Ubisoft leaker shares new details on Far Cry 7

8 July 2026 at 11:00

Far Cry 7 looks set to be a big deal for Ubisoft, with the open-world FPS series serving as one of the publisher’s core franchises. This is even more so the case when considering the fact that we’ve not had a new entry since 2021 – marking by far the longest time in between releases. Officially, we still do not know what’s in store, but according to one insider Far Cry 7 might be taking inspiration from extraction shooters.

For years now, we have been hearing various leaks and rumours surrounding Far Cry, with the primary consensus being that Ubisoft is working on two games right now: Far Cry 7 (known as project Blackbird) and a multiplayer extraction shooter spin-off (project Maverick).

As reported by Ubisoft leaker RogueTX however, Far Cry 7 might also be impacted by the extraction shooter craze, claiming that Far Cry 7 will feature a β€œHigh-stakes PvEvP scavenge and extract survival loop.”

Alongside this revelation, other ancillary details include:

  • Previously-reported time-limit mechanic is still present
  • You will have to rescue up to 6 family members throughout the story
  • There will be a safehouse of sorts
  • Weapon durability will be a core mechanic
  • Featured fauna include grizzly bears, wolves, foxes and deers

As mentioned, Ubisoft is already said to be working on a multiplayer-focused extraction shooter based on Far Cry, and so the need to include similar elements and even PvP into the narrative-focused Far Cry 7 makes little sense.

Either way, it is safe to say that Ubisoft seems to be taking things back to the drawing board when it comes to Far Cry 7. It will be interesting to see how different the project winds up being.

Ubisoft leaker Rogue has shared updated information about two highly anticipated games, the Splinter Cell remake and Far Cry 7. According to Rogue, Ubisoft is still trying to ship a linear, mission-based stealth remake built in Snowdrop, with a strong emphasis on non-lethal play, visibility systems, destructible environments, and classic Splinter Cell-style traversal and gadgets like sticky cameras, gas grenades, pipe sliding, and ziplines. That all sounds very promising to fans of the original, and indeed, it looks like Ubisoft is trying to preserve the series' identity rather than turn it into an open world reboot. The project appears to […]
