Kojima Still Makes Games the Metal Gear Way, Prioritizing Impact Over Fun, and Troy Baker Calls That Miraculous

17 April 2026 at 10:31

Two characters, Raiden and Solid Snake, aiming weapons in Hideo Kojima's 'Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.'

Although Hideo Kojima's games, such as the Death Stranding series, can be divisive, anyone who has experienced them cannot deny that the legendary game designer's approach is unique. According to actor Troy Baker, who plays Higgs in the series, this stems from a vision that prioritizes making the player "walk away impacted than entertained," a philosophy that allows him to "swing big" in a way that feels miraculous. "I think that there's a lot of people that are making games – and I don't blame them – that, right now, are trying to razzle dazzle the player the entire way […]

Metal Gear Solid film finally gains traction following two decades of attempts

10 April 2026 at 09:00

Since as far back as 2006 there have been talks surrounding adapting Hideo Kojima’s iconic Metal Gear Solid franchise into film. In the two decades since, the project has suffered a ton of various setbacks, with the most recent claims coming in 2022 in which it was revealed that the project was stuck in limbo. It appears as though the MGS film is finally set to become a reality; albeit starting from scratch.

In an exclusive piece by the TheHollywoodReporter, the publication officially revealed that Sony Pictures have struck a deal with directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein to adapt the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid film.

Set to be released under Sony’s Columbia Pictures (and produced by the somewhat controversial Avi Arad), Lipovsky and Stein spoke on this latest announcement, stating:

β€œMetal Gear Solid was nothing short of a groundbreaking cinematic masterpiece that forever revolutionized video games. We are thrilled and honored to bring Hideo Kojima’s iconic characters and unforgettable world to life.”

Metal Gear Solid Film

For the uninitiated, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein are perhaps best known for their work on the 2025 horror title Final Destination: Bloodlines – the first new entry in almost 15 years. Amassing a total of $317 million off of a $50 million budget, the pair have proven their chops.

As mentioned, the history of the Metal Gear Solid film can be traced all the way back to 2006 when it was first announced. Since then the project was cancelled, uncancelled and had half a dozen directors and actors interested in being involved.

After more than a decade of flux, the producers had settled on a writer (Jay Basu), director (Vogt-Roberts) and main lead (Oscar Isaac) – though this too has since been undone.

Given just how long Konami have been trying to bring Metal Gear Solid to the big screen, hopefully Lipovsky and Stein are finally the duo able to get the project past the finish line. It will be interesting to see who they decide to cast as the iconic Solid Snake.

A new report from The Hollywood Reporter reveals that a Metal Gear Solid movie is in development, with Final Destination duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein behind it. The film is part of a new set of movies Lipovsky and Stein will be making for Sony, as the pair have just been signed to Sony Pictures. Details on the film are still entirely unclear, though the promotional image from Columbia Pictures suggest that it'll be an adaptation of the first Metal Gear Solid game, though it's realistically all still up in the air at the moment. "Metal Gear SolidΒ was […]
