GTA 6’s $80 Price Tag Doesn’t Set a New AAA Games Price Floor, But it Does β€œWiden the Gap Between the Haves and the Have-Nots,” Says Analyst

24 June 2026 at 19:06

A person with curly hair holds a martini glass and olives on a skewer, set against a colorful cityscape backdrop.

Back in November 2025, we got the information drop everyone was waiting for: the release date for GTA 6. Yes, it came packaged as a delay announcement, and there was technically no guarantee it would stick, but it ultimately has, as we finally got the other bit of information everyone has been waiting for today: how much Rockstar's long-awaited game would cost. $80 for the Standard Edition and $100 for the Ultimate Edition calmed fears that the barrier to entry for GTA 6 would start at $100, but now those same fears turn towards the rest of the video game […]

Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch at $80 for base game, $100 for Ultimate Edition

24 June 2026 at 14:00

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are finally going live ahead of the game's November launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. There has been much debate around the potential cost of the game, with some estimates going as high as $120. GTA 6 will be more expensive than a typical AAA game, but not by much.Β

Grand Theft Auto 6 will officially be priced at $79.99, making it the first game to go even further beyond the $70 price point set by Sony and other publishers at the start of the current console generation. The Ultimate Edition for GTA 6 is only $20 more, a move likely done intentionally to convince more people to buy the edition with extra content. Chances are, the Ultimate Edition will sell very well even at this price tag.

Rockstar has also so far only focused on the single-player experience in all of its marketing. This might indicate that GTA Online won't be available at launch, and Rockstar may even go as far as giving it its own price tag as a standalone purchase and not including it with the single-player game at all. That's all just speculation for now, but there are big financial pressures on GTA 6 to deliver, and selling GTA Online as an extra purchase would help them meet those goals pretty quickly.

Xbox Decides to Get Out of the Way of GTA 6, Delays Fable to February 2027

29 May 2026 at 16:59

A collage showcasing 'Minecraft Dungeons II,' 'Forza Horizon 6,' 'Halo: Campaign Evolved,' 'Gears of War: E-Day,' 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III,' and 'Fable' under the text 'NEW AND UPCOMING.'

Fable has been delayed into February 2027, it was announced today by Xbox ahead of its Xbox Games Showcase as part of Summer Game Fest 2026 on June 7, 2026. After just getting done with bringing Forza Horizon 6 to market, developer Playground Games is getting a little more time to polish up the reboot of the RPG series, though the delay seems to be as much about avoiding Grand Theft Auto 6 as it is about Playground needing the extra time. A statement from Xbox shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account directly cites the onslaught of major […]

Take-Two reaffirms GTA 6 release date and raises forecast to $8 billion

22 May 2026 at 15:30

Take-Two just held its end-of-year earnings report, confirming sales from the previous year and forecasting the next 12 months. As you would expect, Take-Two used the opportunity to reaffirm the November launch date for GTA 6, while also estimating a massive $8 billion in revenue for the year ahead.Β

Many analysts already expect Grand Theft Auto 6 is going to be the best-selling game of all time. Take-Two is inclined to agree, with a significantly higher forecast for the next year. While Take-Two brought in $5.33 billion in 24-25 and $6.72 billion in 25-26, the company expects to make as much as $8.1billion in the 26-27 fiscal year. The reason for the bump is obvious – Grand Theft Auto 6 is coming out.

With all of this in mind, it would seem that Take-Two expects GTA 6 to bring in more than $1 billion on its own during the current fiscal year.

During the call, Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, also reaffirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is still planned to release on November 19th, and marketing is due to ramp up this summer, although Take-Two says it will be handling marketing a little differently this time around compared to GTA V. There will be fewer β€˜network TV' ads and instead, the focus will be on web advertisement, as network TV is considered a less reliable medium nowadays given the rise of streaming over the past decade.

KitGuru Says: Are you planning on picking up GTA 6 at launch or will you be waiting for the PC version in a couple years' time?Β

GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Not Opening Monday and Review Copies Won’t Be Sent to Press, According to Insiders

17 May 2026 at 09:30

Two characters stand on a dock with guns in a tropical city setting with 'Grand Theft Auto VI' GTA 6 text above them.

Following the discovery of an affiliate Best Buy email suggesting GTA 6 pre-orders will open on Monday, May 18, the millions of fans of Rockstar's blockbuster franchise have already prepared their digital wallets in anticipation. However, according to Tom Henderson, while the affiliate email is legitimate, nothing is actually happening until July or August. During the latest Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, he said: Yeah, we said this for the longest time, right? I think we've all said that we believe we're not going to get anything tangible until July, August, especially August, when their next earnings call is going to […]

Rockstar may open up GTA 6 pre-orders next week

14 May 2026 at 13:00

It looks like Take-Two will soon ramp up marketing for Grand Theft Auto 6. We already knew that there were plans to reveal more about the game this Summer, but now a major US retailer may have leaked the pre-order date.Β

According to a Best Buy Affiliate Program email sent out to participants, the US retail giant will begin accepting pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 next week. This has fans anticipating a new trailer to release around the same time, reaffirming the release date and opening up pre-orders widely.

