Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition Finally Nails the Upgrade Where Chronicles X and Definitive Edition Stumbled

5 August 2026 at 12:30

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition

Xenoblade fans are being kept busy this year, as every entry in the Xenoblade Chronicles series will have received a Nintendo Switch 2 update by the time 2026 is through. Sadly, some of these updates have left something to be desired: the Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles X was the victim of janky AI upscaling that turned some textures into Van Gogh paintings, and the updated Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition was beset by some nagging performance issues. Understandably, some fans have been a bit concerned about how the Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 might turn out. Does […]

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is Transformative, Yet The Real Upgrade Isn’t Visual

31 July 2026 at 11:26

Two characters in 'Xenoblade Chronicles 2' engage in a dynamic combat scene with swords clashing.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is rightly considered as one of the most impressive Nintendo Switch games ever released, even with the technical limitations Monolith Soft had to contend with, which resulted in poor image quality, especially in handheld mode, and 30 FPS gameplay which often fell below the target in the most intense combat encounters making it ripe for a proper upgrade. With the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, these issues are mostly addressed, and some significant quality-of-life improvements make this edition of the game a must purchase for both returning players and newcomers. As highlighted in the comparison […]

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 gets much needed Switch 2 upgrade

30 July 2026 at 15:30

Earlier this summer, Nintendo finally announced plans to roll out Switch 2 editions for the Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy. These titles had severely diminished graphics on the original Switch hardware, but the new upgrades bring updated textures, 4K resolution and support for 60FPS.Β

The Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition already rolled out in June. However, Xenoblade 1 was the best-looking of the three games on Switch 1 already. Now, the upgrade is coming to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which ran at sub-480p resolution at times on the original Switch, so this is likely to be the most noticeable and impressive upgrade of the bunch to many fans.

As part of the update, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and its expansion will both get upgraded graphics, including 1080p/60FPS gameplay in handheld mode, and 4K/60FPS while the Switch 2 is docked. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is also getting new equipment designs, a new rare Blade, a new blade quest and new challenge battles as part of the update.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will also get its Switch 2 upgrade this year, but not until December, so fans have plenty of time to finish up Xenoblade Chronicles 2 first.

KitGuru Says: As much as I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles 2 when it launched, it was one of the ugliest titles on the Switch, with very blurry visuals and lots of aliasing. This upgrade will bring a much-needed visual overhaul to the game for Switch 2 owners.Β

The Nintendo Switch 2 is cementing its status as the system to get to enjoy the best JRPGs. During today’s Nintendo Direct, developer Monolith Soft confirmed not only that the entire Xenoblade Chronicles trilogy is making the jump to the new hardware with significant enhancements, but also unveiled a brand-new entry in the series arriving in 2027. Xenoblade Genesis Marks a New Beginning The next major project from Monolith Soft is titled Xenoblade Genesis.
