Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 this August

5 June 2026 at 11:00

From the initial announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2, it was clear that the console maker was hoping to turn the sequel system into far more than just an exclusives machine, confirming a plethora of major 3rd party titles being in development for the company’s handheld-hybrid. That said, one of its biggest offerings – Elden Ring – went AWOL following its less-than-stellar pre-release performance reports. Finally, it seems FromSoftware and co. have managed to optimise the experience, officially announcing that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is arriving on Switch 2 this August.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition was first announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 back during the console’s official unveiling. Since then, those who got to try the game out early during Gamescom last year reported poor performance, with noticeable frame rate drops reaching as low as sub-20 FPS.

Following this, FromSoftware made the official announcement that Elden Ring had been delayed on Switch 2 until some time in 2026.

Half way into the year and we have finally gotten an update, with the team confirming that Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will be arriving on Switch 2 in just a couple months: on the 28th of August.

Elden Ring Tarnished

For the uninitiated, the Tarnished Edition serves as the complete version of Elden Ring, including the base game, its Shadow of the ErdTree DLC; 4 new armour sets; 2 new classes; and a few cosmetics for β€˜Torrent the spectral steed’.

Those who own the game on another platform will be able to pick up the β€˜Tarnished Pack’ as a separate purchase on the same day at its Switch 2 launch for 550 yen (roughly Β£2.50, though we will have to wait for official UK prices).

Either way, while it may have taken far longer than expected, Elden Ring is finally almost ready to be experienced on Nintendo Switch 2. Hopefully performance is solid.

KitGuru says: Have you been waiting for the Switch 2 version? Is a 30fps experience good enough for you? Should the DLC be given away for free? Let us know your thoughts down below.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will finally arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this summer on August 28, 2026, developer FromSoftware confirmed today. The release date reveal is welcome news for Switch 2 players who've been waiting for Elden Ring's arrival since the Switch 2 was revealed and the open-world epic was one of the biggest third-party titles set to arrive on the handheld platform. Though the plan was to initially bring Elden Ring to Switch 2 at some point in 2025, concerns for what that version would look and run like were apparent from the earliest Switch 2 previews […]

Days after a Canadian retailer seemingly spilled the beans on Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition's release date on the Nintendo Switch 2, developer FromSoftware's parent company, Kadokawa, published its earnings results for its 2025 fiscal year that ended this past March 31. Though Kadokawa didn't spill the beans on an official release date, it did reaffirm that both the Tarnished Edition, and The Duskbloods are due to arrive at some point this year. Though both games have been slated to arrive at some point in 2026 for some time, it's encouraging to see Kadokawa reiterate that release window once again. Particularly […]

New Previews for Elden Ring on Nintendo Switch 2 Show a Much-Improved Frame Rate, Still No Release Date

12 March 2026 at 16:06

A promotional image for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition shows a warrior kneeling with a sword in a dark, mystical landscape under a glowing symbol.

Back when Nintendo first announced the Nintendo Switch 2, a slew of major third-party games that would've never been able to run on the original Nintendo Switch were immediately confirmed to be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring were among those titles, but while Cyberpunk 2077 has made it to the Switch 2, nearly a year later, Switch 2 players are still waiting to start their journeys in the Lands Between. Technically, Switch 2 players should've already had their hands on Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, the Switch 2 variant for FromSoftware's biggest success […]
