GTA 6’s Reddit Traffic Has Quadrupled Since Mid-August, and Piper Sandler Now Sees 48 Million Launch Units

11 September 2026 at 08:30

Jason and Lucia from GTA 6, armed with guns standing in a dimly lit room, looking cautiously toward a light source outside through a window.

Two separate pieces of analyst research dedicated to GTA 6 landed this week, and while they measure entirely different things, they tell a remarkably consistent story about how far the reach of Rockstar's prized franchise now extends beyond its own fanbase. Piper Sandler Raises Its Sales Projection Again Back in June, we covered Piper Sandler's initial projection framework, which analyzed subreddit traffic from roughly 15 major game launches to estimate that GTA 6 would sell more than 45 million units at launch. Analyst James Callahan's new note, issued this week, pushes the already massive sales projection even further. Weekly visitors […]

GTA 6 PC Could Arrive Sooner Than Expected, As Rising Console Prices Reportedly Pressure Rockstar to Move Fast

4 September 2026 at 15:05

Two characters driving in a convertible in a city setting from the game Grand Theft Auto VI.

GTA 6 is finally launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in a little over two months, but the wait for PC players will be longer, as Rockstar Games has yet to announce when this version of the game will launch. In the recent past, it took roughly one year for games like GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to launch on PC following their PlayStation 4 and Xbox One releases, but there's been some ramblings that the current console market conditions which are forcing the prices of consoles up years after their original launch may push Rockstar […]

Sony Doubles Down on its Rockstar Alliance with GTA VI DualSense Controllers, Echoing Two Decades of PlayStation-Rockstar History

4 September 2026 at 07:35

Two PlayStation DualSense controllers with a custom GTA VI design are displayed against a backdrop featuring the 'Grand Theft Auto' logo.

Sony Interactive Entertainment used yesterday's meaty State of Play broadcast to unveil two limited edition DualSense Wireless Controllers themed after Rockstar's GTA VI, with both set to land alongside the game itself on November 19. The Black Limited Edition is designed around Vice City after dark, all neon and nightlife. The White Limited Edition takes the opposite style, evoking the city at daybreak with white sand and pastel skies. Both retail for $84.99, €84.99, £74.99, or ¥12,480, which is a $10 premium over a standard DualSense gamepad. Both are predictably made in limited quantities and go through PlayStation Direct and […]

Rockstar’s GTA VI Preview Dwarfed Netflix’s Own Films by 8 Million Views, After Briefly Taking the Platform Offline

2 September 2026 at 15:45

Two characters with bandanas face a 'Grand Theft Auto VI' GTA VI poster, promoting 'An Extended Look' on Netflix scheduled for August 27 at 3 PM ET, set against a backdrop of a gas station and palm trees.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody familiar with the franchise, Variety reports that GTA VI: An Extended Look, the broadcast that debuted exclusively on Netflix last week before landing everywhere else six hours later, has topped weekly views on the premiere streaming service. Netflix's own figures give GTA VI: An Extended Look 31.1 million views across four days, counted from its debut on Thursday, August 27, through Sunday, August 30, when the platform's weekly Top 10 window closes. That was enough to make it the most-watched title on the service last week. The special broadcast was classified under Netflix's English-language […]

GTA VI Won’t Just Be Bigger Than GTA V, as Rockstar Touts Deeper Interactivity Than Even Red Dead Redemption 2

1 September 2026 at 14:00

Jason and Lucia from GTA VI on a motorcycle are being pursued by a police car and helicopter in a scene from the game Grand Theft Auto VI.

While the Netflix-sponsored Extended Look at GTA VI certainly provided fans with the longest look at the game yet, there are many questions still left unanswered ahead of the scheduled November 19 debut. Luckily, Rockstar Games is slowly lowering its barrier by talking with select members of the press. The French website TroisCouleurs actually got to play the game a little during a visit to the studio, and they also spoke with Head of Development Rob Nelson, who revealed several juicy details, such as the size of Vice City and the amount of towns that players will be able to […]

GTA 6 cars need fuel now, even the electric ones

By: Aftab Ali
31 August 2026 at 13:58

Forget infinite petrol. GTA 6 is making you actually watch the fuel gauge.