It is also entirely possible that Best Buy is acting on its own here and opening up pre-orders to get an idea of the number of physical copies it will have to order. Many retailers offer pre-orders for highly-anticipated games separately from the publisher, as they can source the product through distribution channels.

As pointed out by VGC, Take-Two is set to hold its quarterly earnings call on May 21st, which would line-up with Best Buy's plans to open up pre-orders. In the past, Rockstar has made announcements either right before, or immediately after Take-Two earnings calls.

KitGuru Says: While we have had two trailers so far, Grand Theft Auto 6 still seems like an intangible thing at the moment. With marketing ramping up, fans should start to feel confidence in the November release date.Β

β€œYou’re Judged by Serving the Core”: Take-Two Boss Talks Why GTA 6 Arrives on Consoles First and PC Second

4 May 2026 at 20:04

A character in 'Grand Theft Auto VI' standing next to a green Principe Alvino V1 bike with palm trees in the background.

Grand Theft Auto VI will be the biggest video game launch, and perhaps the biggest launch of any single piece of entertainment in history, when it arrives. Whether that's on November 19, 2026, as is the current plan, or on a different date due to an unforeseen delay, that statement is practically set in stone, and that'll happen despite GTA 6 only arriving on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles to start, and not on PC. Why it won't arrive on PC is a topic of much debate, with speculation being that Rockstar and Take-Two would rather let players […]

GTA 6 Maker Rockstar Confirms It Was Hacked, Claims the Breach had β€œNo Impact” on the Studio or Players, Hackers to Release Stolen Data

13 April 2026 at 14:26

A man with tattoos and sunglasses is relaxing on a pink inflatable in a swimming pool, surrounded by floating beverage cans, wearing a cap and floral swim trunks.

Rockstar, the studio behind several of the biggest video games of all time who will soon add another game to that list with the release of GTA 6 later this year, confirmed over the weekend that a group of hackers had indeed successfully stolen some measure of data from the company. The hackers are the ShinyHunters group, and they threatened to release the data if Rockstar didn't meet their demands for a ransom. ShinyHunters released a statement after it had obtained the data, which it seemingly did not by hacking directly into Rockstar, but by jumping through a loophole created […]

Rockstar confirms it was hacked as attackers threaten to leak data

13 April 2026 at 13:30

Late last week, a hacking group claimed to have breached Rockstar Games, stealing a selection of data, none of which is believed to be related to Grand Theft Auto 6. Now, Rockstar has confirmed it did suffer a cyber-attack recently.

In a statement sent to press outlets like Kotaku and Insider Gaming, Rockstar confirmed the reports of a hack, saying: β€œWe can confirm that a limited amount of non-material company information was accessed in connection with a third-party data breach. This incident has no impact on our organization or our players.”

The group behind the attack, known as ShinyHunters, claimed to have company data, including financial information, studies on player habits and other information, all obtained from cloud-based servers.

The group has since said that their ransom demand went unpaid and as a result, the stolen information will be released. It does not sound like any information related to Grand Theft Auto 6 will be part of this leak, unlike Rockstar's previous breach in 2022, which did lead to multiple gameplay clips of an alpha version of the game making their way online.

KitGuru Says: Rockstar was never going to be paying a ransom, as the company's past history shows.Β

GTA 6 – Everything We Know About the Most Anticipated Game Ever Made

6 April 2026 at 13:00

Two GTA 6 characters, Jason and Lucia, holding guns and standing on a dock in front of a cityscape with the text 'Grand Theft Auto VI' above them.

Grand Theft Auto 6, or GTA 6 for short, is quite simply the most anticipated (and most expensive, in all likelihood) product in the history of entertainment. It follows Grand Theft Auto 5, the second-best-selling game of all time (by verified sales figures) with 225 million units sold, after a 13-year wait that nearly spanned two full console generations. The industry and gaming fanbase are literally waiting with bated breath to see what developer Rockstar Games has created after such a long development time and such an incredible amount of resources invested in the project. Rockstar North alone spent nearly […]

β€˜Creative Constraints? Go Nuts’: Former Rockstar Dev Reveals Grand Theft Auto 6 β€˜Unlimited’ Development Blueprint

30 March 2026 at 15:17

Two characters from Grand Theft Auto 6 sit on a bed with a bag full of money and a handgun.

One element that sets Rockstar Games' open-world titles apart from every other is the massive scale and attention to detail of their setting. This doesn't happen by chance, as it is the product of essentially unlimited budgets and a design philosophy with no creative constraints that is set to make Grand Theft Auto 6 a game like very few others, according to what former Rockstar Audio Designer Rob Carr (Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto 5) recently revealed in a new interview with Kiwi Talkz. "You can kind of go nuts... As a creative person, I’ve never had [creative restraints] […]

According to dataminer PlayStation Game Size (@PlaystationSize on X), Rockstar Games has just added title IDs for Grand Theft Auto VI on Sony's PlayStation Store, possibly hinting at pre-orders opening in the near future: Grand Theft Auto VI title IDs have been added to the PlayStation database. I expect we’ll see something about the game soon, probably the start of pre-orders. When asked how long it usually takes between the time when title IDs first appear on the store and the actual reveal of the pricing information, the dataminer replied: To be honest, it completely depends on the publisher, and […]
