What was meant to be a straightforward review of Geekom's A9 Max (2026) turned into something quite different. On paper it is very similar to the 2025 model we reviewed last September, the main difference being that CPU has been upgraded from the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, to the HX 470. It's a small spec bump, so we were expecting perhaps a 5% boost to performance. Instead, we found things were dramatically worse with the new model, so we had to dig a little deeper and find out what was going on…
While we do a greater analysis in the video, to cut to the chase, it all boils down to the memory configuration. It is not at all made clear on the product page, but despite both the 2025 and 2026 models shipping with 32GB DDR5 5600 SODIMM memory, the 2025 unit has a 2x16GB dual-channel configuration, whereas the 2026 model uses just a single 32GB stick. Following on from last week's announcement of the low-power Cubi NUC TWG mini PC, MSI has introduced another Cubi NUC system built for more demanding applications, powered by the new Intel Core Ultra 3 CPUs.
The Cubi NUC AI+ 3MG includes dual Thunderbolt 4 ports and support for up to four simultaneous displays. Networking is handled by two 2.5G Ethernet ports, giving the system redundancy and higher‑bandwidth options for enterprise environments.

But sometimes hardware testing doesn't go exactly to plan – so this time around, when my primary home network server suddenly died, this compact machine was drafted into emergency service to act as a VPN server, OPNsense router / firewall. On paper this seemed like a tough challenge, but a month later has it been a success?

5 7530U (6 Cores, 12 Threads, 16MB Cache, up to 4.5GHz).The Geekom A5 Pro is a machine that massively exceeded our expectations, primarily because we threw it into a scenario it was never designed for. Rather than light web browsing, we tasked it with running Proxmox, an OPNsense router/firewall, Home Assistant, and multiple other Docker containers to replace a dead server. The Ryzen 5 7530U is incredibly capable; even when routing traffic for an entire home network, CPU utilization never crossed the 40% mark. Cooling was also very impressive given it also remained whisper-quiet, with temperatures hovering in the high 50s while drawing as little as 14 watts.
That said, repurposing a standard mini PC as a network server was an emergency plan and not really an ideal solution. Having only a single Ethernet port requires significant networking gymnastics (like using a managed switch and VLAN tagging) to route both WAN and LAN traffic over one cable. Furthermore, the Realtek network controller is less ideal than an Intel equivalent for virtualised routing, requiring hardware offloading to be disabled to maintain stability. We also noted that the RAM and SSD in our unit came from a relatively unknown brand called Wodposit, though the SSD speeds (7.2GB/s read) were good during large file transfers.
Ultimately, while running a home network on a single-port mini PC is an impractical long-term solution, this month-long experiment proves just how capable these small machines are. If you are looking to dip your toes into the world of self-hosting and home labs without driving up your energy bill, the Geekom A5 Pro is definitely a versatile piece of hardware.

MSI has announced the Cubi NUC TWG Series, a new compact mini‑PC range powered by Intel’s N Series processors and housed in an ultra-compact 0.55‑litre chassis.
The Cubi NUC TWG supports up to three displays, including output over USB‑C, and includes dual‑LAN connectivity with 2.5G and 1G ports. MSI’s cable organiser is included to prevent accidental disconnections, and the system supports MSI Power Link so compatible MSI monitors can power the PC on or off directly. The mini‑PC is VESA‑mountable, and a fanless Cubi NUC TWG S variant is available for silent operation.

The system targets silent productivity and local AI workloads, offering a sizeable performance jump over the previous Senza model while maintaining zero‑noise operation through a large passive aluminium heatsink and heatpipe assembly.
The unit mounts beneath the desk using an included bracket, clearing surface space while keeping key controls within reach. A detachable front panel brings the power button and high‑speed ports to the table edge, and the compact chassis routes all other I/O to the rear. Connectivity includes USB4, USB‑A, HDMI 2.1, 2.5GbE, Wi‑Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, giving the system workstation‑class flexibility despite its small footprint.

NZXT has introduced the H2 Flow Mini‑ITX case and the C850 SFX power supply, two compact components aimed at small form factor builders who want high‑end hardware support without moving to a larger chassis. On top of that, the company is also releasing a high-end limited‑run H2 Mini PC, although it will only be available in the US for now.
The H2 Flow is a 20.7L vertical Mini‑ITX chassis designed to maximise airflow while keeping the desk footprint small. Its layout supports up to 280mm AIO liquid coolers and graphics cards up to 331mm long, giving it headroom for modern CPUs and GPUs despite the compact size. Tool‑less fine‑mesh panels on all sides maintain cooling performance while helping with dust control, and NZXT includes a PCIe 5.0 riser cable for vertical GPU mounting alongside two pre‑installed F120Q fans.
The C850 SFX power supply is built for current and next‑generation GPUs, offering ATX 3.1 certification, 80 Plus Gold and Cybenetics Platinum efficiency ratings, and a 600W 12V‑2×6 connector.
