Officially released late last year, Hell is Us is a 3rd-person melee focused action-adventure title which arrived to high praise, marking it as one of publisher Nacon’s best-rated games of all time. That said, all was not perfect, with one of its primary issues being a lack of enemy variety. With the game set to officially launch on Switch 2 next month, the team have announced a massive update arriving alongside it.

Publishing a new teaser trailer in celebration of the game’s 1st anniversary (alongside its impending Switch 2 launch), the team at Rogue Factor revealed that Hell Is Us will be receiving a major update across the board on the 8th of October.

As of now, details on the update remain somewhat light, with the primary confirmation being that Hell Is Us will receive a total of 10 new Hollow Walkers (enemies). This alone is a big deal however, especially given the fact that one of the game’s main drawbacks was a relative lack of enemy variety.

Alongside this, the team also revealed that Hell Is Us has surpassed a major milestone – officially reaching 1.5 million players. It is worth noting that Hell is Us was made available as part of Xbox Game Pass back in July and then PlayStation Plus just a few weeks ago.

Still, 1.5 million players for what is a rather unique and oppressive game is worthy of note. Hopefully the upcoming update manages to elevate Hell Is Us beyond its previous highs. We won’t have to wait long to find out.

Each month, Sony updates its PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium line-ups with new and (sometimes) returning games. For the month of August, the console maker is offering a strong selection of notable titles, including the first-party hit Helldivers 2 and the award-winning Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

Taking to the PlayStation Blog to make their announcement, Sony officially detailed the full line-up of titles set to join PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium over the coming weeks. Beginning a couple months ago, the console maker announced that it would start releasing its PS Plus line-up in the UK and US via a staggered manner.

So, while most of the world will get the full suite of games on the 18th (with one exception), UK subscribers can look forward to the following:

18th August:

• Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
• Vampire Survivors
• Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire (PS Plus Premium)
• Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (PS Plus Premium)

• Dying Light 2

While there is plenty of variety with August’s offerings, some titles in particular do stand out. Helldivers 2 is of course the highly-successful co-op shooter from Arrowhead Game Studios. Released back in 2024, the game has gone on to sell over 20 million copies.

Though sentiment has ebbed and flowed over the years (especially when it comes to hardcore fans), Helldivers 2 remains a fun and unique multiplayer experience. Given that it is published by PlayStation, hopefully the game will remain on the service in perpetuity.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II meanwhile is a highly-regarded CRPG from Warhorse Studios. Released just last year, the game has been lauded for its RPG mechanics; its grounded sense of reality and deliberate gameplay.

All-in-all, August appears to be one of the strongest months for PlayStation Plus Extra in quite some time. Hopefully Sony can keep it up.

Helldivers 2 landing on Game Catalog today, complete with the Devoid of Liberty update, would’ve been enough to call August a good month for PS Plus. Sony’s gone and added seven more games on top of it.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Headlines the New Additions

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the other name doing the heavy lifting here, and it’s arguably the bigger deal of the two. A sprawling, mechanically dense RPG landing on a subscription service less than two years after release isn’t something Sony does often.

Microsoft has revealed the next wave of titles for Xbox Game Pass. For starters, Hell is Us is joining the service this week after a year on the market, offering a very non-linear post-apocalyptic adventure that will test your wits and combat skill. The big headliner though is of course Halo: Campaign Evolved, a complete remake of the original Halo campaign with some added content.

Halo: Campaign Evolved marks a major change for the series, being the first to run completely on Unreal Engine 5. Graphically, the game looks great, but we will have to play it for ourselves to see if the classic feel of the Halo shooters translates over well in the new engine.

Here is the full list of titles joining Game Pass over the next couple of weeks along with supported platforms and dates:

Officially released late last year, Hell is Us is a 3rd-person melee focused action-adventure title which arrived to high praise, marking it as one of publisher Nacon’s best-rated games of all time. While Nacon itself is currently going through some issues, the publisher has officially revealed that Hell is Us will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

During the recent Nacon Connect livestream, the game publisher officially announced that Rogue Factor’s much-loved Hell is Us will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 on the 24th of September – a little over one year from its home console / PC release.

For the uninitiated, Hell is Us is an atmospheric 3rd-person melee focused title which puts a great deal of emphasis on exploration and puzzle solving. Upon its release, the title was met with consistent and high praise from both critics and players alike (sitting at a review score of ‘Very Positive’ on Steam.)

While details on the port remain light so far, the trailer itself showed off 60fps gameplay, suggesting that the Switch 2 release will be relatively on par with its other versions.

For context, Hell is Us on PS5 includes both Quality and Performance modes targeting 30 and 60fps respectively (the latter of which uses FSR2 to upscale to 4K). While not yet confirmed, it is likely that the Switch 2 release will similarly offer two graphics options; possibly using the Switch’s bespoke DLSS for added clarity.

Regardless, Hell is Us is a unique experience worth giving a go. Hopefully all of the game’s atmospheric effects are kept in place. We will have to wait and see.

Nacon is perhaps the biggest video game publisher in France outside of Ubisoft, with the company responsible for many well-liked titles including Hell is Us; Greedfall; RoboCop: Rogue City and many more. In a surprise announcement, the publisher/holding company has now confirmed that four of its subsidiaries have filed for insolvency – including the studio behind the aforementioned Greedfall.

Publishing a press release to make the announcement, Nacon officially confirmed that “four of its subsidiaries, namely the video game development studios Spiders, Kylotonn, Cyanide, and the motion capture company Nacon Tech, have today filed for insolvency with the Lille Métropole Commercial Court and requested the opening of judicial reorganisation proceedings in their favour.”

As explained by the press release itself, judicial reorganisation proceedings are “collective proceedings under French law pursuant to which liabilities arising prior to the opening judgment are frozen for the duration of the observation period, which may last up to 18 months. During this period, the debtor may propose a continuation plan providing for the restructuring of its debt with a view to ensuring the recovery of its business.”

This follows on from last month’s report which revealed that Nacon as a whole was filing for insolvency, suggesting that things haven’t been going too well so far.

As mentioned, while far from the most prestigious publisher, Nacon has had a solid track record in recent years, with some of its more modern successes including Hell Is Us; the ‘Hunting Simulator’ series; STYX; Test Drive Unlimited; RoboCop: Rogue City and Greedfall. Hopefully the publisher is able to find a solution which keeps as much of the talent across these studios as possible in employment.
