“A Deliberate Process on Nacon’s Part”: French Union Calls for Boycott of Nacon and Spiders’ Games Following Studio Closure

1 May 2026 at 15:00

The image shows the logos of two companies: Nacon and Spiders.

Greedfall and Steelrising maker Spiders having to close its doors after its parent company Nacon reportedly failed to find a buyer for the studio can seem like just a really unfortunate breakdown for the French studios from an external view when looking at the last few months. But that's not the case, at least according to French union Syndicat des Travailleureuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV), who claim that the shutdown has less to do with the recent insolvency filings and more to do with alleged willful mismanagement. "Spiders' liquidation has been ordered on April 29. In a few weeks, the […]

Greedfall studio Spiders officially closing down

30 April 2026 at 14:00

Earlier this week, reports began circulating that RPG studio, Spiders, was set to close after falling into insolvency. Now, the company has confirmed exactly that.

Spiders, the studio behind cult RPGs like The Technomancer, Bound by Flame and Geedfall, is officially closing down. In a message shared via the studio's official X account, Spiders “no longer exists” and is being liquidated.

The planned DLC for Greedfall The Dying World will still release under publisher Nacon, but it is unclear who will be finishing it up now that Spiders is closing.

Spiders was one of several studios impacted by insolvency under Nacon. The studio had a chance to be saved with a boost in sales following Greedfall The Dying World leaving early access, but that unfortunately didn't happen.

Nacon’s Collapse Claims First Casualty as Greedfall Makers Spiders Shut Down, and its Other Insolvent Studios Could Be Next

29 April 2026 at 16:54

Three distinct gaming characters from Spiders Studio games are shown, with the text 'SPIDERS' superimposed across them.

Yesterday, we reported on a claim that Spiders, the studio behind the Greedfall series and Steelrising, would be shutting down "soon" after it filed for insolvency last month. The shutdown was allegedly a result of its parent company Nacon being unable to find a buyer for the studio after the insolvency filing. Today, Spiders finally spoke out via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, and while it didn't confirm anything about the failed sale, it did confirm that yes, "Spiders is being liquidated." The studio's statement began with an apology for the team's silence over the last couple of months, […]

Greedfall studio Spiders reportedly facing imminent closure

29 April 2026 at 13:45

Over the years, Spiders began to grow a reputation for its RPGs, which didn't quite hit AAA quality, but had cult appeal. Unfortunately, the studio may now be facing closure.

According to a report from Origami, Spiders has been unable to find a buyer after a number of Nacon-owned studios went insolvent. As a result, layoffs at the studio may begin soon as it winds down operations.

This would mean that while the Greedfall IP lives on paper, there will no longer be a team to work on it, so fans may never see a true Greedfall 2. Spiders did just bring Greedfall: The Dying World out of Early Access, but it is a prequel to the first game, and not as well received as the original. The game was also clearly not a sales hit, as Spiders is now facing imminent closure.

According to Insider Gaming, Spiders had been working on a project titled ‘Dark' in 2025 but it was cancelled in late 2025. It is also claimed that the studio had been pitching Greedfall 2.

KitGuru Says: This is a huge shame and rather unexpected given that Nacon was set to make a number of major game announcements just weeks ago before the financial situation came to light.

Greedfall studio Spiders is reportedly being shut down following insolvency

29 April 2026 at 11:00

2026 has been a bad year for Nacon, with the French video games publisher confirming last month that a number of its subsidiaries had filed for insolvency. While reports at the time claimed that they were hoping to sell off one of their studios (Spiders), it seems the team did not manage to secure a deal – with the nearly two-decade old studio reportedly set to shutter.

As reported by the publication Origami.ng (who have previously shared tons of details regarding the publisher's current status), Nacon subsidiary Spiders is set to be shut down “soon” following their inability to find “a buyer.”

For the uninitiated, Spiders is one of Nacon’s most well known studios, with the AA team having released a number of ambitious titles in its time, including-but-not-limited-to Greedfall; Steelrising; The Technomancer and more.

Spiders Nacon

The announcement of the studio’s closure is interesting to see, especially as the team only just recently released Greedfall: The Dying World. Initially launched in Early Access to a mixed reception, the game’s full arrival has been met with far more positivity.

Unfortunately, it seems as though Greedfall: The Dying World will mark the final game from Spiders. Hopefully some positives can come from this disappointing situation.

Greedfall Developer Spiders Will Reportedly Shut Down “Soon” as Nacon Seemingly Fails to Find a Buyer After Insolvency Filing

28 April 2026 at 15:12

A character in a fantasy setting stands on a ledge overlooking a grand, mystical city with towering spires and domes under a dramatic sky.