Rockstar North co-director Rob Nelson confirmed the change during an interview with Brazilian creator DavyJones, who got an early look at the game in July. Cars, and even electric vehicles, will need refuelling or recharging as you play. Nelson described hijacking a car mid police chase only to find it a quarter full, turning a shootout into a race against the fuel light too.

Rockstar says it won’t be a chore

Nelson insists the system won’t punish you every five minutes. A full tank should last a good while, so this sounds more like added texture than a new grind. I reckon that’s the right call. Refuelling only works if it creates the odd tense moment, not a constant errand.

GTA 6 screenshot

It fits a bigger pattern too. Rockstar’s own boss has said past protagonists felt “a bit all-powerful,” and GTA 6 seems built to strip some of that away. Between fuel, a beefed up carjacking system, and everything else, this is Rockstar’s most grounded open world yet, closer to Red Dead Redemption 2 than any past GTA.

We’ll see how it holds up when GTA 6 launches on Nov. 19. If refuelling turns annoying, Rockstar can always dial it back.

Rockstar finally addresses GTA 6 leak chaos head-on

By: Aftab Ali
26 August 2026 at 13:14

Rockstar Games has finally said something about the GTA 6 leak mess that’s been swallowing gaming Twitter for a week.

A group calling itself CYBERLEEK has been dumping GTA 6 clips online, dressing it up as some kind of protest against the death of physical PlayStation discs. Cute story. Then the paid polls showed up, letting people vote on what leaked next for cash, and the whole “we’re doing this for gamers” act fell apart instantly.

GTA 6 - Grand Theft Auto 6

Heartbreaking for our GTA 6 team

Rockstar posted its response on social media on 26 August, calling the situation heartbreaking for the team. Fair enough, honestly. Watching months of work leak out for someone else’s crypto grift would sting.

pic.twitter.com/KGqoxFqYho

— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) August 26, 2026

Here’s the twist though. Tomorrow, Rockstar, Take-Two, and Netflix are dropping an official GTA 6 documentary, and it’s going to make CYBERLEEK’s grainy clips look like a joke. Cinematic, built from the latest build, and actually sanctioned. Sometimes the best clapback is just releasing the real thing.

89% of GTA 6 Pre-Orders are for the $100 Ultimate Edition

By: Aftab Ali
14 August 2026 at 08:05

Turns out most people aren’t blinking at GTA 6‘s $100 price tag. New data from Sensor Tower shows 89% of all pre-orders for the game are going towards the Ultimate Edition, not the standard one.

That number lines up with what Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick already hinted at: buyers are leaning premium. Karl Kontus, SVP at Sensor Tower, told GamesIndustry.biz that this figure will likely drop as more casual players jump in closer to launch, but the split should still land well above what’s normal for the industry. His words: “I expect the split for these to be much closer to 50/50… GTA 6 is very hard to forecast, given it lives in a league of its own.”

GTA 6 - Grand Theft Auto 6

Xbox and PS5, GTA 6 buyers are basically twins on this

The console breakdown barely moves the needle. Xbox sits at 90% Ultimate Edition pre-orders, PlayStation is close behind at 88.5%. Whatever platform people are on, they’re paying up.

Marketing for the game hasn’t even properly started yet, and Kontus expects most pre-orders to land in the final week before release. So this 89% figure is really just an early read, not the full picture.

GTA 6 - Grand Theft Auto 6

There’s more hype coming too. A Netflix look at GTA 6 is landing later this month, and Zelnick has already been talking up that partnership. Rockstar clearly isn’t worried about people opening their wallets wide.

Remedy Keeps Its Silence On Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake, As Rockstar Seizes Control Of Its Promotion

11 August 2026 at 14:54

A silhouette of a man holding a gun against a red background, resembling cover art from the video game series Max Payne.

