After years of excitement, anticipation – and some skepticism – the long awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was unceremoniously cancelled by Ubisoft. Fortunately, the 2003 original is still available and better than ever on PC thanks to its addition to GOG’s game preservation program.

Since its creation in late 2024, GOG’s game preservation program has brought back many classics to life, introducing technical improvements to allow for compatibility long into the future.

Following the announcement back in January that Ubisoft’s long-developed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was being officially cancelled, GOG informed fans that it would be bringing “the original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time into the GOG Preservation Program as fast as we can!”

While it took some time, The Sands of Time can now be purchased through GOG. Available on sale for just £2.59 (70% off), some of the improvements made for modern hardware include:

• The addition of native widescreen and ultrawide support for all modern resolutions and aspect ratios
• New camera scaling that automatically adjusts the field of view (FOV) based on monitor aspect ratio
• Added an FPS limiter
• New lightweight, real-time in-game overlay for further adjustments
• Implemented a lightweight wrapper to resolve modern hardware incompatibilities

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time joins a list of more than 300 titles which are now part of the GOG Preservation Program, with some of the other most recent additions including POSTAL; Trials of Mana; Metro 2033 and Thief Gold.

This month’s free‑to‑claim games for Amazon Prime subscribers have been revealed, headlined by Steelrising. The August lineup includes a mix of action titles, indie releases and narrative adventures, all available to claim across GOG, the Epic Games Store and the Amazon Games App.

Steelrising is the standout addition this month. Set during an alternate version of the French Revolution, players take on the role of Aegis, an automaton bodyguard fighting against King Louis XVI’s mechanical army in a challenging action‑RPG. The game features precise combat built around dodges, parries and stamina management, with large automaton bosses demanding patience and skill. Another notable title is Airship: Kingdoms Adrift, a tactical airship‑combat RPG in which players build fleets, manage crews and engage in strategic battles across a diesel‑fantasy world.

Amazon has announced it is ending support for third-party integrations on its Luna cloud gaming service. Effective immediately, users can no longer purchase Ubisoft+ or Jackbox Games subscriptions via the platform. The “Bring Your Own Library” feature, which allows access to titles from EA, GOG, and Ubisoft storefronts, will also be discontinued on June 3rd.

Amazon will automatically cancel active subscriptions purchased through Luna at the end of the next billing cycle. Users who maintain a Ubisoft+ subscription directly through Ubisoft can continue to access the service via Luna until June 10th. Standalone games purchased through Ubisoft's platform also remain playable until June 10th.

Amazon confirmed it is not offering refunds for software purchases. However, users will retain access to these titles through their respective third-party accounts, such as the EA App, GOG Galaxy, or Ubisoft Connect. The company stated in an email to users that it is refocusing on a wider range of gaming experiences, including the GameNight party game format.
