Ubisoft has a Ghost Recon announcement coming in August

22 July 2026 at 14:21

Following on from recent leaks, Ubisoft has begun teasing a major Ghost Recon update arriving in August.

Over the last week, rumours of a Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition have been doing the rounds. The game is expected to re-release on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles with support for 60FPS gameplay, as well as a brand-new mission.

The Definitive Edition is also said to include all previous season pass content and cosmetic packs, such as the Deluxe Pack. While the headline feature here is an upgrade to 60FPS on console, we expect that the Definitive Edition package will also be available to PC players.

Ubisoft has not yet confirmed that the Definitive Edition is legit, but the publisher did say that it will have a Ghost Recon announcement on August 6th to celebrate the series' 25th anniversary.

KitGuru Says: Given that Ghost Recon is hitting 25 years, I hope that Ubisoft will have a little more to announce, beyond the new Definitive Edition for Wildlands. A new Ghost Recon game would be great to see, even if it is just a teaser.

Ghost Recon Wildlands appears to be getting a 4K60fps update on current-gen consoles

21 July 2026 at 11:00

Ubisoft has been one of the better publishers when it comes to updating its 8th-gen titles for modern platforms. While the extent of each patch has varied, Ghost Recon Wildlands appears to be set to receive a pretty substantial update, with users noting marketing materials advertising an upcoming 4K60FPS ‘Definitive Edition.’

As reported by multiple users, Ubisoft appears to be gearing up to announce a ‘Definitive Edition’ of 2017’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Taking to the game’s subreddit, users shared a splash screen which seems to confirm that Ghost Recon Wildlands will be receiving an update in August, bringing some cosmetic packs alongside a ‘new mission’.

By far the most exciting part of the update however is the fact that Wildlands will seemingly be updated with full 4K and 60fps support (compared to its current 1440p 30fps offering).

Ghost Recon Wildlands

Of course, we will have to wait for official confirmation from Ubisoft themselves before jumping to conclusions. That being said, the publisher has somewhat acknowledged the leaks, recently taking to Twitter to write: “It’s been a while Ghosts! We know some of you saw some updates, we’ll have more to say on the 6th of August when we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Ghost Recon. Intel coming soon.”

Given that the August date lines up with the aforementioned splash screen, it’s safe to assume that the information is legit. It will be interesting to learn whether this update will bring with it a bespoke current-gen app, or if it will function more as a backwards compatible+ type of experience. We shouldn’t have to wait long to find out.

KitGuru says: What did you think of Ghost Recon Wildlands? How does it compare to 2019’s breakpoint? What other Ubisoft games do you hope will receive a current-gen update? Let us know down below.

Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon Game is Reportedly in Such Deep Development Hell that Staff Fear it’s at Risk of a Reboot or Cancelation

A character in military gear with a skull mask holds a weapon, set against a backdrop of large dog tags hanging in the shadows.

Surprise surprise, another report points to trouble at Ubisoft, the company that started 2026 with a "major reset," which continues to include the laying off of hundreds of developers as the entire company gets reorganized into a new structure and Tencent enters the picture with Vantage Studios. Following more layoffs reported just days ago, a new report from Insider-Gaming points to trouble with its upcoming Ghost Recon project, which it claims is struggling deeply in its development. The report cites an internal memo shared with Insider-Gaming that states the upcoming Ghost Recon game, codenamed Project OVR, has failed to meet […]

Ubisoft has a new Ghost Recon game in the works

21 May 2026 at 15:00

Aside from plans to produce the first ‘Generative AI game', Ubisoft does have more traditional titles in the works for release over the next couple of years. In its latest earnings report, Ubisoft confirmed that it will be launching new Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Ghost Recon games.

As part of Ubisoft's end of fiscal year earnings report (via VGC), the company said that three of its biggest franchises, Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, will get new games before March 2029. Ubisoft also expects a “strong rebound” during the next fiscal year, indicating that most of these new projects will be targeting 2027/2028

Ubisoft should have a successful 2026 as well, thanks to continued strong performance from Rainbow Six Siege, as well as new games like Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced, which launches in July.

Unfortunately, this earnings report did not bring any update on the status of the Splinter Cell remake, which has been in development for several years at this point.

Tom Henderson: Splinter Cell Remake Delayed, Far Cry in Trouble, Ghost Recon Is Ubisoft’s Next Big Game

18 April 2026 at 10:30

Insider Gaming's founder and chief leaker, Tom Henderson, briefly discussed the state of Ubisoft's upcoming lineup during yesterday's Insider Gaming Weekly podcast. After reiterating that the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Resynced remake is the next big game on the release schedule, he added that the new Ghost Recon title will follow in the pipeline. It's been a long time since Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, which launched in October 2019 to a mixed reception and underwhelming sales. Ubisoft tried to right the ship with the launch of Immersive mode and the return of the series' trademark AI squadmates, but […]

Ubisoft reportedly ends game development at Red Storm Entertainment

19 March 2026 at 16:50

Since January, Ubisoft has been making cuts across the board and cancelling projects. The latest casualty is the publisher's Red Storm Entertainment studio, which is now reportedly laying off all of its game development talent.

According to VGC, Ubisoft has let go of its 105 developers at Red Storm Entertainment. The studio, which had previously been responsible for Tom Clancy titles like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon, will be transformed into a ‘global IT hub' for Ubisoft, offering support duties for systems and the proprietary Snowdrop Engine.

Red Storm Entertainment is based in North Carolina, USA, and has been in operation since 1996. Ubisoft acquired the studio in 2000 and for a time, this was the primary studio for Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon titles. In more recent years, the studio has primarily developed experimental games, like Star Trek: Bridge Crew and Assassin's Creed Nexus VR.

While Red Storm is not shutting down, it will no longer be one of Ubisoft's primary game development studios. The move will reduce the headcount at the studio by around 105 employees as part of Ubisoft's continued cost-cutting initative.

KitGuru Says: It is always a shame to see a long-standing legacy studio go through something like this.
