Stranger Than Heaven Reinvents Yakuza Combat Around the Shoulder Buttons, Replacing Heat Moves With Stamina-Based Counterattacks

14 June 2026 at 19:00

A character in a fur-collared coat and hat adjusting their hat in front of an orange background, with the words 'STRANGER THAN HEAVEN' prominently displayed.

The Stranger Than Heaven demo available at Summer Game Fest 2026 was solely focused on combat across three distinct periods of Japanese history. No side quests, no diversions; just a man, a hammer, and a plan. There is certainly an interesting narrative hook at play here, with the characters aging as the story progresses, but I will reserve my final judgment until I can sit down and explore Shinjuku at my own pace. All I can say is that Ryu ga Gotoku Studio has clearly spent its time creating some true-to-reality cities that each feel like they're in their own […]

God of War Laufey Reportedly Targets First Half of 2027, Lining Up With Santa Monica’s Beloved March-April Window

14 June 2026 at 13:00

A character from the game 'God of War Laufey' stands in a vibrant, mythical landscape with the text 'LAUFEY' prominently displayed above.

The long-rumored God of War Faye, now known as God of War Laufey, was easily the standout game not only of Sony's State of Play but also of the whole Summer Game Fest when it comes to overall impact. Marketing firm LevelUp ranked its performance across trailers, press coverage, and community engagement, finding that it far outpaced any other game shown throughout the week. The announcement did not include any precise launch window, which worried fans. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier chimed in to say that the game isn't "years away", though he wouldn't be more specific than that. Now, renowned insider […]

God of War Laufey Director Pushes Back on Cosmic Cube Criticism: Phranque Was Always In and Enables “Super Cool” Mechanics

9 June 2026 at 18:30

The Cosmic Cube from God of War Laufey gestures with a glowing hand against a mystical background, captured on PS5 Pro.

God of War Laufey's reveal at the recent June 2026 State of Play certainly pleased many franchise fans, but that's not to say there weren't criticisms to be found online. For example, some wrinkled their noses at Phranque, a talking cosmic jelly cube companion played by actor Jack Quaid, largely known for his role of Hughie in the TV series The Boys (but also already present in God of War: Sons of Sparta as Eis). Phranque, like the sword's talking ribbon, Rue, was criticized for looking whimsical and therefore not grounded enough for some tastes. The topic was tangentially touched […]

TMNT: The Last Ronin Fuses PlatinumGames Combat With God of War-Style Storytelling, As Mortal Kombat 11 Writer Returns

8 June 2026 at 17:00

The silhouette of a ninja turtle stands against a red circle with the text 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin' above.

At Summer Game Fest 2026, newly established publishing label Paramount Games Studio unveiled TMNT: The Last Ronin, a project in development at PlatinumGames (NieR: Automata, Bayonetta 3, Ninja Gaiden 4). As some of you may recall, we already got such an announcement in March 2023, but back then, the project was in development at Black Forest Games (Giana Sisters, Destroy All Humans!). Its development was stopped before the merger of Skydance and Paramount, and later, it was reassigned to the Japanese studio. The gameplay will undoubtedly be very different, but one thing seems to have stayed the same: the mature, […]

God of War Laufey introduces Faye in a promising new PS5 adventure

By: Bahleem
4 June 2026 at 12:18

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have officially revealed God of War Laufey, the next major entry in the popular God of War series. The upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive puts the spotlight on Laufey, also known as Faye, the legendary warrior and wife of Kratos. While a release date has not yet been announced, the reveal has already created strong excitement among fans.

Unlike previous games in the series, God of War Laufey places Faye at the centre of the story. After her death, she unexpectedly awakens in a mysterious realm known as the Everywhen. What should have been the end of her journey becomes the beginning of a brand-new adventure.

God of War Laufey 3

Faye soon learns that the plans she carefully created to protect Kratos and Atreus are now in danger. To save her family, she must travel through the afterlife of the gods and face powerful enemies from different mythologies. The Everywhen is described as a magical place where gods, creatures, and ancient powers from many worlds come together.

God of War Laufey

Santa Monica Studio says the game keeps the core elements that fans love about God of War. Players can expect intense combat, deep storytelling, and large areas to explore. The developers have designed Faye’s gameplay to feel fast, smooth, and powerful while still staying true to the series.

According to God of War Laufey Game Director Ariel Lawrence, Faye’s combat style combines the speed and movement seen in the older Greek-era games with the close and personal combat of the Norse saga. Players will be able to move quickly between ground and air attacks, creating fluid and aggressive combat encounters.

God of War Laufey 2

One of the biggest additions is Faye’s unique soul-based abilities. As the Golden Hand of the Jotnar, she can separate an enemy’s soul from its body and use that power to create devastating attacks and creative combat combinations. These abilities become even stronger inside the Everywhen, a realm filled with ancient magic.

Faye will also wield a powerful legendary sword during her journey. The weapon focuses on speed, precision, and continuous attacks, allowing players to build momentum and keep pressure on enemies throughout battles.

God of War Laufey 4

The story will introduce several new characters. Deborah Ann Woll returns as Faye, while Jack Quaid voices Phranque, a friendly cosmic cube who joins her adventure. Perlina Lau plays Rue, a magical guardian responsible for protecting a powerful sword.

The game will also explore a major mystery that has existed since God of War Ragnarok. Players will finally learn what happens to gods after they die. During her journey, Faye will encounter powerful figures such as Sekhmet and Begtse while uncovering the secrets hidden within the Everywhen.

