Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse Drags Toward 2028 as Backup MOBA Collapses and NetEase Looks for the Exit

1 June 2026 at 19:00

Two characters wield lightsabers in front of a snowy crowd with the 'Star Wars: Eclipse' logo above.

The road to launch for Star Wars: Eclipse is still very much uphill, according to new rumors. Speaking on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast (Ep. 64), Mike Straw mentioned that the game is still in development hell, and French developer Quantic Dream may soon be sold by NetEase. Mike Straw: I can tell you one game not to expect. Star Wars Eclipse. I wouldn't expect to see that at all. It is in development hell. Yeah, it ain't going well. NetEase, they want to divest from Quantic Dream. I'm not going to be surprised if Quantic Dream was sold by […]

Quantic Dream’s Spellcasters Chronicles is No More, Claims Star Wars: Eclipse is “Not Affected” as it Suffers “Internal Reorganization”

20 May 2026 at 16:18

Six colorful, animated characters in dynamic poses are featured with the title 'Spellcasters Chronicles' prominently displayed below them.

Quantic Dream joins the seemingly ever-growing list of traditionally single-player focused studios to have a failed multiplayer title. The studio announced today that it is halting development of Spellcasters Chronicles, its free-to-play 3v3, PvPvE hero-based MOBA that launched in early access earlier this year. It's an unfortunate end, of course, for the team at Quantic Dream who truly believed in what they were making with Spellcasters Chronicles, but its shuttering is about as surprising as the sun rising. Particularly when you consider that it never captured the attention of more than 900 players at one time on Steam since it […]

Quantic Dream cancels live service game ‘Spellcasters Chronicles’

20 May 2026 at 15:30

After a spree of playtests and an early access launch, Quantic Dream has cancelled development of its first ‘live service' multiplayer game, Spellcasters Chronicles. The game failed to grab a large enough audience during its first few months in early access.

In an announcement today, Quantic Dream confirmed that it is ending development on Spellcasters Chronicles, saying: “Today, Quantic Dream is announcing the discontinuation of the development of Spellcaster Chronicles.”

While Quantic Dream maintains that the game was a “bold, original multiplayer experience”, the studio acknowledges that it was unable to compete in “today's particularly challenging market environment”.

Spellcasters Chronicles will remain online until the 19th of June, at which point the servers will go offline. During its time, Spellcasters Chronicles peaked at just under 900 concurrent players. Those who did pay money into the game will be eligible for refunds.

Quantic Dream states that this cancellation will not impact the ongoing development of Star Wars Eclipse, its next single-player game.

KitGuru Says: Quantic Dream has a fan base, but clearly Spellcasters Chronicles wasn't the type of game those fans wanted to see from the studio.

Quantic Dream’s first multiplayer game ‘Spellcasters Chronicles’ launches in Early Access

26 February 2026 at 15:45

The most unlikely Quantic Dream game to date has arrived. Spellcasters Chronicles is the studio's first foray into multiplayer PvP gaming. The game is now available through the Steam Early Access programme, with a roadmap of updates planned out for the months ahead.

Early Access marks the start of an open “Workshop” phase, where players are invited to help shape balance, progression and long‑term features. Unlike previous closed betas focused on stability, this stage shifts toward refining mechanics, iterating on systems and testing new ideas based on community feedback. Quantic Dream says player input will directly influence priorities and future content throughout development.

Alongside the launch, the studio has outlined its Early Access roadmap, which will roll out features such as voice chat, expanded customisation, a reworked ranked mode, spell‑unlock progression, daily quests and shop updates. Early glimpses of upcoming content include a new arena, Kamazad, and a new Spellcaster class, the Technomancer, with more details to follow. The roadmap will remain flexible as the team adapts to player feedback.

Early Access adds several new systems and pieces of content, including a final tutorial, co‑op vs CPU mode, voice chat, Discord integration, a spell‑unlock system and an in‑game shop. New spells (Ice Ray, Poison Breath, Metamorphosis, Holy Arrow), two summons (Siren, Rhino Rider) and a new building (Rocket Soldier Factory) expand deck‑building options.
