We wanted to show you what happens after the confetti falls. We checked in with some of our recent alumni, many of whom have sat down with us on Build Mode: The Founder Survival Guide, TechCrunch's podcast for founders at every stage.

After what was a record-breaking launch, EA’s Battlefield 6 has failed to maintain its momentum, with the game’s post-launch support unable to match the expectations set by other live-service experiences. That said, EA and DICE are still committed to the project, with the team now teasing their full 2026 roadmap.

Taking to YouTube to release a 6-minute dev talk (also detailed via their blog), the team at Battlefield Studios offered an early taste at everything fans can expect to look forward to throughout the rest of 2026.

While the live-service FPS has been off to a bit of a slow start with its first two post-launch Seasons, the rest of the year should hopefully be more feature-rich with 3 more Seasons in total scheduled for 2026.

Though we of course have not been given a full breakdown of everything to expect, Season 3 of Battlefield 6 is set to introduce:

• Railway to Golmud map
• Cairo Bazaar map
• Ranked Play 
• Battle Royale solos

Season 4 meanwhile will add:

• Tsuru Reef map
• Wake Island map
• Aircraft carriers with operational flight decks
• New naval vehicles
• Dynamic wave system
• Custom lobbies
• Spectator mode

2026 will conclude with the arrival of Season 5, though details on what to expect remain light; with the team simply sharing a teaser image for what appears to be a flamethrower of sorts.

Outside of new content, 2026 will also introduce many different quality-of-life improvements, including:

• A server browser with persistent servers
• Multiplayer leaderboards
• Platoons
• Proximity Chat
• Visibility enhancements
• Progression changes
• Map reworks

In the past few months sentiment surrounding Battlefield 6 has taken a drastic fall, and so while many of these additions likely should have been available since its initial launch, it is welcome nonetheless to see that BF Studios are trying to turn the game into what was originally promised/expected.

Battlefield Hardline remains one of the more interesting entries in EA’s massive FPS franchise, with the 2015 title being primarily developed by Visceral Games (as opposed to DICE) while moving away from military conflicts in order to focus on the “war on crime” – having you play as either police special response units or bog-standard criminals. Over a decade on from the game’s initial release, EA have now announced that BF: Hardline will officially be delisted from consoles this May; though it will remain playable and purchasable on PC.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Battlefield Comms page confirmed that “On Friday, May 22nd, Battlefield Hardline on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be removed from digital storefronts, and you will no longer be able to purchase it and all extra related content, such as DLC.”

They continued, “Online services on these platforms will end on Monday, June 22nd. While Hardline will no longer support online functionality on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, players who own the game will still be able to play the single-player component.”

As mentioned, this delisting only pertains to the console version of Hardline, with EA confirming that “Today’s update does not impact PC. Battlefield Hardline on PC will remain available, including online services.”

No direct explanation was given for this decision, however it is safe to assume that the game no longer has enough of a population on console to justify it remaining online. Of course, Hardline released in an era prior to the rise in crossplay, and so the game relies on there being a healthy playerbase across each platform individually.

Given that Battlefield Hardline was a PS3/PS4 generation title, it is unlikely that many console players are going back to experience what was a pretty controversial release. All that said, here’s to hoping that the PC servers remain online and active for years to come.