Although Sony has not shared a launch date, God of War Laufey looks set to deliver a fresh chapter for the franchise. With Faye leading the story, a mysterious setting, and fast-paced combat, the game could become one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 releases in the coming years.

God of War Laufey Brings Back the Fluidity of the Greek Saga While Retaining the Norse Saga’s Gritty, Personal Combat

3 June 2026 at 11:00

A scene from 'God of War Laufey' shows Faye facing Begtse in a cave, with the text 'Captured On PS5® Pro' in the bottom right corner.

After many rumors, Santa Monica Studio finally unveiled God of War Laufey, the next chapter in the action/adventure franchise and the first to feature a main character other than Kratos. We already knew from the rumor mill that the protagonist would be Faye (whose birth name is Laufey, hence the title), which led most to assume this would be a prequel, since her death kickstarts the events of 2018's God of War game. However, the developers have conceived a wholly different narrative: despite not having been previously called a god, after her funeral pyre, she awakes in a strange place […]

Edge of Memories Soundtrack Interview: Dynamic Combat, Iconic RPG Collaborations, and Why AI Can’t Replace the Soul

29 May 2026 at 12:30

A character in Edge of Memories rides on a large white creature through a lush, colorful landscape in the game Blue Protocol.

Edge of Memories is the second entry in the series by French developer Midgar Studio, which began with Edge of Eternity back in 2018 with its Early Access release. Doing away with turn-based combat, the new entry in the series will be an action RPG heavily inspired by the Mana series, sporting a colorful cast of characters and a setting that seems ripe for adventure. While we wait for the Edge of Memories release date announcement, we sat down with the musical minds behind the game: main composer Cédric Menendez, celebrated arranger and composer Mariam Abounnasr (Xenoblade Chronicles), and legendary […]

Returnal game director announces brand new studio ‘Cosmic Division’

21 May 2026 at 09:15

Back in 2023, following the successful launch of Returnal – and the subsequent acquisition of Housemarque by PlayStation – long-time game director Harry Krueger revealed that he was departing the studio after nearly a decade and a half. While his future plans were kept under wraps at the time, Krueger has now officially announced and unveiled the brand new studio ‘Cosmic Division’.

Making the announcement via a press release, the Finland-based game studio Cosmic Division has now been officially unveiled, with Krueger serving as founder and CEO.

Speaking on this new initiative, the CEO offered insight into the mentality behind Cosmic Division’s creation, stating: “we're building on our strengths while finding a new edge through fresh themes, ideas and talent. We believe there is always room for games built on timeless values that trust the player and leave a lasting impact.”

Taking lessons from other newly-established studios, Cosmic Division aims to operate on a “lean-and-mean philosophy” prioritising “craftsmanship, fast iteration, and sustainable growth over scale.”

Cosmic Division Returnal

Unfortunately, we will have to wait a bit longer to learn about what the team is working on, with Krueger and co. simply teasing that they are developing “a single-player PC and console title” aiming to deliver “an unapologetically gameplay-first experience and a story with strong emotional resonance” – not too dissimilar to the likes of Returnal.

Of course, Cosmic Division is operating on a much smaller scale when compared to Housemarque, and so expectations should be kept in check. Still, the notion of having another studio working on titles with a similar mentality to Housemarque is exciting to see. The full press release can be found HERE.

Discuss on our Facebook page HERE.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this announcement? What was the first Housemarque game you played? What are your expectations for Cosmic Division’s debut title? Let us know down below.

Hotta Studio, a subsidiary of Perfect World Games previously known for 2022's Tower of Fantasy, has an ambitious roadmap in mind for Neverness to Everness, and the team isn't treating the recent launch on PC, PS5, Android, and iOS as the finish line. Set in the supernatural metropolis of Hethereau, the urban open world RPG powered by Unreal Engine 5 and enhanced with path tracing on PC is built around a simple but unusually broad fantasy: live in the city, explore its anomalies, fight when you need to, and fill the gaps between major story beats with the kind of […]

The AI Revolution Transformed A Mac Studio Into An Archiving System, Running Local Models To Store A Family’s Entire Memories, While Running At 12W

14 May 2026 at 15:36

Mac Studio got turned into a family archiving system thanks to the use of local AI models

Apple’s unified memory architecture has made its Mac Studio and Mac mini computers into agentic AI powerhouses, with users able to automate their tasks thanks to the use of local models that help simplify their daily tasks. One person in particular believed there was little benefit to storing his entire family’s memories on cloud-based services like Google Drive, which is why he resorted to running everything on his compact workstation, calling it the “Mac Merlin.” Here’s how he made everything possible. Thanks to the Mac Studio’s 64GB of unified memory paired with open-source AI models and an external storage backup, […]

Dead Space Writer/Producer Kills Any Remaining Hope for Dead Space 4: “The Numbers Aren’t There”

12 May 2026 at 17:52

A character in 'Dead Space' wearing an armored suit with glowing blue lights stands in a dimly lit industrial corridor.

Dead Space is arguably one of the most enduring horror franchises in video games after its run of three games during the seventh console generation catapulted it to a permanent place in the minds of many young gamers between 2007 and 2013. A decade after Dead Space 3 failed to match the success of the first two games, the much-loved 2023 remake of the first game from Motive Studio revitalized hope that we'd see the series make a huge comeback. But that's not going to happen, according to one of the game's original writers and producers, Chuck Beaver. In an […]