Besides working on CONTROL Resonant, which will mark a significant shift for the franchise with the introduction of action gameplay reminiscent of games like Devil May Cry, Remedy Entertainment is working on the Max Payne 1 and 2 Remake for Rockstar Games. In today's financial report, the Finnish developer reiterated that the remake is in full production, but did not elaborate further on the current progress, and we may not hear much about it for a few more months, as the ball is apparently in Rockstar Games' court. As reported by Rockstar Intel, during the Q&A session held after the […]

Take-Two CEO Calls GTA 6 Preorders “Unprecedented,” Explains Why It Won’t Ship on a Disc

7 August 2026 at 14:00

Jason and Lucia from GTA 6 wearing bandanas and holding guns during a tense moment in the game Grand Theft Auto VI.

During today's Q1 FY 2027 earnings call, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that Rockstar's GTA 6 has made an exceptional and unprecedented start to preorders, although the publisher is refusing to disclose an actual sales figure or treat the early response as a finished victory: We've received exceptional pre-order reception to GTA 6. I'm not gonna tell you how many units we've sold, or we're selling, but I'd say that the sales are unprecedented and astonishing and astronomical, and that we don't know how to translate that into numbers yet. We're not taking a victory lap about pre-order sales […]

Rockstar Games sets GTA VI Extended Look for August 27, but the Netflix Exclusive Changes the Usual Marketing Plan

6 August 2026 at 12:15

Two GTA VI characters, Jason and Lucia, standing in front of a gas station with the text 'Grand Theft Auto VI,' 'An Extended Look,' and 'Netflix | August 27 | 3 PM ET' visible.

Following increasingly loud rumors that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) would finally get an extended look later this month, Rockstar Games has now confirmed that that will happen on Thursday, August 27, three weeks from today. The big surprise is that the extended look will premiere exclusively on Netflix at 3 PM Eastern Time, while Rockstar's YouTube channel and the official website will offer the same footage from 9 PM Eastern Time. It's yet another example of the big marketing campaign that Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick had said would begin in Summer 2026. Sure enough, here we are. […]

GTA 6 Panic Emptied November Calendars, But Danganronpa 2×2 Was Delayed Just So Its Creator Could Play It

4 August 2026 at 11:31

A character in the game 'GTA 6 is holding a gun next to their face, while another character aims a weapon in the background.

GTA 6's launch on November 16 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S is set to be one of the biggest game launches of all time, and every other video game publisher has done everything it could to launch their games as far from it as possible, leading to the most packed September and October in recent memory. However, not every game delayed by Rockstar Games' highly anticipated open-world game had its release date moved for economic reasons. Danganronpa series creator Kazutaka Kodaka delayed Danganronpa 2x2 as, otherwise, he wouldn't have had enough time to play GTA 6. "Of course, we wanted more […]

Rockstar Canned Midnight Club 5 with a London Map, Ex-Designer Says, as GTA Swallowed Every Rival Project

4 August 2026 at 09:30

Two cars racing through a city street in the game 'Midnight Club: Los Angeles,' with a red Dodge Challenger and a black muscle car in the foreground. Rockstar has since shelved Midnight Club, focusing only on GTA.

It's been nearly twenty years since Rockstar released Midnight Club: Los Angeles, the latest entry in the arcade racing Midnight Club franchise. Fans of the series have practically lost hope of seeing another installment; however, former Rockstar San Diego designer Kris Roberts revealed to Kiwi Talkz (via Insider Gaming) that a Midnight Club 5 project existed and was eventually canned by the label, which seemed to look down on the Midnight Club team due to its massively inferior popularity compared to Grand Theft Auto. When I left, the core Midnight Club team continued to develop. I think they had even […]

GTA 6 Silence Sparks Delay Fears, but Trusted Insider Shreds the Panic Ahead of November Release, Teasing Big August Showing

29 July 2026 at 10:44

A character from the game GTA 6 sitting on a yellow motorcycle in front of a building with a neon sign reading 'LIQUOR BAR'.

