Sucker Punch Productions found a strong formula with the release of 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, updating the title with new, free content and eventually a paid expansion. Following in its footsteps, the team have now announced that 2025’s Ghost of Yotei will be getting its own dedicated expansion – with ‘Echoes of Sekigahara’ arriving in just a few weeks’ time.

Making the surprise announcement via the PlayStation Blog, Sucker Punch officially unveiled Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara. This new ‘narrative expansion’ will be split between the ‘present day’ and “flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland.”

Similar to Tsushima’s Iki Island expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara will delve deeper into Atsu’s past while adding variety in the form of the aforementioned split time periods. Of course, the expansion will introduce a new region to explore with additional heavy weapons; armor sets; dyes “and more.”

Rounding out the package this time round, the expansion will also include a new rogue-like survival mode. Called Ghost of Yōtei: Most Wanted, this single-player offering will have you ”accept bounties in order to start new runs, where taking down enemies will earn you perks, as well as unlock additional characters to play as.”

The Echoes of Sekigahara expansion will officially release on the 1st of October, costing owners of the base game a relatively modest sum of $14.99.

Alongside this expansion, Yotei will also receive a free update at the same time – bringing some nifty extras such as the Beauty of Yōtei (screensaver) mode; armour transmog and some additional accessibility options.

Just as was the case with Tsuhsima, Ghost of Yotei offered a compelling package right from launch, and so this Echoes of Sekigahara expansion is merely a massive cherry on top.
