No Man’s Sky COSMOS update lets you build your own space stations and so much more

10 September 2026 at 09:00

In celebration of the game’s 10th anniversary, the team at Hello Games previously teased their next major update coming to No Man’s Sky. Dubbed ‘COSMOS’ the update has now officially gone live – letting you now build your own space stations; deep-space bases; join alliances and much more.

As has always been the case, the official unveiling of the latest update to No Man’s Sky arrived alongside its launch, letting players immediately get stuck into all that is new.

Unsurprisingly, the update is a meaty one, and includes far more patch notes than could be listed here. That said, some of the most notable changes / additions include the following:

  • You can now purchase, customise and expand your own space station
  • You can now join Galactic Alliances with other players to expand your influence
  • Deep-space outposts can now be discovered and explored
  • You can now build free-floating bases anywhere in space (as well as on natural rock platforms floating about)
  • New Colossal shipwrecks can be discovered in deep-space
  • 10 year anniversary Expedition celebrating the past decade of updates
  • Overhauled interactive Star System map
  • New rare resources to extract

Sky COSMOS

  • Updated rendering system for planetary terrain detail
  • Hundreds of new decorative station parts
  • Ice Fields
  • Biohazard Cleanup Operations
  • Enhanced particle lighting
  • Improved planetary cloud rendering from space
  • “Reinvented” space exploration with “outposts, abandoned freighters, asteroid belts, anomalies, and other points of interest spawning at re-visitable fixed locations.”
  • You can now travel to the sun in each system…at your own risk
  • Much more.

Based on the fact that it was teased in advance of its release, it was safe to assume that the COSMOS update would be a big one. Even so, Hello Games have once again managed to exceed all expectations.

KitGuru says: Will you be hopping into this update? Across all the new additions, what are you most looking forward to? How much do you think any other studio would charge for such an update? Let us know down below.

Hello Games Marks No Man’s Sky’s 10th Anniversary by Rebuilding Outer Space, a Decade After That Rocky Launch

9 September 2026 at 13:00

An astronaut and robotic characters are set against a colorful space backdrop in promotional art for 'No Man's Sky: Cosmos,' featuring planets, spaceships, and cosmic debris.

It's time for another big No Man's Sky update, version 7.0, titled COSMOS, which independent developer Hello Games had teased for the game's recent 10th anniversary. Managing Director Sean Murray claims that COSMOS delivers a comprehensive revamp of outer space, introducing player-owned space stations, orbital base building, player alliances, and deep-space salvaging. Players can now purchase, construct, and decorate space stations both inside and out, creating custom player clubhouses and social hubs. They may also establish player-driven alliances to construct networked empires of space stations, competing on global leaderboards for wealth, territory, and prominence. Modular, free-floating bases can be built […]

Sean Murray Breaks Light No Fire’s 2-Year Silence, Admitting the Radio Blackout Wasn’t the Original Plan and Confirming the Ambition

13 August 2026 at 10:00

A dragon with a rider flies over a lush, green landscape towards a large, spherical structure on a mountain in the game Light No Fire by Hello Games.

It's been nearly three years since Hello Games announced Light No Fire at The Game Awards 2023, and we famously didn't get any further trailers or real info. It's been so bad for fans that they have been happy just to read a brief mention of the project in Sean Murray's No Man's Sky 10th-anniversary letter. Thankfully, Murray did just talk a little more about Light No Fire in an interview with Kotaku. To begin with, he revealed that the original marketing plan didn't involve a long radio silence at all: I thought we would have chatted about it more […]

No Man’s Sky celebrates 10th anniversary; teasing free ‘COSMOS’ update

11 August 2026 at 12:30

10 years ago, on the 9th of August 2016, No Man’s Sky officially launched following tons of hype and anticipation. Unfortunately, the game would wind up failing to meet expectations – much of which was due to broken promises made by the team at Hello Games. A decade later however, No Man’s Sky has become far more than even the most creative fans could have hoped for, with 10 years of 100% free updates making for the ultimate redemption story. Celebrating this milestone, Hello Games have now released an anniversary trailer while teasing the game’s next big update.

Releasing a 10th anniversary trailer (alongside the publishing of a letter from studio Head Sean Murray), the team at Hello Games spoke on the journey which No Man’s Sky has travelled over the past decade, writing: “Hello! I feel surprisingly emotional today. Ten years ago, on 9th August 2016, travellers across the universe set foot on their first alien planet in No Man's Sky. Perhaps you were there ten years ago, or maybe you joined later.”

Murray continued, “For any game to reach its ten-year milestone is impressive and I think that is especially true for No Man's Sky. It's really a testament to the passion of the team here and of the players for the game, that this year we've seen our highest player numbers since launch, and won a TGA and BAFTA for best evolving game.”