Greedfall developer Spiders will reportedly shut down "soon" after it filed for insolvency last month, as its parent company Nacon seemingly fails to find a buyer for the studio. After Nacon itself filed for insolvency due to financial issues with its major investor, it was reportedly looking to sell off two of its subsidiaries, Spiders and the motion capture studio, Nacon Tech. Now, according to a report from Origami, the publisher has been unable to find a buyer for Spiders, and the studio that has survived for nearly two decades after its founding in 2008 will have to close its […]

Nacon reportedly plan to sell off studio ‘Spiders’ following insolvency announcement

30 March 2026 at 14:00

Nacon is perhaps the biggest video game publisher in France outside of Ubisoft, with the company responsible for many well-liked titles including Hell is Us; Greedfall; RoboCop: Rogue City and many more. Despite this, the publisher is currently struggling, announcing earlier this year that they had filed for insolvency. In the wake of this, it appears as though at least one of Nacon’s studios might be saved, with Spiders – the team behind Greedfall and Steelrising – currently undergoing a bidding process.

Following the recent announcement that 4 of Nacon’s subsidiaries have filed for insolvency, French publication Origami revealed that one of the four (Spiders) could find a new home under a different publisher, claiming:

[Translated] “French publisher Nacon is looking to sell Spiders, a Paris-based studio it acquired in 2019,” adding that “Yesterday, a few days after multiple requests for judicial reorganization within the group, the parent company notified Spiders employees that a bidding process was imminent.”

Spiders Greedfall

Offering some additional context, they continued: “Spiders is, however, indeed working on a new pre-production project, which could be leveraged in the event of a potential sale, but the internal feeling is that Nacon has mostly kept people busy while the divorce was being finalized.”

As mentioned, of Nacon’s many subsidiaries, Spiders is perhaps the most well known, with the AA studio having released a number of ambitious titles in its time, including-but-not-limited-to Greedfall; Steelrising; The Technomancer and more.

Whether Spiders will be able to find a new parent company to operate under, we will have to wait and see; but here’s to hoping that all of Nacon’s studios are able to find new homes in the wake of these unfortunate circumstances.

Nacon is Looking to Sell Greedfall Developer Spiders and Motion Capture Studio Nacon Tech After Filing for Insolvency

27 March 2026 at 14:30

The image shows the 'SPIDERS' logo with stylized typography.

French publisher Nacon is looking to sell two of its subsidiary studios, Spiders, the team behind Greedfall and Steelrising, and motion capture studio Nacon Tech, according to a new report from Origami. The news comes just days after Spiders, along with other Nacon studios Cyanide and Kylotonn, were placed under receivership, and all three, along with Nacon Tech, filed for insolvency. All of this is the result of what happened at the end of February 2025, when Nacon itself filed for insolvency, after its majority shareholder, Bigben Interactive, saw its refinancing agreement it had reached in November 2025 fall through […]

Nacon announces that 4 of its subsidiaries have filed for insolvency

24 March 2026 at 10:15

Nacon is perhaps the biggest video game publisher in France outside of Ubisoft, with the company responsible for many well-liked titles including Hell is Us; Greedfall; RoboCop: Rogue City and many more. In a surprise announcement, the publisher/holding company has now confirmed that four of its subsidiaries have filed for insolvency – including the studio behind the aforementioned Greedfall.

Publishing a press release to make the announcement, Nacon officially confirmed that “four of its subsidiaries, namely the video game development studios Spiders, Kylotonn, Cyanide, and the motion capture company Nacon Tech, have today filed for insolvency with the Lille Métropole Commercial Court and requested the opening of judicial reorganisation proceedings in their favour.”

As explained by the press release itself, judicial reorganisation proceedings are “collective proceedings under French law pursuant to which liabilities arising prior to the opening judgment are frozen for the duration of the observation period, which may last up to 18 months. During this period, the debtor may propose a continuation plan providing for the restructuring of its debt with a view to ensuring the recovery of its business.”

Nacon Insolvency

This follows on from last month’s report which revealed that Nacon as a whole was filing for insolvency, suggesting that things haven’t been going too well so far.

As mentioned, while far from the most prestigious publisher, Nacon has had a solid track record in recent years, with some of its more modern successes including Hell Is Us; the ‘Hunting Simulator’ series; STYX; Test Drive Unlimited; RoboCop: Rogue City and Greedfall. Hopefully the publisher is able to find a solution which keeps as much of the talent across these studios as possible in employment.
