Nexon ‘Reassigns’ The First Berserker: Khazan Team After it Failed to Meet Commercial Expectations

8 April 2026 at 14:24

An armored character with long blond hair and a fur cape in the game The First Berserker: Khazan.

Neople's new Soulslike from last year, The First Berserker: Khazan, starring Ben Starr of Final Fantasy XVI and Balatro fame and set within the world of Dungeon and Fighter was one of the more loved and arguably better Soulslikes to come out in recent years. Our own Francesco De Meo really enjoyed his time with it, giving it a 9/10 in his review, and he wasn't alone in his praise. But despite its quality, its publisher Nexon has decided to "reassign" the development team and any hopes of a follow-up are seemingly out the window after the game missed Nexon's […]

Nexon Says Its AI Approach “Doesn’t Replace Creative People, it Frees Them to Create,” While Boasting It’ll Make Games With Fewer People

2 April 2026 at 17:47

A character stands on an alien planet with large metallic rings in a desert landscape during sunset, from the game ARC Raiders.

Nexon, the parent company behind Embark Studios and its massive PvPvE extraction shooter hit ARC Raiders has long been a supporter of AI and Generative AI (GenAI) entering the game development workflow. It was Nexon's CEO, Junghun Lee, who last year said that players should assume all game makers are using GenAI, which got a rousing rejection from several game developers at the time. So it's no surprise that in the company's latest Capital Markets Briefing, Lee and the company's recently appointed executive chairman (and head of Embark Studios), Patrick Söderlund, both boasted about how Nexon's approach to AI and […]

“Strong Launch, No Staying Power”: Nexon Believes The First Descendent Ultimately Did Not Work

2 April 2026 at 15:03

A character in a sci-fi suit with mechanical arms is manipulating spherical drones in a digital environment.

Nexon has published its capital markets briefing it presented to investors just days ago on March 31, 2026, containing a litany of thoughts and insights into the publisher, where it has seen success over the last year, and where it has stumbled. Those stumbles, according to president and chief executive officer Junghun Lee, include the company's third-person UE5-powered looter-shooter, The First Descendent, which Lee is very candid about in his thoughts on how the game is performing nearly two years after its launch. Speaking after Patrick Söderlund, the newly appointed executive chairman at Nexon, a new role that was created […]

Nexon says The First Descendant has ‘retention issues’

2 April 2026 at 14:00

During a recent financial presentation, Nexon President, Junghun Lee, commented on the recent successes and failures with its online games over the past year. Interestingly, The First Descendant was named as a struggling title, despite its initially strong launch.

Lee was commenting on Nexon's ability to “sustain relationships with players”. When assessing titles that didn't hit the mark, The First Descendant and Dungeon&Fighter Mobile were listed as games with retention challenges, going as far as to say that The First Descendant had “no staying power” after its strong launch.

While these titles struggled, Lee also listed a number of significant wins for Nexon. For starters, the MapleStory franchise has achieved 43% year-on-year growth, and the Dungeon&Fighter PC game has also been a hit in China and Korea.

As you would expect, Arc Raiders is also listed amongst the publisher's biggest achievements, enabling Nexon to become a more “globally competitive” company.
