisher hit financial issues. Those issues just resulted in RPG studio, Spiders, shutting down as of today. The publisher is looking to move on swiftly though, with the next showcase now scheduled for next week.

Nacon Connect will now take place on the 7th of May. As usual, the game announcements showcase will be hosted on the publisher's YouTube and Twitch channels, with the stream set to begin at 7PM UK time.

In a press release, Nacon said that there will be an evening of announcements for ambitious games, a preview of upcoming innovations for accessories and exclusive gameplay sequences for anticipated titles such as The Mound, Edge of Memories, Endurance Motorsport Series, and Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish.

Nacon delays Connect showcase amid financial restructuring

3 March 2026 at 17:00

Nacon has confirmed that its upcoming digital showcase, Nacon Connect, has been postponed to May 2026. This decision follows a recent insolvency filing by the publisher after its parent company, Bigben Interactive, was unable to meet a partial loan repayment.

In a statement addressed to fans, the Nacon team acknowledged the “difficult moment” for the company but emphasised that the situation is a hurdle rather than a conclusion. The delay is intended to allow the team to stabilise their financial position and focus on the final polish of their current projects.

Despite the corporate restructuring, Nacon maintains that its announced release schedule remains on track. The most immediate title on the horizon is GreedFall: The Dying World, which is still slated for launch on March 12th. The publisher currently has several high-profile games in active development across PC and consoles, including the survival-focused Terminator Survivors, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, Dragonkin: The Banished, and Hunting Simulator 3. Other projects, such as Edge of Memories and The Mound Omen of Cthulhu, are also progressing as planned while the company awaits a ruling from a French court on its debt restructuring request.

Besides games, the May broadcast is expected to provide deeper looks at Nacon's new gaming accessories and peripherals.

KitGuru says: It's rare to see a publisher be this transparent about insolvency, but Nacon's honesty might buy them some much-needed goodwill from the community. With GreedFall: The Dying World launching in just a few days, the stakes are incredibly high, as a successful launch there could provide the momentum needed to carry them through.

UPDATE - March 3, 2026: Shortly after the publication of this article, NACON took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that its NACON Connect event will return in May 2026, but did not specify a date in May. Original Story: French publisher NACON, the company behind releases like last year's Hell is Us and upcoming titles like Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss has had quite a wild week.
