Quake: Dawn of the Machine announced for PC and consoles

7 August 2026 at 14:00

Following recent rumours, MachineGames has officially announced their latest Quake project. The studio had previously brought new levels to Quake 2. This time around, they've gone back to add new levels to the original Quake.

Quake: Dawn of the Machine was announced during QuakeCon this week. This new episode brings 19 new levels to the game, along with new sountrack music, a new deathmatch map and a bunch of new secrets to find.

Dawn of the Machine will be made available as a free update for current digital versions of Quake found on Steam, Xbox / Windows Store, Nintendo Switch, and PS4 / PS5.

Quake was named as one of the new pillar franchises for Bethesda after a restructuring effort across Xbox. Quake was named alongside the likes of Doom, Wolfenstein, The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

Zenimax is NOT turning into a Fallout and Elder Scrolls factory, according to insiders

7 July 2026 at 12:00

After weeks of leaks, rumours and speculation, Microsoft finally officially announced that they will be making some big sweeping changes at Xbox, with the likes of Compulsion Games and Double Fine going independent – as other studios are set to be sold off. While previous claims suggested that Microsoft’s Zenimax would be shaken up heavily with a refocus on the likes of Fallout and Elder Scrolls, insiders have now revealed that the company will continue to support Zenimax’s other franchises, including Wolfenstein, Quake and DOOM.

Following the recent memo from Microsoft – in which they revealed that over 3000 Xbox employees will be let go, with up-to 5 studios parting ways with the company – known industry insider Jason Schreier took to social media to offer some clarity on how this is affecting Zenimax Media, writing:

“ZeniMax will be impacted significantly by the reorganization but will NOT be reduced to only Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, despite rumors over the last few weeks. The publisher will also still work on Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake.”

Zenimax Fallout

For the uninitiated, Zenimax Media is the parent company of Bethesda Game Studios; Arkane; id Software; Machine Games and Zenimax Online Studios, being responsible for franchises including the aforementioned DOOM; Quake; Elder Scrolls; Fallout and Wolfenstein. They also previously owned Tango Gameworks – though the studio was ultimately shut down by Microsoft following the acquisition (but was luckily saved by Krafton).

Given the popularity of Fallout and Elder Scrolls, it makes sense that Microsoft would want to fast-track the release of new entries in both series (especially given that Skyrim released 15 years ago at this point).

That said, Zenimax is home to many iconic and classic video game franchises, and so it is welcome to see that the likes of DOOM, Wolfenstein and Quake aren't going away any time soon…hopefully.

Bethesda Pivots to a Franchise-First Model as Xbox Cuts 3,200 Jobs, Betting Everything on The Elder Scrolls and Fallout

6 July 2026 at 15:42

A collage featuring a character from the game 'Doom Eternal' in a fiery landscape, a warrior from 'Skyrim' in a dark, smoky setting, and the Vault Boy mascot from the 'Fallout' series giving a thumbs-up.

After weeks of rumors and speculation, Xbox has confirmed today that it is cutting 3,200 jobs, with some of its first-party studios under the Microsoft umbrella either getting sold or returning to independence. In the accompanying note from Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, there is no mention of anything specific regarding ZeniMax Media, Bethesda's parent company, but according to reliable journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, the creator of The Elder Scrolls series is being affected by this restructuring to focus on its key franchises. "ZeniMax, as I mentioned, is going to be impacted pretty significantly. They're going to be restructured to a franchise first model. […]
