It's been nearly six months since NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang surprised GTC 2026 attendees and viewers all around the world with the reveal of DLSS 5. This new version of NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling suite would focus on significantly enhancing game visuals using a machine learning model, with Huang calling it the company's most significant graphics breakthrough since the debut of real time ray tracing in 2018 and the "GPT moment for graphics." The reveal would, however, quickly prove highly divisive among gamers and developers, with some praising its massive graphics improvements and others criticizing the technology for changing […]

DLSS 5 launches this week starting with NBA 2K27

1 September 2026 at 13:01

Nvidia is now launching DLSS 5 officially, with support coming to NBA 2K27 starting on September 3rd. For now, NBA 2K27 will be the only officially supported game, but we should see a ramp up of supported games in the coming months.

DLSS 5 was first announced at GTC earlier this year. At the time, the technology was shown running in games like Starfield and Resident Evil Requiem, but the first official game to utilise it will be one not previously announced. NBA 2K27 officially launches to all on September 3rd, after a lengthy 9-day early access period for deluxe edition buyers. On PC, it will have DLSS 5 at launch.

The fact that the DLSS 5 files leaked through the early access build of NBA 2K27, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise to see the game announced this week. DLSS 5 will be accessible on all RTX 50 series GPUs, and there does not appear to be any plans to extend official support to older RTX 40 or RTX 30 GPUs.

DLSS 5 marks a shift in focus for Nvidia. Previous DLSS versions were primarily about boosting performance, but DLSS 5 aims to improve visual fidelity in ways that weren’t possible with traditional rendering. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see the comparison screenshots and performance results once we get to try it for ourselves.

NVIDIA's DLSS 5 marks a major shift for the company's AI-powered graphics technologies, using Neural Rendering to enhance lighting, materials, skin, hair, and other visual elements in real time. NVIDIA is positioning it as a “significant step” toward more photorealistic game graphics, while still giving developers and artists control over how the effect is applied. Although DLSS 5 isn't officially available in games yet, PC gaming enthusiasts have already managed to get an early and unofficial version working. An experimental runtime library shipped with the early access PC build of NBA 2K27, and members of the RenoDX Discord server quickly […]