Although Rockstar Games promised that GTA 6 marketing would ramp up during the summer, we're now close to August and both the developer and publisher Take-Two Interactive are keeping a rather tight lid on one of the most anticipated games of all time launching on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. For some, this radio silence could be a sign of bad news, but it seems like worrying isn't warranted at all, as well-known insider Nate The Hate suggested that we should see plenty of the game next month. "I expect to see a fair bit of […]

PlayStation 5 GTA 6 Download Codes Turn Region Locked, Leaving Importers Stuck While Xbox Buyers Escape the Restriction

27 July 2026 at 10:24

A character in Grand Theft Auto VI sits in a car with palm trees visible through the window, wearing a tank top with 'Kondria' printed on it.

Following months of rumors and speculation, it was confirmed last month that GTA 6 won't launch on disc on either PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, as all retail copies of the game will be a download code, with the status of an actual disc release still uncertain. As if this decision couldn't get even more controversial, Rockstar Games provided a clarification on how the download code for the game works, a clarification which delivers a rare win for Xbox Series X|S users, which won't have to worry about anything other than pre-loading the game ahead of its November 19 […]

A Modder Fits Entire Grand Theft Auto PS2 Trilogy Inside a Single Game, While Rockstar Continues to Prepare GTA 6

20 July 2026 at 10:33

Three characters from the 'Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition' are depicted in action poses across different urban settings.

Development of GTA 6 is in full-swing ahead of the game's release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S this November, but the impending release of one of the most anticipated games of all time from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive isn't stopping other developers coming up with something cool for older entries in the series. While Grove Street Games struggled with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, a single modder managed to fit the entire PlayStation 2 trilogy into a single game for what has quickly become one of the most interesting modding projects for the […]

GTA 6 is on Pace to Outsell Every Game’s Pre-Order Campaign, as Newzoo Pegs 51 Million Copies in Week One

16 July 2026 at 12:35

Jason and Lucia from GTA 6 wearing 'Vice City' merchandise stand in front of a mural featuring a stylized alligator with the text 'Vice City'.

A fresh report from gaming market analyst firm Newzoo suggests that GTA 6's opening week of pre-orders has already set a new benchmark for the industry, with the game on pace to book between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion in launch-week revenue alone. According to Newzoo's Game Performance Monitor, Rockstar's long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 generated roughly $180 million in digital pre-order spending across the US and the five largest European markets (UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain) in the final week of June, when pre-orders first opened. Newzoo then used GTA 5's lifetime console player distribution as a reference […]

GTA 6 Skips PC at Launch Not Out of Spite, As Console Limits Drive the Choice, Ex-Rockstar Producer Says

15 July 2026 at 11:32

Two characters from 'GTA 6' stand side by side against a sunset with palm trees in the background.

GTA 6 is without a doubt the most anticipated game of 2026 for many, but only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners will be able to experience Rockstar Games' open-world title this November, as the game will not hit PC at the same time. Although many have long suspected this staggered release strategy is meant to get players to purchase multiple versions of the game, veteran GTA 5 producer John Ricchio (who worked at the studio from 2003 to 2014) confirmed there are other reasons behind this strategy, mostly technical. Speaking in an interview with Kiwi Talks, Ricchio emphasized […]

GTA Trilogy Dev Finally Admits Fans Were Right, Yet Says the Disaster Wasn’t Entirely the Remaster’s Fault

7 July 2026 at 20:00

The image features three artwork panels of female characters from the game 'Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition' with the game logo on the right.

When GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition launched in November 2021, it was supposed to be a glossy return to three of the most beloved games in Rockstar's history (GTA 3, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas), which redefined the open world genre upon their respective releases. Instead, it immediately became one of the most widely mocked releases in recent memory, with players pointing to bugs, broken lighting, bizarre character models, missing songs, misspelled signs, and even forced Rockstar to pull the PC version temporarily after dataminers uncovered unintentionally included files, including leftover music, developer notes, and other cut content. […]