Addressing some of the early controversies, Murray took time to make note of the sheer amount of free post-launch support which has been offered over the decade, writing: “With now 40 major updates, all free, we have expanded our sandbox universe with base-building, exocraft, settlements, mechs, pets, living ships, expeditions and rebuilt the universe several times over. Support for Switch, XBox, VR, PSVR, Switch 2, PS5, XBX and more has been added along the way. In fact No Man's Sky is supported on about as many platforms as there are team members!”

Speaking of team members, in a moment of bittersweetness, Murray revealed that unlike a majority of the industry, Hello Games have been able to avoid any major lay-offs, adding that “It became a bit of a meme at the time, me holding up the gold master disc of No Man's Sky but I'm proud to say that most of the people in that photo are still at Hello. The No Man's Sky team has evolved over that period of course, but it is not really that much bigger.”

The full letter can be found HERE, and goes deeper into Murray and Hello Games’ mentality and thought process as a whole. 10 years on however, and No Man’s Sky is not yet complete, with the team concluding by teasing their next major update: COSMOS – promising that “more will follow.”

KitGuru says: What do you think of No Man’s Sky 10 years on? Has it surpassed its original promise? What do you think this COSMOS update will entail? Let us know down below.

No Man’s Sky Hits 10 Years with Record Players, as Hello Games Teases ‘COSMOS’ Update and Light No Fire Next

10 August 2026 at 13:00

A promotional image for No Man's Sky's 10th Anniversary, showing a space explorer in a suit with various robots and spaceships, set against a colorful cosmic background with the text '10 No Man's Sky'.

Today, UK independent developer Hello Games celebrates the tenth anniversary of No Man's Sky, by far its biggest and most popular title. For the occasion, studio founder and managing director Sean Murray shared a lengthy letter with the community, reminiscing about everything that happened throughout this decade: 40 major (and free) updates, as well as ports to practically every noteworthy gaming platform except for mobile. Murray highlights that "tens of millions of players" have been in the game, spending hundreds of millions of hours exploring the nearly infinite universe (to this date, they've discovered less than 1% of the planets). No Man’s Sky Swarm update adds new enemies, space combat variety and more

28 May 2026 at 08:30

No Man’s Sky is the gift that won’t stop giving. Less than two months since the last major patch – which introduced a whole new Pokemon-inspired monster capturing / battling system – the team at Hello Games are back with yet another update. Officially available right now, the ‘Swarm’ Update brings new enemies, improved space combat and more.

Available to download right now, The Swarm Update is one of No Man’s Sky’s smaller releases. Even so, the update still brings in a ton of welcome and surprise additions, including but not limited to:

  • New competitive multiplayer Expedition
  • New Hive of Glass ‘monstrous’ alien starship
  • New Swarm enemy (found in space)
  • New unlockable customisation pieces
  • New land-based ‘planetary Swarmers’ enemy type
  • Direwasp Disintegrator multi-tool

The full list of changes and additions can be found HERE.

While this latest update is primarily focused on the multiplayer expedition, the Swarm update still features plenty of new and interesting mechanics; continuing to cement No Man’s Sky as perhaps the greatest supported game of all time – especially for free.

KitGuru says: What do you think of this latest update? Does the team-based expedition interest you? Is there anything left for Hello Games to add to No Man’s Sky? Let us know your thoughts down below.

No Man’s Sky’s New Hive of Glass Threat Could Destroy the Universe — and Players Must Stop It Together

27 May 2026 at 13:00

Spaceships in a starry sky with red lights and text reading 'No Man's Sky The Swarm'.

Today, Hello Games has released the new No Man's Sky THE SWARM update. The independent British developer said this is much larger than the previous patch, XENO ARENA (which introduced Pokémon-style pet battles). THE SWARM introduces an ominous new enemy, the Hive of Glass, which Hello Games labeled as an existential threat to the entire universe. Upon launching No Man's Sky after the patch, all players will be required to complete a personality test that will split them into three factions, which must cooperate, strategize, and compete to face the Hive of Glass. To figure out what's happening, there will […]

No Man’s Sky XENO ARENA Update Goes Full Pokémon Style: Ranks, Leagues and More

8 April 2026 at 13:00

A colorful scene from No Man's Sky shows two alien creatures facing off in a 'Xeno Arena.'

Not even two months after the previous 'Remnant' patch, Hello Games is back with another massive No Man's Sky update titled XENO ARENA. This time, the independent UK developer is introducing a full-fledged Pokémon-style battling system. Wildlife that has populated No Man's Sky planets for a decade now has a direct gameplay purpose: you can catch creatures, raise them, and pit them against other players' creatures in competitive arena battles. Beyond the obvious Pokémon reference, Hello Games has also mentioned World of Warcraft's pet battling as an inspiration. Creatures found across the universe can be recruited into the player's squad, […]
